Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Good morning all!

Nice long weekend away from much of the internet just hanging with family and friends. Its real nice to get away, but time to play catch up at work after this 3-day weekend. Luckily I didn't have to come in for our migration this weekend, but tons of emails and work to catch up on today.

Hope everyone feels better soon -- I had that bug last week and felt awful therefore I wish it on no one.

Also of note, I decided that I am going to go the root of TiBU and change my Weight Watchers app from a FREE and PRO version to a Free version only with an unlock key. Everyone downloads the free application (makes for only managing one app of code) and then downloads the Unlock Key from the market and when the free app detects the paid app it removes the ads from the Free app. Pretty nifty and hoping to see more people download the key to remove the ads now that its easier (in my opinion).

Whelp, looking today at getting a Transformer Prime. Since we busted the screen on our GT 10.1 and the Flyer seems to be bricked, I'd love to get a new tablet.
Does anyone on here own one? Thoughts? GPS isn't a huge deal since we have our phones for nav. Wifi "could" be an issue but our apartment is like 500 sq ft and the router is never more than 20 feet away so I don't think it'll be a problem. I played with one at a BBM and it was awesome.
I guess I just have a tech itch (and a decent bonus that will pay for it +more).
I swear to god, this forum has made me such a tech whore!:rolleyes:

Edit: alright just called my local GameStop and they have some in stock and I foolishly put one on hold for me for the day. Guess like I'll have something new to mess with!
(and if anyone needs to tell me to stop this madness, let me know)

Good morning Nexus Family! :D

I've just about got my new Nexus in order. It definitely has a reddish hue to the display, and is most noticable in a dark room when the display is dim. The black areas of the screen are definitely reddish. As my wife said, I probably won't notice it in a few days. That's Spousal Unit-Speak for, "Quit whining about it". ;) But seriously, even though it seems to be reddish in color, the display is definitely more crisp than the first phone. I didn't think the display could be any clearer, but putting them side-by-side, you can see the difference.

I've made a few phone calls and no one-way audio issue so far. It's been less than 24 hours so we certainly can't call it fixed. All music has been downloaded and I have my Angry Birds, Robo Defense, and X-Construction saved games. Hey, the important stuff, right?

The phone also hasn't freaked out like it did at first. Hopefully that was a one-time thing. So far, so good! I just have to wipe the first Nexus and send it back to Verizon and the exchange will be complete!

Ha! Welcome to the club. Although the forum just allowed you to realize you're a tech whore. It was there already. :D

Like any of us will tell you to stop!!

As for the Prime, my bf really likes his. Hasn't had any problems with it that I know of.

Haha, I mean this guys voice alone (in all its sexiness) makes me want to get it even more. One of the quirkiest and most fun I've seen. GPS isn't a huge deal. I used it once tethered to my GT 10.1 and it was fun for navigation, but it just isn't a huge deal for me.

The Prime rocks. Mine has been near perfect. GPS, inside, without wifi is no good, but what use is that anyway? My wifi has been as good as my netbook, or my ex's ipad. Battery life out of this world. It, unlike the Nexus, is officially on 4.0.3 already... Grumble, grumble

Morning all, although it is almost lunch. Checking in while i wait on a process here at work that takes about 20 minutes.

Looks like the AF bug is still going around... I had better not get sick ;)

Crazy busy at work, at least the rest of this week, and most likely the next three weeks, so will probably be scarce. Stupid Pandora is rebuffering every 20 seconds on me today. Data speed is under 100 kbps.

Gah, having issues uploading a new avi. BB, tips? I've downsized the pic to under 150x150 and it's still not working.
(<--- see here)

SMH, and now it works! Boring, yet classic.

Alright, out to grab my Prime! They don't have any keyboards in stock, but I still have my Amazon gift card, so I'll use it for them! Looks like my chores for the day just went in the trash...

Its cute. I always had trouble getting the right size for the avi. I'd start high and just keep going lower till it worked. And always refresh at least twice because the site is a bit temperamental at times.

Was just going to tell you it works, but you saw it as well.

Anyone good with logo / graphic design? This is all I could come up with for my Weight Watchers tracker promo graphic - pretty awful (sorry for obnoxious size).

Lucky, glad you got everything in order. So how long did it take you to unlock and root it?

Thank you! However, I spoke too soon... I was typing an email a few minutes ago and the phone freaked out like it did yesterday. I had to pull the battery. Needless to say, I'm looking up Joyce's number (at Verizon) to tell her I'm sending this one back!

I seem to have missed the issue -- got a TLDR of what's going on with your Nexus?

What is freaking out on the device? Just curious.

No problem. The screen would "freak out". That's the best way to describe it. It acted like someone was rapidly swiping their finger across the screen back and forth. Letters were being typed on their own. Apps open and closed. Things like that. All in extremely rapid succession. You couldn't do anything to stop it, except pull the battery. It happened three times within a 24-hour period and I said heck no. Called Verizon and they told me to send it back and did I want to go with another model phone? I said no, I really want the Nexus to work so send me another one, please. So it's on the way and will be here tomorrow. This will be Nexus #3. *sigh*

Can't complain about the customer service... Verizon has been great. I'll keep youse guys posted.

Good luck. This makes me thankful that mine came from a good batch.

Hold up one minute -- was the phone plugged into a charger during this happening? If so was it the OEM charger?

I've seen this kind of thing when plugged into a bad charger (especially on my Droid). Apps would start opening and keys would start being pressed on my keyboard and would type random messages.

That kind of makes sense. It is a USB port, so a flaky charger could be sending who knows what kind of funky signals that the phone is confusing as commands.

It also used to happen on my Incredible when using the 'green' charger. Couldn't use my phone at all when charging on that one.

And now my Prime doesn't want to connect to the home wifi! Argh, had no problem with tethering to my Nexus. Well, guess this will take some work.

Also, I saw Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein of Portlandia at Whole Foods while I was leaving. I think they're in town on tour. Cool stuff.

Edit: Hmm, Nexus won't connect either. Perhaps it's the password I have wrong..yep that was it! Ready to roll.
