have been eagerly awaiting the news this week of the latest soon to be released phones from HTC. Was just hoping this top end phone was going to have the amoled rather than LCD screen.

Will still get it on release date though.. was just hoping and praying that it would be a 4.7" Super Amoled.

I read a couple things that said this screen is better than Super Amoled in the sun. That is my biggest concern. I can't see a thing on my Inspire in the sun.

Amoled screens have grossly oversaturated colors. If you don't believe me take a picture with a GSII and compare the color with what your eyes see. I am very glad that this screen will be an LCD.

Very true..................they also will NOT produce full screen white! Try it.........go to google search and type the word white. Choose images and click on the first white image that comes up. It will display white across the middle of the screen..........pinch and zoom to full screen and watch it turn totally GRAY !!!!

I've owned phones with LCD, Super LCD, Amoled, Super Amoled, and Super Amoled Plus screens...I've got to say the 2 best screens that I've ever seen on a phone is pretty much a tie...The Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Note both share the title.

IMO...Amoled technology wins hands down!
While my rezound had get resolution, the screen always looked dull in my book.

The specs sound awesome on the One X, but I feel a Super Amoled screen would have made it near perfect , just my opinion!

But you haven't used a Super LCD 2 screen. So your opinion is based on speculation at this point.
I agree however that S Amoled + has alot of advantages. But at this point we can only speculate how a super LCD 2 competes.

Lifelike= desaturated when compared to the amoled screens........ I hope. Better white balance to.

LCD screens are in no way better than Amoled screens to me. HTC's screens are one of the major areas that they are getting kicked to sleep by Samsung. Well that and the horrible battery life.

I agree 100%...

HTC is going with these Super LCD 2 screens because Samsung won't sell them any Amoled's of any sort.

Those here for a while will remember the original HTC Incredible fiasco with the Amoled screen shortages...HTC was basically forced to look into screen alternatives.

HTC's S-LCD2 has an IPS panel.
It's like LG's praised 'True HD IPS-Display'.

It probably won't have blacks like an amoled screen but it will have much better color and better white balance. It's a choice really. If you want great blacks and oversaturated colors get and amoled screen. If you want more accurate colors and better white balance then an LCD screen will probably be better for you. My ideal phone would be one that has N amoled rgb screen with decent white balance and somewhat natural colors. Maybe the GSIII?

I've owned so many phones the last few years...
All the iphones 1-4s, countless Blackberries, OG Droid, Nexus1, the original Droid Inc, super LCD Inc, EVO, Droid X, Fascinate, Thunderbolt, Charge, Bionic, Droid Razr, Rezound, Galaxy Nexus, and now the Note...

Needless to say...I've seen my share of screens!

And at one point or another, some were ahead of they're time...The Original Blackberry Bold blew me away when I first got it! My how far we've come!

Best screens I've seen overal belong to Samsung...

IMO the Super Amoled plus screens are awesome!

If I had to give a top 3 for the last year...

3- iPhone 4s

2- Galaxy Nexus

1- Galaxy Note

No, and I think, HTC made a work-around because of LG's rights of the panel name.

My iPhone 4 and 4S has IPS screens and they were very legible in the sunlight. If the One X screen is half as good, I'll be happy.

Regarding the info in the articles above.

Many say that the screen is made by Samsung, in which case it would likely be a PLS panel, not IPS. Both describe specific technologies, not copyrighted marketing names.

And saying LCD vs IPS vs AMOLED is exactly like saying Chevrolet vs Corvette vs Ford.

They compare the S-LCD2 screen to the AMOLED of the One S in the verge review (about a 3rd of the way down). Certainly up close, the One X looks nicer, but I've no idea how that translates to normal viewing. My eyesight is beyond terrible so I suspect I'll be able to see very little difference.

From what the reviews have been saying, even without being AMOLED, they say the screen is gorgeous. But yeah, it's all down to what you prefer.

one thing about amoled tech that i like... is the way they can help reduce power consumption.. because the dark areas use less .. and black is totally off.
