Root Is there One-Click-Root?

Is there a One-Click Root APK or some sort for this phone? I tried looking through the sticky threads, but found nothing. It looks like a lot of work to root this phone.

Yes, there is. (It used to be a lot of work to root the phone, but it is no longer.) This is the app: https://market.android.com/details?...1bGwsMSwxLDEsIm5ldC5hbmRpcmMuZXJpc3Jvb3RlciJd

1. Install the app on the phone
2. Run the app and read the screen carefully - the developer wishes for you to make a contribution to a youth group of your choice, I believe, as payment for the app
3. Shut the phone off
4. Turn it back on
5. Turn it back off

(It's important to do all 5 steps. Many people skip step 4 and 5 and wonder why it does not work. In order for the root exploit to take, the phone must be restarted normally before you try to start custom recovery.)

Now you can start the phone in Amon_RA custom recovery by holding down the VolUp key when you reboot. Go to the Backup/Restore menu and Nand backup your phone. When that is done, press VolDn to return the main menu.

From here, you have a couple of choices:

a. Flash a zip from SD card and choose the rootme.zip file that was installed onto your SD card by the 1-click root app, which will give the stock ROM the SU utility and the ability to run root-only apps.

b. Flash a custom ROM to replace the stock ROM with something better. By installing xtrSENSE, you can have a close-to-stock ROM that is overclocked and also gives more space for apps. Or, you can install a Gingerbread ROM like CondemnedSoul's CM7 ROM. They are here:

[ROM][GPL][3/15/2011] xtrSENSE5.0.1 [cache2cache,apps2sd,oc,jit]-HTC Sense - xda-developers
[ROM] 11/19/11 Condemned CM 7.1 V21 (2.3.7) Splashed with ICS - xda-developers

And, starting with this fourth post in this thread, you can find basic instructions for installing either of these ROMs.

Wow, an amazing answer, bud. That was the most fantastic answer I've ever gotten from these forums. If I could, I'd definitely give you more than one 'thanks.'

I just watched an old version of "All About Android" on TWiT and this site was mentioned:

Unrevoked Set your Phone Free

The Eris is not shown specifically, but as I dug into their wiki (public:unrevoked3 [RootWiki]) it mentioned the Eris is supported as the DesireC.

I used this to root my Eris last night and it went rather smoothly.

Be warned: Unrevoked installs the Clockwork Recovery, and that has been known to leave Erises bricked. You may really want to install Amon-RA recovery instead, as soon as possible.

See this thread: http://androidforums.com/eris-all-t...2-custom-recovery-trackball-not-required.html

You'd be Scenario 3 or possibly Scenario 5.

We now have methods to recover from this, but it's pretty complicated and a lot more work than installing Amon_RA now.

I agree with doogald. Better to do it now than have problems later.

Hi all,

I am a noob or just have lost my marbles. I have an Eris that I rooted about a year ago and finally settled on xtrSense. I love it. I have never had a problem 1 with it. My wife however, has an Eris that is stock OTA 2.1 and is always complaining. She finally agreed to let me root her phone and I can't for the life of me remember how I did it. I have browsed through the forum and found several explanations on how to, etc. but they are all most confusing to me. Like I said, maybe I've just gone stupid in the last year. Hmm. Anyway, I have the zip file for xtr 5.0.1. That's what I've been running since it came out and love it for everyday!

When I rooted my phone, it seemed so simple! Can anyone give me a straight forward answer and step by step on how to root her little Eris. It's a perfect phone for us, especially with xtr!

Thanks to all the hard working folks who take the time to post helpful hints on here. :D

Just look up to the second post in this thread - the steps to root are all there.

http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/465802-there-one-click-root.html#post3671567

As for installing xtrROM, again - follow the steps in this fourth post in this thread, just substituting xtrROM for PlainJane that is mentioned in that thread.

It's really quite simple to do. Best of luck.
