Or you could just run jokers cm9 builds on xda. I've been running beta 0.1.0 and its really good. Beta 0.2.0 is out but I prefer 0.1.[Ics] cm9 beta with camera CDMA/GSM/UMTS/HSDPA/WCDMA/roaming 2/22/12 - xda-developers

I guess I shouldn't say I don't want ICS until I see it how it looks and works on our phone. Frankly, I like my MoPho just the way it is. I haven't rooted it, but I have customized it to my liking. Also, I've played around with a co-worker's Galaxy Nexus and I didn't like the OS. However, that could just take some time getting use to it. Lastly, and maybe most importantly, I don't want to lose any screen real estate due to ICS's on screen buttons. Now, I may be off or misinformed in my pre-judgements, but I'd be happy waiting until my next phone; one that was built with 4.0 or higher in mind.

Pictures of Blur on ICS have been released for a while - looks quite nice, you won't lose any Blur customizations that you've come to like.

And you will not lose any screen real estate to soft keys on the screen, devices that have capacitive buttons (or physical buttons for that matter) will not have the on-screen buttons with ICS.

Frankly, I like my MoPho just the way it is.

Amen, brother. After previously suffering with a horrendous phone that was then rendered completely unusable by the "improvement" of getting 2.2 forced onto it, I want my phone left alone. The Photon works beautifully for how I use it and I'd rather not have that ruined. Don't fix that what ain't broke...

just flashed 0.3.1 yesterday, after going from ROCKO 1.1.1
I have to say, the OS is soooo much cleaner, well integrated, much more responsive, sensitive, and fluid. When underclocking to 800Mhz, this thing runs more fluid then it ever did on stock gingerbread. When underclocking to 1Ghz, this thing flies (yes, underclocking).
Given the way this thing runs, for a locked, unrooted user, i'd probably upgrade to ICS in a heartbeat, although I'm sure blur will lag the heck out of the system. The only thing is that ICS, i feel, is made for screens that are slightly wider in aspect ratio. I find that it can seem a bit cramped, but the way CM9 has been running for me, i'm never going back to gingerbread.

@drexappeal, after looking at the leaks, i don't think i'll be going back to stock and installing the moto version of ICS...that's just fugly...

As far as the stock moto UI, I didn't like that thing since day 1 and have been using Launcher Pro Plus ever since (just as I did on my EVO), so I totally agree about that.

As of right now, unless fede releases the "revamped" Launcher Pro Plus prior to the ICS update, I'm planning on switching to Go Launcher Ex, since it's the closest thing to Launcher Pro Plus that I can get.

Thing is, with all the great stories about what people have managed to accomplish with their rooted Photon's, that's still an option for me...if Motorola's Photon 2 (or whatever they come out with for Sprint) isn't quite what I'm expecting.

Right now, in order for me to really consider taking my final "gold premiere" upgrade this July (before the new 18 month upgrade policy kicks in), there are certain specifics that would make me consider upgrading: 1) ICS (I'd assume that it'd have ICS) 2) Bigger screen, while keeping the overall dimensions the same (or close to the current Photon), 3) Quad-core processor (just falls in line with all the other quad-core phones that are being rumored).

As much as I love the kickstand, if they were able to make the phone even thinner than it currently is, but also come out with a kickstand case that bumped up the overall size to the same as the current phone, I wouldn't mind losing the integrated kickstand. If the case ends up making the phone bulkier than the current dimensions, that's definitely a losing situation for me.

Overall, getting back to the main point of this thread, I'm more looking forward to ICS, than the potential negatives that people have mentioned.

One of the concerns is, ICS is built to eliminate the need for the soft keys at the bottom of the phone and having those integrated into the OS. Train of thought for some is that, those that have a phone that wasn't built with ICS as the 1st OS, will lose some of the screen real estate because of that functionality. I'm not convinced that this will be the case, but we won't really know until the official release.

Well, it still remains to be seen. The rooted ICS roms that are currently available may not be exactly as designed for the Photon, so we won't know until the update comes out in 3rd Qtr.

A friend of mine rooted and loaded CM9 on my phone. There are some glitches that are near deal killers, specifically the camera and video camera are about useless.

Overall though, CM9 on this thing is awesome. I really hope that Sprint allows 4.0 to roll.

Perhaps it's time we start asking SPRINT directly,since MOTOROLA has given the Q3 2012 window for release of ICS.

Lest any backtracking from MOTOROLA,the ball is in SPRINT'S court now.

It actually doesn't concern me at all, at least not with regards to ICS.

Only reason I'd imagine that the Photon is on the End-of-Life list is due to it being a Wimax 4G phone, which Sprint has already stated that they'll no longer be making Wimax 4G phones going forward. Any 4G phones released from this point on are going to have LTE antenna. And that's another thing that's actually pushing me towards taking my 1 last "Premier Gold" upgrade. The great thing is, the HTC EVO One (if the rumors of a kickstand and external slot for SD are correct) is looking dandy. Hopefully, whatever the Photon 2 looks like (or whatever successor Sprint/Motorola come up with), I'll have a good choice between the 2. If Motorola's new phone on Sprint doesn't quite suit my needs the way that the HTC Evo One is looking, I may just go back to my HTC roots. And possibly, maybe, Sprint/Motorola has something even dandier cooked up to replace the MoPho (at least, I can only hope).

And if you're wondering why neither the EVO 3D nor the ET4G isn't on the list, that's because both phones sold extremely well. The MoPho didn't get anywhere near the same amount of publicity and while it got rave reviews from those that decided to take the chance on it, they didn't put much into marketing the phone w/ exception to marketing it with their business products.

I rooted the phone shortly after I got it, but did not unlock the bootloader because I did not want to booger 4G.

For me it wasn't really an issue. Ubuntop outweighs having 4G and ICS offers me nothing while stealing 1.3GB of storage. For those that don't know, official ICS kills webtop and ubuntop. It also abandons the webtop partition. You don't get that 1.3GB back that the current webtop uses.
