I personally have done it. You have to have USB Debugging enabled and change your connection mode to Internet Connection and choose Ethernet. Then you run the .bat file and it should root it.
oh wow... just performed root. Very easy and straight forward. I wish it was that easy for my Ally. IM still scared to try that one, looks a lit more complicated.
root went fine , however after installing ics launcher , an then deleting it phone only boots to the 4g screen , need help , thanks in advance if any ideas
Hi. I'm not new to androids, but I am however new to the forums. I have successfully rooted my spectrum, but have not had any luck finding some custom roms for it. Has anyone had any success with some roms? Again I am new, so if this has already been talked about I apologize. But, any help would be appreciated.
Most likely because they're installing a rom with no device files; you need device-specific files for hardware in addition to the rom files. Sometimes, you can just add the files to a compiled rom, but it's usually better to compile for a device. If anyone gets the Spectrum files uploaded to a github, I could take a crack at compiling CM9. I've got a build of CM9 for the Droid 2 Global @ Rootz, so this won't be much different (in compiling process).
Search for Mobile Phones and VS920 and it will give you the source code you are looking for. It's been up for a couple of weeks now, I just haven't had much time to look into it.
FWIW, that doesn't have the device-specific files needed for compilation. It has 'common' files, but not for the 920. I'll have to wait til someone does a system dump or ups to Git.
