Help Question about charging phone.

When my battery dies and I plug into into a charger, why does it go to a screen similar to "sleep" mode instead of turning on completely and going to home screen?

I hope this makes sense and someone can explain this to me.

First, this is a guess, but it it is a way to show you that the phone knows that it is being charged. Otherwise, you would not know that the phone is actually being charged. Second, it is a way to charge the phone powered off - as I almost always do. It's better for the battery to charge while the power is not being drawn down by the phone. The last thing that I want is for the phone to power on just after I have turned it off.

The phone also needs to monitor the charge level of the battery pack as it nears full charge to avoid overheating the cells, so there is likely circuitry in the phone that does this monitoring at a low-power state. Again, a reason why you see the Moto log and (briefly) the charge level of the battery pack.
