Gorilla Glass...Screen Protector?

Just got my Maxx and activated it...do I need a screen protector or because it has Gorilla Glass its not necessary?

I have had mine for two weeks now and don't see a need for one... unless your some one that drops your phone a lot then I don't think you will need it.

Also nyg010 if you want some reviews for the Maxx go to YouTube but I would look at the from phone dog they do a nice job with their reviews

Have my Ifonia A501 for 3 months now, without screen protector. And the screen looks like just out of the box.

I've slid my Gorilla Glass Droid X across pavement. I scratched the housing pretty bad but the glass is perfect. I wouldn't bother with a screen protector.

I tend to drop mine ALOT! On my last phone original droid, I installed a ZAGG invishield and loved it. SO... I used my new maxx for about 2 weeks before installing another ZAGG on it and I really did it for the feel when I slide my finger, not the protection.. but I am sure it will help.

if you drop your phone alot i dont think that you need just a screen protecter you need a otter box

I have a tendency to keep my phone in my jeans pocket on the weekends and to prevent my keys from scuffing the screen, just in case both itesm end up in the same pocket, I use the OEM one from Verizon wireless precut for the Razr, it's a 3 pack for $15, part# MOT9123PKSP.

I love it, it's actually the first display protector I liked in the last 6+ years of trying various ones on different cell phones.

This one does not take away from the screen colors, applies easy (no bubbles), you don't need to wet the screen to apply it, the edges are not lifting up.

I get a lot of second looks from people I show the phone to, they keep asking me if that's a screen protector or how the glass is etched, once I tell them it's a protector, they raise their eye brows in dis-belief.

There is also no feel diffence to me, fingers slide as good and the response feel the same.

Keys wont scratch the glass. I love going into cell phone stores and taking my keys and scratching the crap out of my screen and watch them cringe. Glass > Key metal. Then when I show them no scratches, they are dumbfounded.

Thanks for the heads up and you just gave me an idea, instead of testing on my own phone, I'll take a trip to the local VZ store, which has a good amount of phones on their display, all connected for testing and I'll see if the salepeople let me test one of them with my keys!

Keys were my main reason to have the shield.

Funny story for me, I got my maxx the other day after switching from the nexus, the guy was like, we recommend screen protectors and blah blah. I asked why he was pushing them, he said because most people scratch their phones by putting them in there pockets and keys and change will scratch the screen. I said oh really, peeled off the plastic off my new phones screen and went to town with my keys, he gasp...lol. When there wasnt a scratch on it, he then proceded to tell me how keys are made different and that some keys WILL scratch the screen. I looked at him and said, just sell me the phone.

I think its all about hardness. I don't think typical objects will scratch the screen. But, that does not mean the glass will not break. I think a case is > screen protector. My previous phone had G glass and I put a protector on it after two years to Ward off prints more than anything. Also note that although there were no real scratches over the course of 2 years, imperfections did exsist. This was apparent when trying to put on the screen protector. So, my current case came with a protector and I installed it ASAP just to keep the screen fresh.

Get the screen protector.my phone slid off a couch this am on a concrete floor and shattered. 3 weeks old and i need a new phone.insurance company said the maxx is back ordered. Don't risk it.i hate screen protectors but iwill be getting the otteebox commuter. Case also

Screen protector wouldn't have helped, case would have. I keep a case on mine, no screen protector.

Hmm.. i think 15-20 bucks for a quality protector aint a bad investment when you consider the cost of the replacement. I like the zagg because its a bit more tactile and my big ole thumbs dont slide off and get some other key.

I have read claims that sand will scratch gorilla glass. I work in excavation, and would rather not test the theory.... I have a boxwave protector on mine. Not that I love the skin, but scratches on a touch screen tick me off!

I had the zagg on my OG DROID for 9 of it's 28 months of service. The remaining time, it was nekid. I am still amazed at the great shape the glass is in. No scratches at all. Personally, I like the feel and response without anything on.

I did try the cheap Verizon screen protector. Removed it after one day.

After I realized the thing just needs to last 20 months, I became less concerned about sacrificing personal preference for longevity.

I can see if the phone will be in a harsh environment how some may feel its best to add protection.

I definitely agree with your arguments. Much better to have scratches on a $2-20 screen protector than a $300 phone. I don't care what kind of glass it uses, it's not impervious. Anyone remember all the hoopla apple put out when the iPhone 4 came out, how the glass they used was supposed to be indestructible. See how that turned out? Don't put too much stock into marketing buzz. Remember, the key's only in your pocket for a minute, the scratches last a lifetime.

That being said I don't use a screen protector, and I never used one on my Droid Incredible.

I only use a screen protector because it stays cleaner, therefore it's easier to see in the sunlight.

Screen protectors aren't needed for most situations any more. I have seen tests that a screen protector can actually help the screen not shatter when dropped. Also small abrasives such as sand can wreak havoc on a screen. If you are accident prone I would recommend a full case and screen protector. If you work with or around sand and such that seems to make its way into your pocket, I would also recommend the same(the sand could scratch other areas of the phone not just the screen. But if you just want to play it safe I would just buy one of those cheap x5 or x10 packs off ebay for like $2.

I will say that I have the Steinheil Ultra Crystal on mine...yesterday while getting my nails done, the tech accidentally spilled chemical on the phone...cleaned it off immediately. The phone and the screen protector are pristine... the VZW case is a mess, the chemical started to melt it (but the kickstand still works).... so, if you are in the market for a screen protector, I heartily endorse the Steinheil.
