hi
this is very new territory for me as really dont know what im doing with rooted phones but heres my problem.
my wife bought a second hand orange san francisco and its running Japanese Jellyfish RLS9 but it contstantly crashes when she uses the camera or plays any games also it cuts off quite often when she makes call.
here are the details about the phone:

model: zte blade
android version: 2.2
baseband version: 003ZB01
kernal version: 2.6.32.9-perf
zte-kernel@zdroid-SMT
build number: japanese jellyfish RLS9

i hope someone has the knowledge to help me sort this as the phone is very frustrating at the moment!
thanks for reading.

Hi.....don't have the Blade any more, but just some advice:

You need an up-to-date ROM....there are now numerous Gingerbread ROMs available.

First, check your Gen.....with Mr. Pigfish from Market......

you may still be Gen 1.....and almost all new ROMs are Gen 2.....

You could use a stand alone TPT[Total Phone Transfer] to modify your phone if necessary, then flash a ROM of your choice with ClockworkMod Recovery.....The TPT would install the CWM.

However, it would be advisable to make a Nandroid Backup with your current Recovery if you are Gen 2....

Gen 1 backup would be no good on Gen 2!!!!

Also, backup the full contents of your SD card and keep it safe perhaps on your PC.

Also, get Titanium Backup to backup your user Apps....don't worry about data or system Apps.

There is more, but check your Gen first, Pigfish!!

Then check Recovery.....get Rom Manager from Market.....it will flash latest ZTE Blade Recovery for you......

But, if you are Gen 1, do not flash latest Recovery.....it will be Gen 2.

Use 3.0.1.4. For Gen 1.

And, remember, you can do TPT which will convert phone to Gen 2 and flash appropriate Recovery....in one move....

Before this decide on which ROM to use.....I would recommend Fish & Chips......was very good for me, and us still on my old Blade, which my son has now without complaint.

You will have questions and they will be answered here.

Howsit goin' groggy

I will just post the instructions for the TPT....as given on the original thread:

Swedish-Snow-RLS4b-TPT

http://www.mediafire.com/?0fv832zzy4gcpq8

MD5: D05F4AE4A4D7BC1ACA2A2EB0CC040F30

TPT instructions: -Unpack Swedish-Snow-RLS4b-TPT.zip to your phones sdcard, so that you have 'image' folder on the root of your sdcard (inside this folder there are many .mbn and .img files).

-Install AFV (Android File Verifier) from market

https://market.android.com/details?id=sa.afv&hl=en

-Use AFV to check that MD5 matches. Use 'verify nandroid backup' option to check /sdcard/image/nandroid.md5.

-Power off, pull battery out, put battery back in

-Press and hold VOLUME UP and MENU keys while you power on

-You should see green text on your screen. Installation is in progress and you can let go of the keys

-It takes about a minute after which your phone will boot into Swedish Snow RLS4b (first boot can take several minutes)

After completed installation, delete/move/rename 'image' folder so that you don't restart TPT by accident.

Let me know if this is a problem.....

I am on vacation.....but no matter

I will answer if I can get WiFi.....

Ok. Is this better than fish and chips what I have been reading about?

The difference between F&C and the Swedish Snow is that SS has a TPT install, which requires very little user interaction.....

whereas F&C requires you to go to Gen 2 first, and then flash the ROM via Recovery......

SS is an all-in-one solution and is ideal for someone who has little experience.....

Just follow the steps above, and in the Modaco thread, to the letter.

NB.....leave nothing out!!!!

If you have user installed Apps you want to keep, use Titanium Backup free from Market, but wait a while after your TPT has installed, and you have logged onto Google, your Apps may restore from Google Servers..if you have that set up currently.....

Check in Settings/Privacy/Back up data and restore apps should be checked......this is on my phone.....not sure about yours....

Be careful not to restore System Apps or Data from Titanium BU...these can cause problems when going to a new ROM and Android Version.....

You will have to set up your WiFi and probably the APN for your Mobile Service Provider.....

this may be available from your SP "over the air" by SMS....

check this out also!!

Keep in touch if you need further help....

cheers from Sunny Lanzarote

hi
danny
lucky you in lanzarote!!
ok so do i just follow post #11?
i dont understand that modico thread!
and i really dont understand the backing up procedure :( sorry

Yeah....really nice here....

OK....post #11...on this thread????

These are the basic instructions to Flash the Swedish Snow ROM on your phone, using the TPT Method....which is easiest for you.....

It is taken directly from the Modaco thread.....it is the source!!!

This also means that your phone gets upgraded to Gen 2, Android Gingerbread, and has a Recovery installed.....all in one procedure....

As for other stuff....you read all my previous post....I don't wanna say it all again!!!!

Back up I mentioned is using Titanium Backup from Market.....

Use it to back up any Apps you want to keep, you can restore them afterwards...

I also mentioned Google backup...could you check that, like in settings??? as I mentioned....

This is only if you actually have Apps installed you wanna keep in new ROM....

TPT procedure will wipe your phone, and completely replace everything

.....you will have like a new phone....

It works....I did it on my old Blade/OSF.

But, if you any way not confident...don't do it....

get a friend who is comfortable with this stuff to help!!!!

I am not responsible for what you do with your phone!!!!! [Just the usual disclaimer]

if you decide to go ahead....make sure you do all the steps.....

no short-cuts....that is a sure day to "Brick"......

but it is actually hard to Brick

Man.....

you have run the TPT.....

And now you're Android 2.3.5????

On the Swedish Snow ROM????

I am so pleased.....

I am having a cooool beer in celebration....

Of course, now you are Gen 2....a

nd you can use whatever ROM you like....

I miss the Blade....so easy to modify!!!!

How does it feel and work....has it solved your original probs.....etc

I would really like to know!!!!

Congrats

Man.....dat is a leading question :D

Games I know nada about.....

You have in mind Music???

Try Doods Music Streamer....or TinyShark....both free on Market!!!

both use Grooveshark to stream whatever you like to your device!!!

Good when you have WiFi....or will work on mobile 3g data....if you gotta plan....be careful!!!!

For VOIP there is a Skype Version which works on the Blade....it's on Modaco....I'll find a link....

Viber works also, but there is a bug, where your sound goes through speaker and not headset....not good.

There is also a Flash version which works...again, I will need to have a root around to find....

For nerdy stuff....there is too much.

I would get ROM Manager and Titanium Baxkup.....

And your ROM supports Dark Tremors A2SD.....which means you can move Apps to a Partition on your SD card.....

I would also take advantage of the inbuilt App2SD.....so much stuff...

maybe mana

It just crashed twice playing hanging with friends :(

Hanging with friends????

That a game....if so, I know nothing!!!

What crashed??? Phone or App....

If App, I would report to dev or at website.....

most guys are glad to get feedback and will respond!!!

If phone, there is the ROM forum in Modaco....loads of help usually there....

How are things generally with the phone now, in comparison to previous JJ9??

Feedback to the forum is essential for other users, as El Prez says elsewhere!!!! :D

hey danny
still sunning yourself?

it was the phone that crashed twice and this is the same problem i originally had but the phone itself seems a lot more responsive and smoother

Man...it has not rained in 2 weeks....sunshine all the way ....2 more weeks to go......

I was just reading up on that game...

seems to crash and FC a lot.....

Hopefully this is what it is.....

But....

If you get other FC's and crashes....

maybe phone is not the best....

or perhaps SD card....

You know you can Overclock now....with No frills CPU app....I think you got that

I think go to 710 at most....for stability....but speed is good.

Also, you may have VM Heap tool....check that out also......

For memory management and ultimate speed.....

Check out V6 TurboCharger....on XDA....

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276

It really improves memory management.....

and no need for any kind of task killers....

which are bad news for Android phones!!!!!!!
