Help Texting Problem

I tried to look through the threads, so I apologize if this has already been addressed.

I've noticed that sometimes when I get a text it will only flash on the ticker and not show up in my notifications or in my texting threads. If I'm lucky enough to catch it I can see what the person sent, but who knows how many times I've missed a text because of this.

Any ideas? I've actually had two different Continuum phones and have had the same problem with both.

I assume you are using stock messenger. And that you aren't rooted? Have you noticed a pattern? Certain contacts or certain time of day? Maybe when you have a particular app open, or after you've opened a certain app for the first time after a reboot? Are your contacts synced with google? Have you tried a 3rd party messaging app? And if so does the same thing happen? I know a lot of questions, but the answersmight help me diagnose the issue.

Thanks for getting back to me. I am using a stock messenger and am not rooted. My contacts are synced with google and I've never tried a 3rd party messaging app. Otherwise, I haven't really noticed a pattern except for it seems like it happens when I get a quick reply from someone (although it could be happening a lot more and this is just when I notice it). Are there any other texting apps out there I could try? I'm not clueless when it comes to phones, but I'm definitely no expert.

Thanks again.

Well, I use Handcent, personally. Just type SMS messenger in market. You might also try clearing cache in stock messenger. Settings/applications/manage apps/mms clear cache and or data. Clearing data will delete your messages, so use SMS backup restore to backup what you want to keep.

Thanks. I think I'm going to give Handsent a try, seems interesting. I'm guessing it notifies you of a text just like a normal text?

Yes. Follow the set up, and it will walk you through setting up and disabling notifications on stock, so you dontvwindbup with 2 icons on your notification bar. Ticker will still work, and you will still be able to text from your contact list.

Thanks again. What I'm having problems with (and I'm sure I'm just clueless) but I cannot find the stock messaging app. The directions on handcent say to go into the stock app, but since I cannot find it, I cannot get through the rest of the steps. I've looked through all the apps I have (both for messaging, stock messaging, etc.) but I cannot find it. Any ideas?

Thanks

Its the messaging app with the green
Smiley face. Open it, click on menu, then settings. Go, down to the last section (notification) and unchecking the first box. The rest of that section will Grey out. That will keep you from getting notifications in both handcent, and stock messenger.

Okay, I got it. Didn't understand how to get to the menu on the app, but figured it out. Is there a way to get rid of the little red circle on the green smiley face app letting me know how many unread text messages there are? I noticed it stays even after I read the messages on HandCent.

Not really. You'll notice you always have one in the ticker icon, too. What I did, was replace the stock messaging app in the dock, with Handcent. To do this, put your app drawer in grid view (if it's not already there), then hit menu, and select 'edit'. You'll see kind of ashamed box behind all of the movable apps. Scroll over to where the Handcent icon is, and hold down on it, until you get a quick vibration. Then, without letting go, dragvit down to where the stock messenger icon is in the dock. You can use this method to change allvthe icons in your dock except for apps/home. And to rearrange your app drawer.
