Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Ducking my head in shame:eek::eek:. Guess I missed that:D. BB, I'd skip the DVD and go straight for Blu-Ray

Nothing to be ashamed of. Kinda hate the blue ray versions of 456 really shows the fakness in the movies. Like one scene in episode 6 when Han tells lando to take the falcon. If you look at the backdrop of the falcon and the b wing bomber. You can tell its a painting lol. So go out and get your bluray trilogy and prequel and enjoy.

Already got my ticket to see TPM this afternoon when the kid gets out of school :D

Good morning Gnexers! :)

(1): Second Google Wallet security vulnerability confirmed, affects all users | The Verge

Yet ANOTHER reason to have face unlock with a pattern or PIN unlock under that. AND Lookout: if the phone is lost or stolen, I can lock that puppy down and render it unusable. Google Wallet is COOL, despite the security issues.

(2): I have found that a Blu-Ray player adequately upconverts a DVD to near Blu-Ray imagery, without the changes Uncle George made to the Blu-Ray versions.

As far as Star Wars 3D: how on earth did they convert a 2D movie to 3D successfully? I mean, my 3DTV can adequately simulate 3D from a 2D source by separating the images. Is that all they did? Or did Uncle George actually go back and redo all the special effects?

I guess we'll find out tomorrow...

I wish the God known as Lucas would of left 4 5 6 alone and just fix what needed to be fixed. THat was Vaders lightsaber was white when he walks towards the blast doors after killing Ben and fix bens lightsaber during the fight between him and vader. Plus the cord coming out his sleeve. Other than that the movies was perfect.

How did he make them in to 3D? Because he is god lol. I will let yall know how good or bad the 3D was tonight after I go see it at 16:10 EST.

BB, I'm sure you have been asked a thousand times, so forgive this question: didn't it HURT when you got pierced? Agonizing and continuing pain? Was it a gun like for ear lobes, or a hammer and awl? Ohhhh, I can't even imagine....

Why isn't there a smiley for "ow"?

I don't mind questions. It doesn't really hurt. I swear. Its more of a pinch. Its done with a large needle and the end of it is hollow so that once the hole is done the barbell can be dropped in and the needle comes out the bottom. Then the ball gets screwed on and you're done. Listerine becomes your best friend and constant companion - you have to rinse after EVERYTHING - for about 6 weeks.
It does become slightly uncomfortable the day after and for maybe 2 or 3 days past that because your tongue swells. Not a lot but enough that it makes talking a new experience. You don't realize how used to your tongue you are until it changes. And for 24 hours they recommend soft foods and ice chips (no chewing the ice).
I'm so used to having a barbell in that when I have to take it out for dental work or anything I feel kind of naked.

You have nice looking teeth BB! ;)

edit: Saying that reminds me of a story. First, for perspective: My brother has horribly stained teeth, its a defect in his enamel, they absorb everything... Anyways, back to the story, my brother and his wife got on a cruise two days after their wedding for the honeymoon. Like the third night of the cruise, they go to the show, and it was the newlywed game. Well it turns out they were the newest newlyweds on the ship, so they got picked to go up there and compete. Well one of the questions they asked the men was, what is the grossest thing about your wife*. What did my brother say? Her Teeth! She was pissed!

*This question is wrong on so many levels, if he gets it wrong, he's screwed. If he gets it right, he's screwed, and she feels that much more awful about it...

Good Morning all, Had two calls yesterday with the one way audio, ugh. One of the tech support folks at Verizon has now said that it is an issue with the DTMF overlapping in calls thereby causing loss of all outgoing communication from the phone. Allegedly there is a software fix coming...we have heard that before. Two questions, first, does anyone have any thoughts, does this make sense. Second, does it appear the new official leaked update corrects this? I have read mention of it in other forums but I trust all of you more...

:)

I'll chat about the first question.

Warning - phone tech follows:

First, what is DTMF? DTMF Explained

Next, where does a DTMF issue have a known problem? From 12/20 in our Nexus forum -

When using speaker phone with volume all the way up the tones are not recognized. If you turn down the volume the tones are recognized. Example, checking voicemail on speaker phone. If the volume us all the way up the system tells you that the password is incorrect. However, if you turn the volume down the system will recognize the password.

Known issue reported on droidforums.net.

Finally, is it possible for DTMF at play with one-way calls?

There's been quite a bit of controversy, most taking the position I went to immediately - how do dialing signals affect calls?

While that gets argued out, some are claiming that setting your DTMF from short to long helps the one-way call problem:

https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/759860?start=30&tstart=0

Hit the blue phone widget, then settings, settings, you will see DTMF Tones. Hit that then change from normal to long. If anyone else has any success or not with this please post.
It seems VZW is handing out the overlapping DTMF story quite a bit.

In my opinion, worth every penny you paid for it:

  • the reps got this explanation wrong
  • changing DTMF length is a placebo
  • OR there's some relationship with the DTMF signaling software and phone audio that are getting tangled, and changing the DTMF length alleviates that tangling to some degree
    • example might be: the DTMF portion goes active when it ought not, but there's no DTMF signaling heard, just the voice mute is implemented
      • example normal DTMF transaction:
        • "Press 0 to speak to an operator"
        • (keypad up)
        • (you press 0 )
        • (voice mutes)
        • DTMF for 0 is sent
        • (voice un-mutes)

I hope the reps are getting this partially right, the fix is really coming, and that's the audio software tangle I postulated some are suffering. If true, we'd have never found it.

In my opinion, whenever asked to criticize your SO, the right answer sequence is a) "The problem with my SO is that they're all mine, no one else gets that kind of wonderfulness!" - and when that's not accepted as a cromulent answer, b) "I don't understand the question" and c) endless loop on (b) until they go away! ;) :)

This has been an Early Safety Tip! :D

Or he could have answered as Rodney Dangerfield would have: "probably me"

Speaking of newlywed games....my wife and I participated in one on our honeymoon. Had couples varying in relationship length up to several years of marriage. We almost won after having known each other for less than a year :) (We met for the first time in December of one year and were married the following August, and no, it wasn't a shotgun wedding, lol, we are still without children) There were a couple of questions that we both knew the answer to and went blank.

Regarding piercings....I don't have any but I've always heard toungue piercing doesn't hurt as bad as ear piercing...not sure if that's true or not, just what I've been told.

I pierced both of my ears myself when I was 16. Uhh that would be 27 years ago  My hair was also down to mid back. (yeah my folks loved me...)

I used a large safety pin for the poke, 2 cubes of ice for a minute to numb, and a cut slab of a raw potato to rest against the backside of my lobe for sturdiness. It freekin' hurt like hell and the sound of the popping through that flesh I'll never forget. I ended up piercing 4 of my friends ears afterwards using the same method. We were in a band so we were super cool. You have to remember (if you can) this was in the mid 80's so it was certainly frowned upon in the South. (just misunderstood really)

I stopped wearing earrings in the late 90's guess it just got old and was too trendy at the time. I tried my sisters on the other day and the holes are still good ;)

A little jbdan history for your viewing pleasure =)

I love stories like that. Congrats!

I'd say that's true. I have lobe piercings in both and 1 left in my cartilage (used to have 4 in my cartilage but surgery required them out and I just never put them all back in) and those all hurt more than my tongue. But ears are much easier to take care of. Belly button hurts too. Had that twice - my body rejects that piercing. Pushes it right out. Haven't gone for any others.

HAHA!! I don't know what part of the south you live in, but it's still frowned upon in many small towns, like where I live and grew up.
