Hey guys,
I see alot of threads asking about "i have no 3g", Well i didnt want to hijack someone's post, so i figured to post a new thread, But back to my story, Like i was about to say, I Live in Rhode Island, Which according to metro's Coverage map, gets Best Coverage, (See Map Below) But i still get no 3G on my samsung admire, Granted, my admire bricked out on me the other day, so i sent it into samsung for them to fix, But anyways, My Question is, If i force my phone into "Evdo" Mode, Will i get 3g? I saw this in another thread,
"dial *#*#4636#*#* and change to evdo"

Let me know, Thanks!

That map is based on input from users, and looking at Woonsocket, RI, either there's no coverage at all, or nobody there is using Sensorly to map coverages.

And as you said, shawnb1003, 1x is NOT equal to 3G. Not that this will help you any, but I never expect in-store reps to know anything about their product or infrastructure. The coverage maps from Metro won't tell you if you have 3G coverage or not, but they will tell you if you have 4G coverage, which I've *heard* is a good indicator that there should also be 3G coverage in those areas. I do get 3G coverage in places in the DFW area, which also has 4G coverage, but I wouldn't bet on 3G coverage outside of such areas.

Yes, That i understand, haha, I currently have MetroPCS as my Cell Phone Provider, and Myself am a PagePlus Dealer Meaning that i process Activations, Port in Activations, ESN Changes, Bill Pay's, And Sometimes Sales. However , like you said, In store reps dont really know the coverage, and the Corporate ones are just complete ******s as they dont know jack. Im 16 And i know ALOT more then them about this shit as i have been dealing with this crap since i was 8 years old. At age 9, I build a PC From the ground up.

MetroPCS coverage map says there's 4G all around my city, like literally, no holes, yet I've never gotten 3G anywhere around town :( Makes me want to invest in a 4G phone...

That right there is because MetroPCS is trying to Take the higher step to compete with the other carriers (eg: verizon, ATT, Sprint, t-mobile), As 3G is considered to me "Old tech" and 4g is the "new tech"
So for metro, They are most likely dropping the 3G setup Additions, and just setting up 4G as like i said above, 4G is the new technology.

For me, My city has NO 3G or 4G, But Where i usually am at 1AM,
Does have 4G (Pawtucket, RI) Which is good enough for me, So im about to invest in either a) A 4G MetroPCS Phone, or B) Go to T-Mobile 4G 50$/mo Plan (Unlimited Everything)

Not sure what i want to do.

as of 2013 there is not officially 3g data speeds running off metro pcs in the rhode island area .. 1X IS NOT 3G speeds ,, 3g has its own icon that says 3g..if u are running off it.. although the phones settings may be set to run off 1x or 3g and lte .. the only service you are able to get high data speeds is 4g lte with metro over here.. however flordia and a few others there metro is running off 3g and there phones down there will show 3g icons.(( download speedtest off android market))) and run a test with your 4g data turned off... it will show u upload and download speeds of 127 download and around 147 upload.. download speed is capped at 127 no matter where u are in rhode island,, those speeds are not 3g at all. people are paying good money for their high end phones and once their 4g is used up they are riding on cdma speeds and didn't relize this before they got the phone.. (their plans are cheap, which is good).. however most people dont know this, your running off of 1x speed. (unless you speed test another metro phone.. befre u buy their service and have a knowlege of data speed) then u would know.. after u use your 4g data, your on 1x.. i use metro pcs ,,but im not a huge video and web user . my stuff is pretty basic so the service is enough for my cell phone when im on the road.. when i am home i run off wi fi all the time or ill jump on hotspots if i need it. so if u want to watch videos ect on the road i suggest either a big 4g plan with metro.(my first choice) or at least a 3g carrier until metro upgrades their network for 3g in Rhode Island.
