Root A little help please

I apologize in advance if there is already a thread concerning this, but I've searched and could not find the specific answers I was looking for. If they are out there and I'm just blind then could someone please send me in the right direction? That'd be awesome.

But anyway, I was wondering if the new DMUpdater includes everything that's needed to root. More specifically SPRecovery and Nandroid backups. I wasn't sure if these are things that are required separately that need to be installed first before using the DMUpdater. And if these are included than how does one use them in the event that I'd need to recover to a working backup? More or less I want to know the basics of what each one will do for me and my rooting experience.

Also, what are the difference in the DroidMod ROM versus stock 2.0.1? Is it themed at all? Are there any included features or would I need to seek out a custom ROM such as Smoked Glass? And I've noticed that a lot of people complain about numerous problems getting their DROID to function properly after rooting. Issues with phone calls, Email, random reboots, battery life being crap, etc. Should I worry? And if I experience these issues will re-flashing stock 2.0.1 fix them?

Thanks in advance for any helpful responses, again sorry if this was covered in another thread. I want to make the plunge into rooting and I've been thinking it over for quite some time so any help with the process is greatly appreciated.

droid mod will do everything for you. I dont think DM is themed at all but I could be wrong there. I have used a lot of roms since I tried DM.

The difference is you will have a faster phone that you can over clock and install a number of programs that are other wise unusable. You can also apply themes, wirelessly tether, have live wallpapers, multitouch browser and many other things.

I havent had really any of those problems but if you do its really easy to install another rom or use DMupdater to go back to bone stock

Yes, it is all included. Quick and easy. If you don't like it just restore. Also get SetCpu from the market if you want to over clock. Lots of cool ROM out there. I am running Adamz's right now.

power off the phone. While holding x power on the phone and keep x held. If you have ran droid mod that will take you to SP Recovery and you can perform a nandroid restore there. You have to make nandroid backups to perform a nandroid restore though.

Your photos and music remain untouched (every once in a while I back up all my photos and music to my PC through USB). I use a program called Titanium to back up all my programs and their settings. The paid version has a batch mode which is a real time-saver. When you run the DMupdater, you will go through the process of doing a Nandroid backup. It should all be quite painless. I started that way (using SM Updater) and now have have advanced to where I am finding all kinds of new, innovative ways to get in trouble (and despite my reckless stupidity, I still have not bricked my phone).

DMUpdater is great- I used it to check it out. But I would also highly recommend trying out the "manual" method of using SPRecovery and such just in case you run into a problem. At a minimum I would backup like someone else said and double check you can recover in case something else goes wrong. Good luck!! I have three droids (as of tonight) rooted and love it.

I am officially rooted now and accomplished quite a lot all in one single go without a single problem!! I guess it really pays to do a lot of research before diving into something like this.

I'll be putting up a bunch of screen shots in a few.

I've got the DroidMod v1.0 with a custom theme, which has parts of about 3 or 4 other ROM's combined. Custom font, all the 2.1 apps except the launcher, and a dark themed version of Home++, the 2.1 keyboard and 2.0 lockscreen, Live wallpapers that unfortunately don't run with home++ but they work great on the stock homescreen, not a single issue. And I overclocked to 800MHz. Not bad for a n00b who managed all this in about 2 hours and I haven't had a single force close or stutter on ANYTHING! Tested my messaging, phone calls incoming and outgoing, GPS, Wifi, tethering, multitouch browser, its all perfect. Youtube is defaulted to HQ.

If I had known rooting was really this great, I would have done it ages ago. lol

I really appreciate everyone's help, and I hope with time I can become better and dive into some more advanced (more fun) aspects of having a rooted phone. But for now this is more than enough to make all my DROID hating iPhone friends jealous.

Oh and I almost forgot, I made my first nandroid advanced backup, and did an advance restore to pre DroidMod v1.0 just to make sure it works and that I know what I'm doing. All was as smooth as a babies behind. Have had multiple reboots just to see if it would mess anything up on the phone and it runs as perfectly now as it did stock. I think I fell in love with my phone all over again lol
