[ROM] JACHero 2.3.2 - Fully Optimized HTCHero Port

its very easy, he has a guide but for the super noob i guess he could have placed the files a little more obviously.

there aree 3 files, radio, spl, and the rom.

if you already have jf 1.51 then your radio is most likely the right one already. then then youd flash the spl, and flash the rom just like any other root and youre done.

the only difference is that you need a class 6 sd card with a fat32 partition, and an ext 3 partition. that was my problem, i bricked my sd card from the apps2sd application, so i only had a class 2 and it was super super slow. hopefully thats the reason it was slow. ill try it again once i get a new card but for now im going back to default.

if none of that maks any sense and the walkthrough doesnt help at all, i could help you walk through the walkthrough.

easiest guide to root your phone is here

Beginners Guide For Rooting Your Android G1 To Install Cupcake|Android and Me

they take you step by step and its actually pretty hard to mess up. if you want the hero rom, just follow the guide given in the first post, its pretty short and simple. the jf guide will give you the rc29, and the new radio, and i flashed the spl just because i didnt remember which one i had previously. took all of 5 minutes to get the rom working.

but as he warns in the hero guide, you do need a memory card reader, because after you flash spl your phone will stop on the boot screen, and you have to restart, with the new rom on the card.

as for the sd partition, you can torrent the paragon partition manager, and that seems to work the best on windows. you can also boot from linux, from their free live cd, and use gparted, or fdisk. gparted is pretty easy, but i think paragon partition manager is even easier.

you format the entire sd into fat32 first, then create a new partition after the fat32 and make it ext3. only need less than a gig for the ext3.

as a warning, rooting did seem to speed my phone a tiny bit, and it has some cool features like tethering, but it can be a pain sometimes.

when i turned on my phone all my applications would automatically start up and error and id have to go into task manager to end them all. i have no clue why it did that. another time after using the cache to sd application it screwed up everything including the marketplace and i had to reflash.

seems to be working fine at the moment though, after this most recent flash.

Expierences with rooting issues can be mostly set on the issues with the Build you are flashing to the phone ... every build will have pros & cons ... and even know issues ... so read all you can about a build by its exact version ... and ask others their experiences .. Usually each build will have a thread dedicated to just it ... check those out ... and post you questions to the thread and its Developer ...

Every OS is a work in progress ...

i'm pretty sure i partitioned my sd card correctly. I'm going to install JFv1.5 again, then update the radio & spl from the link i gave earlier, then install JACHero 2.3.3. What do you think?

::EDIT::

Right now i manage to install & run JACHero 2.3.3(FINALLY), after reformat my sd card in Ubuntu.
But there is one more problem. It seems like i cant sync with google(contacts, email, etc). During the setup menu, the google sync has been greyed out. The only options are Exchange & Outlook (how lame!) There's no google apps either, especially market. has it been design this way for this build?

::EDIT AGAIN::

After lots of trial & error, I manage to solve this problem. I reformatted the sd card again with partition magic. First, I made 2 different partition. For the FAT32 partition, I formatted it using Windows Disk Management, & for the ext3, i formatted with partition magic.

just installed 2.3.5 and I got to say I really like it even if it is a little slugish. my sd card is a class four and I just orderd a class 6 so I hope that helps the speed. However blue tooth is NOT working which kinda sucks since I do use my phone for music.
One of the fixes listed in the build was flash 9. I went youtube with the browser and it worked but I just went hulu and... no dice. The page says "loading video" indefintly. But still very promising.
All in all I would say it is totally usable for my daily driver. The intstall went very smooth ( I do have the new radio and spl of course).There isn't any voice search but the ui more than makes up for it. If you have any tips to get bluetooth working I'd appreciate it.
Kinda stumbled on to a "new" hakuro build, wondering if any you guys know which is better. Thanks in advanced.

there is a tutorial in the link at the top of this thread. you will need a card reader just make sure you update your radio then your spl or you will brick your phone.
Here is a tutorial on that:
Android-Unleashed.com Howto Upgrade your Android G1 to the Latest Radio & SPL
you also need to format and partition your sd card.
Some other things that don't seem to be working in this build are, you don't always get your messages and logging into some stuff through the browser ( like ebay ) doesn't work.
I can't wait till they get the kinks worked out this ui is so much nicer than the original.
