Be polite in Hero

Hey there I cant wait for the Sense 2.1 update for Hero in March. Do you think it will include the Be Polite feature? You know the one which automatically lowers the ringtone volume when you pick it up?

Hmmm... Ive posted 2 questions in this forum and so far got zero answers/suggestions... not even from the senior members.. not trying to be critical but.. yknow...

Anyways, I found an app in Market called "Flip n Shake" and it mimics the Be Polite feature (silent when phone turned upside down) but no lower ringtone volume when picked up.. hope it helps somebody

Well i actually have no clue, but the htc legend and desire which are both coming out soon both have it and will be running 2.1 so id assume our 2.1 update would have it too. Yea i read good things about the flip n shake but i havent used it yet.

Sorry but I see no point in posting and saying "I don't know". And how would we know what Hero choose to put onto their new ROM until they issue it? We do not have crystal balls.

i thought it was only me, so every body has the same problem with not being able to silence your phone when receiving a txt messages like you can in all other phones?

It's the setting from a leaked version of the 2.1 HTC Eris ROM (which was leaked last night and ported to the hero in hours ).

I don't see why there'd be any difference between the two phones when the official releases come out.

cool.. btw, what else can you see from the new fw?? full screen weather animations on the home screen?? speech recognition on the keyboard?? live wallpapers??

Yeah it's definitely usable. Very fast (unlike all the other 2.1 + sense roms I tried), and pretty much everything works. I think MMS messages need fixing, which will get done tomorrow now, but that's the only major problem. (And I've never in my life used MMS so I don't think it's a problem for me )

New stuff.... there's tweaks to a lot of the HTC interfaces like the calender, the clock, the camera and a lot of new icons in the settings. There are no full screen weather animations or live wallpapers. We do have the new picture album though and that's pretty sweet. There's voice dialing, and there's a Text-To-Speech menu in the settings. There's also the nav launcher (which you're meant to use whilst driving).

But the best part is that we have access to all the 1.6 and above apps now (and google buzz works properly).

Bear in mind that nobody's made any major changes to the leaked ROM yet, so I don't doubt you'll have the option for things like live wallpapers soon. I'm looking forward to a MoDaCo version .

thanks for the info.. i think i'll wait for the official update tbh. was hoping it was more like nexus one but with sense ui on top.. i saw weather animations in the hands-on video of legend and desire, hoping it'll come to hero too.. as for google nav, does it work in the UK?

you know how in most phones, if you get an incoming call or txt, when your ringtone goes on, to silence it you usually have to press any button on it, and it will immediately silence

well with my hero, that is not the case, the ringtone plays all the way through before it is silenced, pressing buttons won't silence it

yeah but it takes forever

first i have to unlock the phone, which is pretty laggy when receiving calls and txt's, then i have to hold down the volume button, and wait for the volume to go down one level at a time cause it does not silence immediately

i really hope HTC does something about that, i love this phone for everything but an actual cell phones purpose, which is calls and txt's =/

btw, the reason why it bothers me is mainly because i go to school and even though i usually silence my phone, there are times when i completely forget,

hmmm im guessing you have a very long ringtone for sms so you cant cancel it halfway through?

well, Im using Timeriffic which is free in Market; it allows you to automatically silent your phone so in your case, maybe silent from 9am Mon-Fri. Hope it helps

Maybe this is just on my Hero, but if I tap the volume down button once whilst the call is incoming - even if it's locked it will silence the ringer?

I just tested this right now. Pushing the volume down rocker when a call comes in will instantly silence the ring tone, even when locked.

You have that video marked as private....

Do you have a rooted phone? I do not, which might be the reason.
