Help What's stored on the SIM card?

What is actually stored on the SIM card (the white memory card which fits inside the phone underneath the battery).

My understanding is it includes your contacts, but what other information is there?

Also, what does it take to get the information off of the SIM card and transfer it to another phone (not necessarily Samsung or MetroPCS)? MetroPCS tells me that they can transfer the information to my extra microSD card for $15, but that's only worthwhile if I can access the information from a new phone.

Any thoughts?

If you want to put your contacts on the SD card just go to Contacts and hit the Menu key> Import/Export> Export to SD card. Then all you have to do is use that SD card in you new phone or trasfer it to your computer like you would any other file off your SD card and then put it onto your new phones SD card, -or- you could just trasfer them using your email client. As far as what other info is on the "SIM" im sure others have more info for you on that but here is a link to a VERY OLD Thread that you can read and get some info from but dont reply to it because of how old it is :D

This would be great *if* my phone was still functional, but it's been damaged so I can't just transfer the data from the SIM to the microSD card.

I do have a backup of my phone (contacts, programs, most settings) from about a month ago. Since then I believe I've only added one contact and it's easy enough to get that phone number again.

The key question is whether or not there's any additional information on the SIM card (SMS, settings, etc.) which are worth recovering and in particular whether or not they can be read from a non-Samsung non-MetroPCS phone (I've got access to an LG Optimus V). If there is data worth recovering and if I can read the data from the microSD card into the new phone then it's worth paying the $15 fee. But if it's only the contacts then it isn't worth that much effort.
