International ICS release discussion

Forgot to ask, is ICS now available for uk Xooms - many seem to be getting it but I just wanted to be sure that uk devices were being updated too!

Hi there, I live in the Uk but i bought my Wifi-Xoom while in abroad in New Zealand but ordered it online from company in Hong kong. When the hell will I get ICS? Please can someone help me out I really want ICS!!!!! :'(

Rang Motorola Australia and they have comfirmed that the xoom's in australia will be getting the ICS update. Only problem is that they do not know when it is going to be released as they have only just started work on it. [ yes the aussie ones are different to the yank ones, software that is. ] Now i'm going to have to do some work on finding out when my Galaxy Note is going to get it's update. Cheers to all the Aussies that use these forums.

Glad to know that! We are waiting for that eternity.
Motorola is known to ignore the non_US clients and let's see what they will do this time.
I imagine it won't need much writing up in the way of coding for aussie counterparts.
I hope this time they will show some respect to non-US beings.

I've been Googling ICS release in the UK for the Wi-Fi Xoom, but can't find anything confirming it's release.

I understand it's rolling out in the US at the moment, but does anyone know about us over the pond in the UK, or Europe?

I'm not sure whether anyone will know for certain. For those of us with the WiFi Xoom from the States, IIRC, no one knew ICS was coming until the first users got it and started reporting it. Likewise, I'm guessing it's just a waiting game.

Yes, there is! However, before I go to explain how I did it, please beware that you will void your device warranty as you will have to unlock the bootloader in the process. That's the scary part out of the way, although one final caveat, you may also "brick" your device.

I had a pretty smooth experience unlocking and flashing the US HWI69 Retail ROM (V 3.01) onto my UK Xoom. The steps I took were pretty well explained by others whose instructions I found by simple googling the subject. Here is hwat I did:

1. Download and install the Android SDK Starter Package on you PC/MAC from here Android 4.0 Platform Highlights | Android Developers, run the SDK and update any packages the program will identify as updatable.
2. Download the US HWI69 Retail ROM from here MOTODEV > Products > Device Software - if asked to sign into your developer account simply create one and reply to Moto's verification email. After that you can download the package.
3. Unlock your Xoom bootloader first (again, this will invalidate your warranty!!!) and then begin the process of flashing the US stock ROM onto your Xoom. The simplest instructions I found were these here The technology preview
4. When you have flashed the US ROM then just setup your device as per ususal and establish your WiFi connection. If you don't get a notification for the first update then go to system settings > about tablet > system updates. This will find the initial update and ask you to confirm to install. You'll need to do this process 4 or 5 times after which you'll end up with ICS 4.0.3 on your Xoom.
5. One final thing, you'll have US regional settings only so you need to change your input and keyboard settings to incorporate "UK" settings. Foir this tpo work properly simply go to the market and download an app called morelocale2. You'll easily figure out the add UK settings. Voila - ICS goodness. P.S. if you want to go back to the original UK stock ROM for any reason then follow these procedures minus the bootloader unlock, and flash the H.6.2-24 For Retail Europe build back to your Xoom- you'll be able to obtain it from the same place as listed under item 2. You can also relockj the bootloader. This is not rooting the device.

Grateful for the quick response.

Whilst I accept what you say I have some difficulty in that in every single forum, including those hosted by Motorola, there is a Xoom owner bemoaning why they have not yet had the update. There is not a single person stating they have had the update!

Can you tell me when the OTA started and how it is being deployed? and when the forecast date is that is has reached all UK Xoom's?

I am really disappointed that the long promised Q2 update of the OS on the XOOM Wifi has not yet happened. I note that Android has since release a further version Jelly Bean and Motorola have stated the XOOM in the US will receive this soon, and will hence probably have the update before the UK gets the last one?

Why is the UK being treated so badly? Could Motorola please provide an update on when they will release the OTA update for the XOOM? Treatment like this simply means consumers will go to other manufacturers.

I updated my Xoom to Jelly bean.. However, you have to be using a rooted device to do this.. Jelly Bean(JRO03H) for Verizon Motorola XOOM 4G LTE (Rooted)

What you are showing here is not ICS but Jelly Bean aka 4.1.1 - ICS only goes to 4.0.4. Have you manually GEDifyed your XOOM?
