Face off: Governor vs President

Personally I think what she did well have been more appropriate than the Presidents actions!

We don't know both sides of the story since the President doesn't feel compelled to share his with us. As such we can only react to her description of the encounter and the rather poor pictures taken by the press.

She says that, out of the blue, the President decided to give her his opinion of her book. Well why in the heck would he do that on an airport tarmac with a reviewing line waiting for him and a crowd of people and press waiting in the background. Seems like a highly inappropriate time to give a book review, don't ya think?

With respect to the photo of her wagging a finger at the President, that one picture is a perfect example of an out-of-context photo. We simply don't know what was being discussed at the exact moment that photo was taken.

And at the end of their conversation a picture was taken that showed what looks like the President walking away from Governor Brewer while the Governor was still speaking. Well I don't know about anyone else but I was taught growing up that walking off in the middle of a conversation is rude. So if the President is willing to walk off in mid-conversation with a state Governor, what does he do when in a conversation with a foreign dignitary? Or a member of Congress? Or a regular citizen? Typically this sort of behavior isn't selective... if he does it here then there's a good chance that he does it elsewhere.

He already showed us, he bows in a meaning that disrespects the office of the president and the citizens of the United States!

I have come to the decision that Obama is nothing more than a thug hired to sit in the seat while the real power hides behind him and whoever it is is hell bent on destroying this country.

And God help us if he is reelected. He will likely become more bold. He will (further) trample our rights and try to pull even more crap. He will take his reelection to mean he is right and no matter what he does, he will think the public is behind him. When that happens, look out. This is not your father's America, that is for sure.

On the other hand, perhaps we need to reelect him and let the country become a ghetto. Then, those that think his ideas and programs represent great ideas will suffer the most and we will learn just what liberal thinking leads to.

We did not seem to object when he put Van Jones to work and Mr. Jones is an avowed communist for God's sake. If we elected him once, we could elect him for a second term. I am waiting for the 11th hour event that will make the poor and useless rejoice and the rest of us suffer.

Will the last person leaving for Cuba please turn off the lights?

Angela Merkel?

Nope . . . she is happy where she is and she was not born here, so it is a no go.

Apparently, she authored the papers: "An Extended Kinetic Model and its Reduction by Sensitivity Analysis for the Methanol/Oxygen Gas-Phase Thermolysis" and my favorite: "Calculation of High Pressure Velocity Constants for Reactions of Decay and Recombinations of simple Hydrocarbon Molecules and Radicals."

Anyone that can do that is not an Obama.

Well, I think anything Obama authored made far more money :D

Very true. But you must admit, understanding Calculation of High Pressure Velocity Constants is vastly more important than some silly book that only sells because Oprah told America to purchase his book.

Hell a book of poems by Michael Jackson or Justin Bieber's memoirs would sell. Does not make it right or good.

I can't help wonder, but does the lack of respect for President Obama ranging from the loudmouth that screamed "YOU LIE" awhile back to this governor's actions signal a disrespect of him not because of his policies, but because of a mindset that he's lesser of a person because of the color of his skin?

Before everyone screams "OMG the race card!" (which tends to be a typical reaction of people that are content with sticking their heads in the sand and the status quo as it stood before the first black President was elected), lets examine these actions and how they compare to past Presidents.

In my memory I can't recall but a handful of incidents that seemed like inappropriate behavior towards the sitting president. The most recent is the shoe throwing incident with GWB. While that action was disrespectful, I see it more as the act of someone deranged that was lashing out for GWB's policies against his country.

The other incident that I can recall was during the Bill Clinton impeachment hearings, and quite honestly was a bi-product of his own philandering.

Like I said, before anyone screams "Race card!" put some thought into it, or better yet, put some thought into the following. When Jackie Robinson broke through the color barrier in Baseball and many fans and even some players used racial slurs, epithets, and outright refused to play with him on the same field, back then some people saw nothing wrong with that attitude. Many decades later, for some reason we're now able to identify the indignities that he fought through. Will we look back decades from now and identify these actions as overt racism or are future presidents subject to the same kind of indignities?

If anyone that claims that I'm using "the race card", then by all means go ahead and post incidents with past Presidents that were an obvious indignity towards a sitting President to their face, if you can find one (and keep in mind that posting some obscure story about a President during the infancy of this country won't hold water since our country's legitimacy was still being established).

Tx, just so we are clear, you are saying that Jan Brewer and her staff is disrespecting the president because he is african american? I want to make sure this is what I am hearing.

I have to tell you it seems to me that the only people mentioning the race or color of the skin of the president are his supporters. I find it more than presumptuous to assume that when people disapprove of him, his policies or his beliefs that it is somehow race related.

There is clearly and rift between the these two and to simply attribute it to race is a dangerous game.

Why not play the race card? In my opinion, he was elected because he is black. sure, some voted for the white guy, and that was because he was black and we cant have a black president. Either way, race played a part in his election.

Obama is disrespected because he is unqualified to lead the free world. He broke almost every campaign promise. He is a mess and he should never had been elected. He was elected because he is a negro.

I'm saying why all of the sudden do we have people disrespecting the President directly to his face? Sure Late Night talk show hosts say all sorts of things about a President's actions to an audience, but the level of disrespect being given to this President seems unprecedented.

If you have examples of the same types of disrespect being given to a sitting President that I may have overlooked, then please feel free to enlighten me. I can't remember any myself, so any instances you can remember would be greatly appreciated, otherwise my statement stands, as hard is it may be for some people to accept or come to grips with.

So try it this way: give us three specific examples of why we should respect the president? We should respect the office, but as far as Obama is concerned, he is a disaster deserving zero respect.

I find Obama more qualified than the sitting President we had for 8 years prior to him, the current crop of GOP candidates, or his rival in 2008. I'll agree that his whole "I'm going to shake up the system" was all pandering for votes, but how many presidents have made promises during the campaign trail that haven't kept them? Dare I say all, in the past 3 decades?

It's fine if you think he was elected because he's black. You also forget, he's 1/2 white. Your mind actually identified him completely as black (thus you validate my claim that people only see his skin color). Thank you for justifying my claim.

1. He knows how to say the word "NUCLEAR".

2. He hasn't led us into a war via false intelligence....YET.

3. He himself hasn't used the "race card" as a crutch even though many in the GOP have done an admirable job of presenting him with enough ammunition to pull out the race card (Newt most recently calling him the Food Stamps President...He might as well refer to him as the Fried Chicken Red Koolaid President as far as I'm concerned).

4. He hasn't had sexual relations with an intern or any extramarital affairs that we know of...YET

Oh wait you only wanted 3.....Ok now you list 3 reasons WHY we should be disrespectful to him. By all means, feel free to list "Because he is a Negro" as one of your reasons, but that may not bode well for you.

Obama's biggest failing, and what led to his disaster status, is trying to work with the current crop of Republicans in DC. So you should not have respect for any of them either, who also have much easier jobs.

Obama went overboard on the vote pandering. People's expectations were to high. Probably the worst timed election in history too, it was only in 2009 when the scale of the economic problems became clear.

The hatred of Obama is interesting. Seems even worse then the Dubya hate in U.S. (which was quite extreme, but far more deserving).
Bush created a massive deficit during a time of economic prosperity from a deficit. He oversaw huge governmental interference in people's private lives. He started a war based on wrong information simply to finish the job his father failed to finish. He enriched those already disproportionatly benfitting from the good times at the expense of the rest of society.

Obama inherited all these things, and a ruined economy (a legacy of Bush, and other past presidnets, beginning with and primarily Reagan), and tried to deal with them. He tried to fix the broken healthcare system which states were failing to fix (not that it shouldnt be their near exclusive reponsability, but hey). He tried to cut the deficit.
Yet he is despised by a disproportionate amount of people.

So your argument is we should respect him for pronouncing the word nuclear correctly, not taking us to war, not cheating on his wife that we know of (your words) and not playing the race card??

How about we disrespect him for his economic record and his blaming it on republican interference for starters?

Listen, if he is a bad president, he is a bad president...I don't care what color his skin is and I doubt anyone with a high school education, honestly believes his race has anything to do with anything!

The only conclusion I can come to regarding why he's hated and why some people are perfectly fine disrespecting him is because of the color of his skin.

He did come way short on his promises during his campaign, but so have most of his predecessors "Read My Lips" anyone?

What I also find vexing is many on the Right have already tried to pin the Wall Street bailout on him.

Where I have issue with him is in regards to Obamacare, and it's not the same issue the Right have with it, which they believe in "Survival of the financially fittest". He had an opportunity to remove the leverage employers had over their employees by allowing the government to provide healthcare to its citizens. If a basic standard of healthcare could be provided, which would allow for preventative medicine, then our healthcare costs could be held in check. Instead, many people don't seek medical attention until it's either too late or the costs have skyrocketed thus taxing our healthcare industry. What he gave us instead, is a mandate to buy insurance, not exactly a good idea in a down economy. He also would've been able to remove the cost of employers having to provide healthcare for their employees, but I don't recall that ever being discussed by the Right.

If you can provide specific policies of his that have led to this "economic record" you speak of, then I'm all ears. And please don't mention Obamacare as one of these policies because that program hasn't even been fully implemented yet and from what I understand the cost of that program doesn't even compare to the cost of Bush taking us to war.

Yeah I agree about the healthcare bit, the fact that businesses have to cover workers seems ridiculous to me, its a huge cost that small and medium enterprises by rights shouldnt have to bare. I can't see it helping employment, for sure.

And of course a focus on regular checkups and GP visits etc instead of waiting until a multi-hour op is lacking as far as I've gathered.

And as usual, the GOP does a masterful job of making the general population believe that universal healthcare is the boogie man. I'll never understand how people are perfectly fine voting away their best financial interests. Of course, this explains why the gap between the richest Americans and the poorest Americans is the widest it's ever been.
