General Guide to Prevail and Repository

Have to agree with new optimus, though i am a new member and new to rooting and pretty much everthing technical about androids and phones in general, i have found most information to be very helpful, however, its been quite confusing. I've already said on a previous post of mine that i went through like three different rooting files for my prevail before finally finding the one that worked. In my foruming experience i always thought that you check the very first post for what your looking for and then check the last post to make sure it matches up and is up to date.

you can take my rants and lazy punctuation as a newbie thing but as simple as i can say it is, finding the updated stuff that is currently in operation is difficult and confusing, in my opinion

Just got off the phone with WirelessRefill.com.
They said to use the "RTR Instant TopUp" instead of the Reboost on their website for quicker transfer of money to your account. Otherwise you have to call their 1800 number afterwards and have them transfer the money.

so im a newbie and have lots of questions naturally but there is one that bugging me now: i successfully rooted my phone yesterday and all was well and working thanks to you guys and the much needed help to push me along, but now my camera will not work. it says it cannot connect!! i noticed that when i rooted and added the mods and stuff that my camera was different and i actually liked it better...but know i have nothing. whats the next move to remedy this??

Red Laser: Scans all barcodes; most apps won’t scan as the Prevail does not have an auto focusing camera. WILL work on Prevail but has to be installed from SD card.

Not available for this device...Should be removed from OP to not confuse other Prevail users.

It appears that this is the next best option unless someone else says so...

Red laser is only unavailable in the market. The prevails fixed focus camera is the reason. It can be downloaded for an outside source and installed.

Though I have said it before, and I'll say it again, that there should be a button for "I know it is incompatible and I accept what functionality will not work, including the app not functioning at all. Install it anyways"

Thanks! Did a Google search for redlaser apk, found a link for direct download, moved to SD card, and then used ASTRO File Manager to install!

I am new to this forum and have learn a lot from it thus far. Although I found it hard to keep track of the multi-directional threads and what is/was in development, what is/was tested successfully and what is/was in operation.

I want to do my part and leverage my 18+ years experience in the IT industry and provide a detailed document(s). Before I do this is there interest and a way to add grouping information to threads? I would like to suggest breaking out the information leveraging a modified SDLC (System-Development Life Cycle) model/process. HARDWARE, OS, ROMs, - DEVELOPMENT and TESTING, OPERATIONAL. In addition TIPs, APPLICATIONS and OTHER information. The idea and model, like Kevincott's post, is to eliminate as much confusion and repetitiveness with single source structured information based on activity. This maybe hard to do a on a post but not sure and asking for your input. I am willing to develop the document(s) with the information as related to HARDWARE, OS, ROMs, DEVELOPEMET and TESTING, OPERATIONAL. TIPS (tested and validated) would be included in the OPERATIONAL section. Please let me know your thoughts. If there is interest I will provide and outline for review. Thanks and good to be part of the forum.

The point of this thread is to consolidate info that is spread out while being easy to read. Much of the info here is not my own and credit has been given to authors as I could find.

Feel free to use anything here for your own thread, sharing knowledge is the reason for forums. Looking forward to seeing your thread.

As stated earlier, the coupon codes change every month but contains the same 3% discount. You will have to constantly update this thread for the monthly coupon code. Let me know if these work for January 2012.

As for someone saying that you have to call a 1800 number to load your balance onto your account, I have yet to do so since they should be immediately calling you after placing your order for confirmation. Shortly after, you should have the purchased balance on your account.

If all else fails, there's always the option of getting a Target Redcard and using its 5% discount on anything purchased.

Just did my refill at wirelessrefill.com and went without a hitch.
Did have to do a phone confirmation sorta deal being it was 1st order.
She started to send me thru a bunch of hoops with an email, and having to
send a copy of ID or some such but then she asked me if I was ordering
from callingcardmart previously I told her yes and she seemed to drop the
whole email thing. Got my approved confirmation email shortly after and
one from Boost as well.

The 015878 code surprisingly worked, tried 01729 and it came up expired
1/31/11. Figured the higher number would be more current but apparently
not.

They also have a renewal reminder deal and if you approve the renewal
I think you get like another 5% off.

Do you want to get rid of things like Hookt and Layer, or even thinkfree office?

All that preinstalled stuff that takes up space and does nothing for 99% of of users.
You need to be rooted to remove any of that.

If you use wireless tether you need to be rooted.

There are many more reasons to root but those are the main ones people mention here.

rooting is very simple. removing apps is also simple but you need to follow the guides on which items can be safely removed.

You do NOT want to remove the wrong thing.

Check the subforum all things root for a sticky thread that has all the info you will need.

Spelling out certain abbreviations like CDMA and .apk are not going to help users if you do not have a working knowledge of wireless networks and filesystems.

If you have a working knowledge, spelling out would be useless so I am putting out the Prevail is is CDMA (not UMTS, GSM, IDEN, etc...) without being verbose.

I think code division multiple access (CDMA) confuses new users as they dont know code division multiple access from Universal Mobile Telecommunications System and what the difference means.
