I've Noticed In The Dark

I've noticed that I can see light coming through the edge of the top part of the keys plate when surfing the web or watching Youtube videos at night. If my phone is verical such as when I surf the web I don't notice anything unless I'm tilting the phone toward me. However if I'm holding the phone horizontally I notice it much more out of the corner of my eye. Somtimes I can see red coming through which looks like a line. It's some what annoying but maybe it's just normal as I think the plate has loosened over some months. I've really just noticed this more recently though. Has anyone else? Is this normal with wear?

between the screen and the keys? Yeah, that's just part of the way the Hero is. I believe there's a very slight gap there and it's reflecting off the underside of the keys and the edge of the glass, bringing it up. Not a big deal other than it's a potential place for dust to get in for the people that have been having that issue

Cool thanks. Fortuntely (knock on wood) I haven't had the dust issue but am on my 2nd Hero do to a blown earpiece which I was lucky enough to have happen back when I bought it in November within my 30 days. Lol then I read posts on here and get nervous about every potential defect.

Don't worry you will get dust... Everyone will get dust eventually... it's the stupid design of the phone. Anyone that thinks they won't get it is funny..lol

I got some dust and have had the phone about 2 months now.

Really? Had mine since mid-October. No dust.

Not everyone will get dust. I believe there was a defective batch of gaskets shipped to the factory that caused the dust issue. I believe the reason it seems like such a prominent issue is due to the "forum effect".

Agreed. Hopefully mine isn't part of that batch!:)

If you do get dust (which I did), take it to a repair center and tell them you talked to HTC and HTC told you to go to Sprint and they could fix it. Worked for me and my screen looks brand new.

Thanks. This is really good to know. I'm not a fan of going the refurb route. The only time I exchanged the Hero I have now was within the first month I had it so fortunately it was for a brand new one. :D

Well, I'm not so sure I didn't get a refurb. It's weird...my phone on the outside near the USB had a nick in it and when I got it back after the cleaned the screen it was a different bottom because that wasn't there and also they replaces the front plate with the call and end button. The weird part is, I don't see how they could have given me a refurb because everything on my phone was the same, they outside just looked different.

lol

but to the OP i notice that too its on the left above the menu button

E.A.G.L.E.S-Eagles. That's my team! Anyways, good to know I'm not the only one. You're right it is above menu. I guess what I was getting at though is if you hold the phone sideways like say to watch videos or just for general web surfing it's like a solid line of light creeping out from the edge of the plate. Reason for the title is that I surf a lot when I'm laying in bed before I go to sleep and I was actually trying to figure out if my plate is loose because recently I've noticed the creaky keys issue others have been discussing but never had any creakiness until recently.

The only problem with the faulty gasket theory is the effects are far too sporadic in nature. There are people reporting dust who obtained their Hero in October and just within the past few weeks. It's probably more so on the user's end and what he/she the owner is doing which either causes the gasket to go bad or subjects the phone to more dust.

I was hoping like crazy I wouldn't get it, but alas I finally started seeing dust form a few weeks ago (very difficult to see at first) and has gotten progressively worse. As long as I can get the nerve to crack it open and do the fix myself without breaking it, I won't mind too much I guess. Actually, my thoughts are that if I disassemble then I will seal this baby up tight with silicone and then enjoy carrying in my pants pocket like any phone owner should be able to do. I have carried mine in a holster, but in the winter with coats which are only about waist length, I still have to place the phone (in the holster) inside my coat pockets and I would imagine that's where I got it. My coats are older with lint and dust in the pockets so it's no wonder it crept up inside the phone.
