new thread for ics official update release

I've noticed a few bugs since I updated earlier today...

Sometimes when typing in the pin code on the unlock screen some of the dots disappear.

My phone froze for about 10 seconds before I got control back. But I think this is to do with ADW Launcher EX not liking ICS.

And the slide right to call seems to take ages to register, if at all.

Apart from the above, it's soooo slick.

I'll live with this until the UK firmware comes available on ODIN...

Apologies if I answer my own question here, but have only just realised the significance (I think) of how I acquired my phone. It was bought on Ebay, SIM free, in October, brand new, with the statement that it could be sourced from anywhere. It came with a Euro power adapter, so was never a UK model. I believe it is a German model, as my firmware is PDA:KI4 / PHONE:KI1 / CSC:KH1 (DBT).

I am coming to the conclusion that this means that I will not receive an update when the UK ICS rolls out next week. Is that correct? If so, I think I will be looking to Odin...

No, as the updates are all hosted (afaik) on Samsung's own servers. Kies compares the device ID with Samsung's database and should serve up the relevant update regardless of location or current network.

If so, I think I will be looking to Odin...

Wait until there's confirmation of the update rolling out to German stock handsets, which I think DBT indicates. It's definitely a valid CSC code but doesn't apply to any network I can find, and at least one German forum post referred to it as "unlocked". The danger of using Odin and a non-official firmware is that, should anything go wrong, Samsung may well not honour the warranty.

I don't know if this is the same announcement some of you are talking about or not. Samsung e-mailed this to me.
I have a question please. Can anybody tell me what the biggest advantage to 4.0 is?
I mean, this phone already does everything I can think of to ask it to do very fast and flawlessly.
And it just seems like ICS has many bugs to work out (according to most Nexus owners).
And the apps. Most of the apps in the market aren't set up for ICS.

Is it fair to say that the people most waiting for this upgrade are mostly techies that can really take advantage of some new features that ICS has? From what I've read, it only adds a few new functions, nothing I need, I don't think.
Obviously I'm no techie, quite the opposite. So maybe there's one obvious reason to update as soon as we can that I don't understand?
I'm sure more and more programs will need ICS to function as time goes by.
Maybe I'm just afraid I'll mess my phone up some how if I try to update it.
Anyway, sorry to ramble on like this. If anybody has a few minutes to comment on this for me, I'de really appreciate it.
Thank you
