Hey, just ordered my evo shift. Boo on sprint for upgrade fee, but eh. Couple questions.

Should I let the battery kill itself upon first usage? So don't charge it, just use the battery life it has out of the box until it dies? Or does it matter?

Any recommended out of the box procedures? Plan on rooting it later on if that matters.

Thanks, look forward to being a part of the forums.

I would suggest letting the phone use what ever battery life it has out of the box, before plugging it in. To get the best life from your new battery follow simple charging habits like letting the phone charge or discharge completely before plugging or unplugging it. Dont leave it on your charger during use, and dont leave it on the charger for hours after its charged completely. These simple steps will ensure a longer life from your battery.

If you plan on rooting your phone, start doing your homework. Look at dates of posts about the rooting method you'll be using. Look for most recent posts, and when your ready to flash that good old custom ROM, look at dates and READ the posts in the ROMs threads. A good measure is to read the first and last 5-10 pages of a given thread. You can have a lot more fun if you do your homework before you start a process, as this will prepare you for the things you will encounter, like long waits during procedures, or unusual screens or behaviors. Also remember that your new ROM is a work in progress and will contain bugs, and the DEVS are constantly changing and updating their work, so your input is good.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Sprint has already announced end of life on this phone. A similar thing happened with my old phone and I was stuck for over a year with no updates or support and I would hate to see somebody stuck for 2 years. My wife has this phone for over a year now and its good but not great. If I were you I would use your exchange period and get an Epic 4g Touch/Galaxy S2 (This is my current phone) or a different phone from HTC that is getting Android 4.0 Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich Updates

Appreciate the concern, but couple reasons why i choose the shift. Primary being I dislike new phone designs that focus on screen size over functionality which also kills batteries. 2nd being the full keyboard and the other phone that has a keyboard offered by sprint is a samsung, and i do not trust samsung devices anymore.

Also, this can be said about all cell phones. Eventually they will be left in the dust.

You should like your Shift,it really is a workhorse, switched from 3D to shift due to the Bluetooth issues with 3D's and signal strength, wife is using hers for hotspot and the 4g is great when you can get it. Have fun with it,happy camper here.

the Shift is really a great phone, haven't had issues with bluetooth, not like the 3D,used an upgrade to downgrade sort of speaking.
had 3D and the bluetooth quality and the signal really blew, changed to Shift and happy camper. you will be amazed,It really is ashamed that it is not going to be in the line up anymore. its like a Hero on steroids. That was another workhorse. Mine is stock, no issues to speak of.
We also use wifes Shift as hotspot.
Also turn off the background on the sync side and that will improve battery life.
4G is great if you live or work in area that has it,will drain battery quick.Play with it and you will be happy camper.
