Help Airplane mode

I'm sorta new to the EVO/smartphone thing, so I'm not yet "assimilated" to my phone; I don't have to hold it in my hand 24x7 (yet).

But, I do want to try to extend my battery life. I've tried several "task killers" and have read a couple threads about pros & cons. So here's what I'm thinking: AIRPLANE MODE.

Whenever I know I'm going to be without my phone for several hours, I'm just going to put in into AIRPLANE MODE.

What do you think?

i turn off my 3g when i'm not using it. saves a ton of battery that way. 3g is a battery hog. maybe not as bad as 4g. but, if you are in a spotty area and you are not using it why have it on? you will still get and send sms and calls. mms will need 3g, but you can always turn that on.

airplane mode is good for during class or something like that. you can even do that when going to sleep as well. i really do not use that feature at all.

I was wondering, if you completely power down in airplane mode will the phone start back up in airplane mode or will it start back up with all the mobile networks running?

The reason I ask is if you are on an airplane and they make the announcement to turn off all electronic devices, do you have to completely power down the phone...or just put it into airplane mode? If you do power down the phone will it restart without turning on the radios?

I did not know so I tried it....I shut down phone in airplane mode....turned phone back on and it was still in airplane mode...

I think this is done for safety reasons during take-off and landing, so you PAY ATTENTION during these "critical" times to the FLIGHT CREW and not whether you destroy the green pigs or listen to Green Day....once you are cruising, they dont care if you miss the drink cart passing by...

actually this is done because of the frequencys that the radio's of the phone use. These frequencys can interfer with the electrical componets of the plane. Theoretically they could shut the plan down. Not a good thing when your only a thousand feet in the air still taking off.

Actually, there has never been any evidence that cell phones interfere with aircraft systems. The FCC,FAA, and the airlines have not been able to show any evidence of interference. France has actually started to allow inflight cell use on intercontinental flights. The US probably never will because someone would sue every time a plane goes down saying it was the airlines fault for allowing cell phone use. And besides, why allow it when they can charge to use their own airphones?

Theoretically, the radio of the phone might interfere with the aircraft's navigation radios. The phones radios could not shut down the aircraft.

They are always clear about this. Even if you have an "airplane mode" on your phone, they want ALL electronic devices OFF when taking off and landing. Having the phone in airplane mode is fine after you are in the air and they announce that you can turn on approved electronic devices.
