How to update Galaxy Ace firmware?

Hey guys I am new to this..

Where do I get the latest updates for my phone. My phone is NOT rooted, its factory reset and I want to update it. I got a minor update from 'Samsung Apps' icon for 'weather'.

My current phone info is:

Android 2.2.1, Baseband verion S5830XXKA6, Kernal version 2.6.32.9-perf root@SES601 #1, Build number FROYO.XWKA9.

Is this what you guys have? Also it says 'root' in my Kernal version, does that mean my phone was rooted at some stage??

Thanks,
kiwi

u need to connect ur phone to the pc and use kies (cd provided in box... but update that...) to check whether u ve an update as the version differs in different regions...

I downloaded latest kies from samsung site and installed it on windows xp.
when I connected my ace to pc through USB cable.... kies shown me there is an update available in firmware..... so I proceeded as per instructions...... after downloading completed it shows can not connect to your mobile & goes for emergency recovery....... that thing also can not complete with showing same error...... then I removed my mobile from USB & rebooted....... it was working fine as usual (Thanks god)...... But what could be the problem?

Android version 2.3.3
Baseband version S5830XWKPA
Kernel version 206035.7-perf-CL561786ROOT@dELL128#1

Are you from India? If yes then go ahead as Ace is sold here with 2.3.4, I have one & it runs fine. So go ahead & upgrade. :) The latest ver of KIES is 2.1.1.11124_17

Kies has been known to mess up phones due to some ram issue(not sure exactly what the problem is). Many users have reported that Kies crashed during upgrade.
It does not happen with everyone, so don't be too scared many have upgraded their phones successfully with kies.

Still if you are worried, you can always use Odin to flash new firmware. All the latest firmwares and flash guides are available at samfirmware.com. I always use Odin when i want to change my firmware. You don't have to be rooted for this.
Just read the instructions very carefully before you attempt this.

Happy Upgrading :D

Well i am from UK and nothing wrong with the phone at the moment but i only had phone for 6 weeks now so i am happy with it but i read that upgrade firmware is recommended. I am New and i probably going wait for few weeks before trying it.

I just don't get why we have to upgrade it surely mobile phone shop should ability to upgrade firmware as part their services?.

In India the service centers do the upgrade for free if you are in the warranty period even some of the big retailers do it for free, if you have bought it from them (The Mobile Store, Magnet etc) not sure what the rules of the game are elsewhere :D.
