Wow, Atrix is yesterday's news to ATT

I lost my Atrix in a river while Kayaking the other day. I went into the official ATT Corporate store to get a replacement under the insurance that I pay them for every month. I was informed that I had to do it myself online and get one mailed to me. I asked if they had Atrix in stock at the store and they said not for months. Then I looked around and the Atrix and its accessories were nowhere to be found. In fact the whole store was basically Apple and Samsung. I asked about getting an early upgrade to a Note or Skyrocket and they said "sure for $650; unless you want to buy U-verse.

Then I looked online when I got home and you can't even buy Atrix accessories any more. After seeing this, my confidence that we will ever see ICS just dropped to an all time low.

Sheesh! They need to make the contracts 1 year instead of two if they are going be this way. The way technology is advancing, I want a new phone every year! The Skyrocket is amazing compared to the Atrix. I want one. Instead I have to pay a $125 deductible to get a replacement Atrix.

Oh well. Rant off...

Sorry to hear, I understand how you feel.

Although I do want to make a point - this is the consumer market. From normal day-to-day use, I don't actually see a huge difference between the Atrix and the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. It just goes to show how successful the consumer market is in enticing people to upgrade frequently just to stay current with technology. The spec boosts, in my opinion, won't make my phone experience any faster. It would only give me a larger/higher res screen (maybe), the ability to play some newer games, and bragging rights (although not all of us brag lol)

I agree AT&T should treat you better though. Especially paying so much every month!

All you have to do is resign your two year contract and you can upgrade your phone after a year...that's what I do. I'm always "eligible" after one year. I like AT&T and haven't had any issues with them and I don't play on switching, so I don't mind resigning. Although I like my Atrix so much I probably won't switch to another phone until Atrix 2 to be honest...I've had mine for about a year now. I don't know what kind of AT&T store you went do but that's bogus...just call the warranty hotline or w.e and they'll ship one out and you'll have it in two days.

That's interesting. Thanks. ATT does seem to work with people rather than lose a loyal customer. I got them to give me the Atrix after I had a Captivate for six miserable Android 2.1, broken GPS months. Like many people, I had called many times to complain about what a POS the Captivate was.

Fortunately the Atrix is an awesome phone and giving up the fingerprint scanner is not something that I look forward to. I figure I will bide my time a little longer until something comes out that I absolutely cannot be without.

I did get my $125 re-manufactured Atrix in the mail and have is all set up again.

Right now, when it comes to accesories and features, there are almost no phones to compete with the Atrix 4G

Right on. Before I even bought my Atrix 4G, it was the accessories that attracted me to it as well as the phone. I have the standard and lapdock and love them both. Right now, I have no plans on upgrading and very happy with this unique phone.

Sadly, of the last 3 phones I've had, this Atrix has lasted the shortest time before failure. About a week after the 1 year warranty, the touch screen crapped out. I'm going to 'try' to fix it, as it seems to be a loose or wonky cable (need to double check ifixit for a specific part) as it sometimes works ok, but mostly has about a 1/2" bar in upper quarter of screen that becomes unusable. Then it's ok for a short while. Then it's not. Weird.

I'm thinking the Note will be next and I'll just leave the Atrix in the lapdock.

I love how people complain to AT&T about not being able to change their phones whenever they feel like it or when a newer device comes out, just because they are a long time customer or pay "a lot of money every month" to the company. First of all, you pay for a service every month just like you do for other things. AT&T doesn't get your money every month and save it away somewhere for when you need a new phone. Your paying for a service that provides you airtime coverage, data, messaging, etc.

Secondly, people really have to start understanding how upgrades work. When you decide to sign a 2 year contract and get a new phone, AT&T is usually taking a $375 to 450 LOSS on the device you choose. Obviously, in those 2 years the company will make that money back and more (a profit). If they or any other company for that matter, allowed every customer to upgrade and receive a full discount on a device whenever needed, they would easily go out of business.

Sorry about my rant. I just get so tired of hearing people bitch about cell companies for not letting them upgrade even though they pay x amount of money or have been with them so long. I will always stand up for the honest person who might have been ripped off or is being screwed, I'm not for big corporations but I just feel like most people don't apply common sense when it comes to these things.

Oh and also, AT&T changed their upgrade policy last year so that now everyone has to wait at least 18 months before upgrading. No more yearly upgrades.

Great post. I would like to add, that everyone who signed that 2 yrs contract knew they couldn't upgrade for two years. (If they didn't, they didn't read the contract.)
