Root 5.5.893 to .902 update failing

I'm having trouble updating my Bionic to .902.

I'm currently rooted and I've frozen some apps through Titanium Backup. Since having problems updating, I have defrosted those apps. I've never installed any leaked updates and I think I am currently on 5.5.893. I say "think" because the baseband, webtop and kernel versions would suggest 5.5.886, but the system version says 5.5.893.

The system version is listed as 5.5.893.XT875.Verizon.en.US

and the baseband, webtop and kernel are as follow:

Baseband: CDMA_N_03.1C.50R ltedc_u_05.15.00
Webtop: WT-1.3.0-105_DBN-1
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-g790a33c
hpn683@il93lnxdroid29 #1
Build Number: 5.5.1_84_DBN-62

I'm getting the following error
assert failed: apply_patch_check (a bunch of alphanumerics follow)
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

I haven't made any drastic changes to the phone and never installed a leaked update, so I'm not quite sure why I cannot update. Does anybody know how I might be able to proceed to get the update without having to completely restore my phone to stock? Thanks for any help in advance.

Looks like you have a "hybrid" system. Since your system, kernel, baseband and webtop don't match up the update will fail every time. The best way to fix this is flash the 5.9.902 update using rsdlite. This will wipe every thing but your external sd card. Make a back up using Titanium Backup or another similar app. Follow the instructs in this thread http://androidforums.com/bionic-all-things-root/480176-how-flash-5-5-893-5-9-902-rsdlite.html and the restore your apps with from the back up you made.

Good luck.

I guess I've got a similar problem. Don't ask me to recall the steps I ultimately went through to get my phone where it is -- lol.

SYSTEM VERSION: 5.7.893.XT875.Verizon.en.US <- .7 ?
BASEBAND: CDMA_N_03.1C.57R LTEDC_U_05.15.02 <-.02 ?
WEBTOP: WT-1.3.0-108_DBN-21 <- this one matches 5.5.893
KERNEL: 2.6.35.7-g68606e6 - vwm746@il93inxdroid43 #1 <- this one matches 5.5.893
BUILD NUMBER: 5.5.1_84_DBN-62_MR-11 <- _MR-11 ?

Guess I need to do something similar, although I don't mind returning to stock if I can. Is that a better way to go?

Yup, I hated to have to do it, which is why I was asking if there was a way around it, but I flashed with RSDLite and installed axi0m yesterday. Runs great. Thanks for the help.

K -- worked for me. Everything good.

You have a link for how to root after going this route?

NM -- used motofail_windows.zip -- rooted. Installing Titanium -- almost back to normal :)
