Hi all!
I have had my G2X for about 1-2 months now. It's my first smart phone...I am learning that settings may depend upon the phone, the operating system being used, and the apps being used.
I have figured out a lot on my own, but I have a few questions:
1. How do I upgrade my operating system to the latest version (without too much trouble)?
2. Is there a "dropped call" notification on the G2X? Or an app to get one? I don't drop calls too often, but when I do, I don't realize it. I'm tired of saying "Are you there? Can you hear me now?" My old regular cell phones usually had a great hang up sound.
3. I'm having issues connecting to--and staying connected with--my WiFi. I've checked all my settings. Some days are better than others. The other cell phones in our household (same provider, different phones) don't have an issue with WiFi.
4. My battery usage seems erratic. Today I went from 100% to 30% in 4 hours. I know it depends on what you're doing...I'm overwhelmed by all the apps that guide you and I don't want to download too much junk. Is there a recommended way to get a handle on my battery usage?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums.:)

I'll answer what I can off the top of my head so you know someone is listening. I circle back and edit my post as I search around for answers to your other questions. I have a Galaxy Nexus, so some answers may not fit exactly.
1. Your carrier will update you when they have approved the update. Carriers have mixed / poor history of doing this however. Depending on you phone and forum, you can root and load custom roms. I will follow up with some information and explanations in another post. You can also check the all things root subforum for your phone.
2. There are free apps that will put a notification in your status bar. If you have a notification LED, LightFlow will blink it red (and give you a lot of flexibility with other notifications). If you do have a notification LED, go with LightFlow as it does a lot more than an icon in you notification bar.
3 & 4 I'll get back to you on these.

Again, welcome the AF and I'll get beck to you in a bit.

Thank you, Chris, for answering. :D I am still wondering about #1 but I have figured out #2-4 by now.

I don't have your phone so the best thing is to give this a good read (http://androidforums.com/g2x-all-things-root/448166-t-mobile-g2x-all-things-root-guide.html) to understand the whole process of rooting your phone and loading a custom rom. This is the fastest way to get an updated Version of Android. Depending on your phone you may not be able to run ICS (Android 4.0) so the best you may get is Gingerbread (2.3.x). Don't worry about Android 3.x as that was tablets only. Check out all of the links in that guide, if you are uncomfortable with anything, ask before you try. Rooting your first phone is usually the hardest. I wish I give you more specific answers, but each phone has its own quirks with rooting.
