Help Google Wallet on the VZW Galaxy Nexus

Yes, I googled the apk and installed it with no issues. You get a free $10 virtual Google prepaid card that you can reload. You can only directly link it to a Citi MasterCard, but if you have anything else you can just keep reloading the Google card.

I've used it pretty much anywhere you see the pad for those cards that have the chip in them. The app says you don't need Google Wallet open but I open it just in case. I just place my phone on the pad and half the time it's too quick for the cashier to even notice what had just happened. When a cashier or other customer does notice though, expect attention. They will be amazed.

I've only had it not work on me once, but the cashier admitted that the machine was also having trouble reading the normal chipped cards.

You can install it from the market, root not needed, but it isn't a direct install, it's a workaround.

And I highly recommend the Market workaround vs. the apk. It's more of a pain, but you'll at least be assured of the latest updates from Google :)

Plus, I was really uncomfortable putting money from my accounts on an .apk app, since I'm not sure what ELSE was in the apk. At least with the Market version you're more protected against potential backdoor code that sends your information to heaven-knows-who.

How do you do this? I tried going to the market with the chrome browser and it shows that it isn't available for my device and everything is grayed out. I can't click the install button.

EDIT: Nevermind, googled it and found the workaround on droid life and it works fine. Just as an FYI the workaround DOES NOT work with the chrome browser (in my experience) since the chrome browser doesn't ask you if you want to open the market when you hit a link. The Chrome browser just opens everything in Chrome as default.

The stock browser worked, just navigate to the Google Wallet app and keep selecting that you want to open windows in the Browser. Once you are at the grayed out install screen you hit 'back' and switch over to the Market. This takes you directly to the "Accept & Install" button and there you go!

Funny thing is, as you are downloading it there is a notice up at the top saying "this isn't supported by your carrier"... hah!

What do you mean anymore?
When did people ever use the search button?

Guys...I have a question.

Is there anyway I can get google Wallet on my unrooted device?

Thanks for any help,
Nkk

EDIT: I just reread this. To be clear, this was not a jab at the OP...if we were all expected to find everything that was ever written then forum Guides would have little to no use and I would be one of the worst offenders. This was only a sarcastic reply to the post I quoted.

The problem with that logic is, outside of the forums, there is this thing called google search that works fairly well.

I installed via the market workaround, and now my Google Prepaid card is unavailable. I figured if I uninstalled and reinstalled via the apk I downloaded the first time I should get it back. Still not available. I uninstalled and did the market thing again.

Did I do something wrong? I can't use my Google Prepaid card anymore :'(.

Google disabled the prepaid card for security reasons.

Google disabled the prepaid card for security reasons.

Thanks, guess I reacted too quickly. It just happened that I hadn't used Google Wallet in a while and hadn't opened the app until after trying that market workaround trick. I thought I had personally screwed something up on my phone.

Now, the security issue. Ridiculous. It's Google Wallet. Wallet. If I lose my leather wallet, my cash is gone. Is that a security issue? Should I report to the leather wallet manufacturer that there is a design flaw because if I lose it, someone can pull my cash out of it?

I thought the Prepaid card was tied to the account but I don't have a problem with it being tied to the phone. I'm only using it because I'm waiting for them to expand it so that I can use a non-City MasterCard with it. As long as no one can wirelessly pull the info when in my vicinity I think it's secure enough.

It has a lot of people confused since a person has to have access to your phone in order to use google wallet. I also read they were going to make google wallet uninstall if you root your phone after installing.
Though it was not clear what they plan to do to prevent it from being reinstalled.

Hi Mike,

I understand that you have been unable to provision your Google Prepaid
Card and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you.

While we have restored the ability to issue new prepaid cards to Google
Wallet, we have temporarily disabled Google Prepaid Card provisioning on a
device that has previously had a Google Prepaid Card on it. This is to
ensure the security of our users and we are working to restore full
functionality as soon as possible. This process will take approximately
two weeks.

If you would like a refund for the funds on your Google Prepaid Card,
please contact Money Network at 855-896-0693. For more information around
this issue, you can visit the Google Commerce blog at
Google Commerce.

Please reply to this email if you have any other questions. We appreciate
your patience and understanding as we work to improve the Google Wallet
experience.

Sincerely,

Leah
The Google Wallet Team

So Google Wallet only works with the Nexus S 4G phones? I'm not seeing it in the Market.

Thnx.

There is a workaround, it goes a little something like this:

On your phone, open up the market in your browser (market.android.com)

Make sure you are signed out.

Search for Wallet, and when the results come up, press the wallet ICON, not the install button.

On the next screen, press install, and it will ask you to sign in.

When you sign in, it will show you aren't able to install.

(This whole time, if your phone prompts you to choose between market and browser, choose browser).

Now press back on your browser, until you get the choice between browser and market again... This time choose Market. It will allow you to download the app.

(If you have your phone setup to default to Market, you will need to clear that setting before you are able to use this method)

I'm not understanding default Market, it's the only one I have. Something didn't go right. Where do I clear the Market setting? I assume you mean the Market linked with google email? I do have the Wallet icon but it's not working.

If I do get the Wallet installed, will I be able to use the phone at stores like you guys can using your phones?

Thnx.

I used mine yesterday for my second purchase ($20 worth of groceries)... it was alightning fast transaction! Seriously.. set device on paypass reader, it tok about 2-3 seconds before the transaction initiated, but... bang! ... payment sent!

I woke the phone up and unlocked google wallet while I was in line, and then let the phone go back to sleep. unlocked the screen before placing it on the paypass and it just works... kinda scary that the money can disappear so fast!
