Battery Performance - Wow!!!!!!

I've just moved over from the HTC Desire and so far all I can say is wow!!!!

If I was lucky I would get 6 hours of fair usage out of that, with the Note I've had 15 hours at medium usage which left me at 40% and today Im half way through the battery at 10 hours.

That is amazing compared to my previous smart phones, does it get even better after a few days or will it decline and level out?

Loving the handset so far, can't fault it and have no problem putting it in my pockets.

I let it run out and I'm getting about 6 hours of hard core use before it peters out below the 20% mark. I've messed around with all of the battery settings including app killers etc. I probably have too many dynamic widgets downloading and refreshing to have it last past 4 p.m. I have to carry a separate usb charger in my coat pocket for the ride back on the bus.

My biggest problem with the phone is that even when it's charging, and I'm using it to play music, the battery struggles to charge. Overall not happy with the battery life but what can you expect when I use it like a combined phone/tablet.

I've heard some good things about the battery life for sure, but what's funny is that while at the AT&T store yesterday I was playing around with the Note and the salesman kept telling a guy who was thinking of getting one that it has a "three day battery life." I thought that was interesting, though I guess with data turned off and light usage you could pull that off.

Yeah not sure if I root the note if I'll lose key functionality with the S-Pen. The Social Hub app is brutal on resources and battery, one of my top 5 battery drainers.

Curious why you'd say that? Root doesn't detriment ANY phone functions.

On ICS Samsung replaced the GPS toggle in the notification pull down with a data toggle - much more useful!

Oh...so the current Samsung apps would still remain but I would have control over turning off some items like the social media hub..?

If you've done it already, could you point me as to where I can start or which rom is the most stable for the Galaxy note?

For Gingerbread ROMs RocketROM always treated me well, that said the new ICS ROM (Chinese leak) is extremely good and very stable.

In terms of Rooting the device - all you do is flash a kernel with Root access to the device. CFRoot is the main one, his kernels are completely stock apart from granting Root access, installing a custom recovery, and installing Superuser (the apps that grants other Root apps Root privileges). Apart from those changes nothing else about the device will change, for better or worse.

If you're new to all this stuff make sure to do plenty of background reading so you know what you're up to. I have some good guides on Root, backing up Rooted devices and so forth at my blog (link in my sig).

Hey thanks for the response...I actually didn't know the difference between rooting and flashing a rom, I thought they were the same singular process. Yes, I did some quick research and found that RocketROMs were pretty good. When you flash a rom, does it wipe out all of the data so you have to rebuild everything i.e. home pages and redownload apps?

I'm just looking to make my samsung galaxy note extremely stable, fast and have the ability to turn off some annoying apps that for sure zap my battery. I already added the Gingerbread.XXLA4 patch leaked from Asia which is probably the last patch before Samsung releases Ice Cream Sandwich for the note. Right now current ICS roms that I've seen for the note disable the spen functionality which I require.

You don't have to lose all the apps and their data. Root the phone and then use Titanium Backup to backup them up with their data, then do a full wipe in recovery and flash the custom ROM, once the ROM boots up install Titanium Backup from the Market and restore all your apps and their data. Bingo bango you're back in business.

FYI: the S-Pen is working the same as always on the chinese ICS ROM.

Bro:cool:

I just moved over from the Nokia E72 to Galaxy Note and i would like to know some simple questions confusing me since last 2months i bought this Note.
1. U said battery lasts for 10hrs and what i found is it lasts for only 3 or max 4hrs even i kill all background applications using NQ Antivirus inbuilt system optimizer.
2. My note is not rooted so advice me if i have to root it for better performance and kill some inbuilt background applications (Yahoo finance, AllShare, AP Mobile news, Buddies now, Crayon Physics, S Memo, FM Radio, Gmail, Google search, Samsung Account, Samsung Apps, SNS AccountLi, SNS AccountTw, Social Hub, Youtube etc) which im not using?
3. What is best way to use it? If you help me bro i will be thankful 2 u for a long....
Thanks in advance:):):)

Im not rooted mate and Im getting good life out of mine, bought an extended one but it can't be legit as the original battery performs just aswel.

Put the active applications widget on your screen, its a widget already on the phone, this helps you know what's running that you don't need to have running.

My set up is to turn background data off and I don't use any battery preserving apps because i think it may take more battery to switch your connection on all the time, i may be wrong but so far Im not complaining.

Something definitely wrong I can get a full day with very heavy use, up to a 100 calls and with regular use 2 days with a mixture of calls, mail, internet, apps and games. My note is not rooted, International version, antivirus is no doubt taking it`s toll on battery life, as the standard apps provided by Samsung certainly dont overly drain the battery.

I'm using Avast and getting a good 20 hrs plus out of it. Not sure antivirus is needed...

Try another virus protector, set auto updates to 4 hours and email for 30 mins and you should get good battery life. 1st day will be rubbish so give it a few days to build the battery up.

Android is based on Linux, like OS X it`s not imune to viruses/malware, however in general it`s very secure requiring the user to agree to the action of installing. The weakness of course is if apps are not well policed on the "Market" or sourced from non secure means, malicious payloads can be installed with seemingly innocent apps.

I dont personally run antivirus on Android, however I am careful and research apps I want to install.
