Help Motorola Triumph Replacement Phone Experiences

I called VM had to speak to a supervisor the regular person tried to give me a runaround with troubleshooting. I had the issues of no signal and phone randomly shutting off. Supervisor said they will send out a replacement sent me back to the other call center rep, who told me that they will only send the phone front I have to keep everything else and would take 3 to 5 days. It was overnighted and was brand new phone in a box with everything in it. So I now have two batteries :) however if I put the battery from the first one in the phone will randomly shut off. Very interesting. Sorry about rambling first post but love the new phone I now have 3 to 4 bars signal strength

Can some of you report on the common issues on MTs and whether they're still on the newer ones and what the manufacturer date of your new one is?

Ok!

Since i got the new one i noticed:
Screen flickers and sometimes is white.
soft keys dont always work
DUST UNDER SCREEN
Froyo 2.2
Screen doesnt always notice touch

Thats just what i noticed by getting a new phone

I havnt used the new one yet besides setting it up, it also has no date under the batt door like my old one which is, 12/11

Well preliminary testing, seems the same as my old triumph (which was great) except it will charge correctly on multiple chargers, and has none of the "dust" under the screen. GPS took just under one minute for the first lock and is almost instant after that (all tries have been within a day of the cold lock, I will test it more in a few days). It has the issues with the back button not always registering. Haven't noticed any other issues.
The date on the label under the battery is 12/13.

I never had many of the issues that others reported on my old one, it's date was 06/11 and was bought within a couple weeks of release.

SEP 27 2011 is on my battery cover.

The only issue I have is GPS takes over a minute, sometimes two to lock on to start navigation. This was on stock and CM7 Reloaded.

By the way, to people who are getting dust under their screens, I highly suggest the Rocketfish TPU case (and not just because I work at Best Buy :p) I have NEVER had dust under my phone, and I believe it's because I threw this on the second I got my phone and the second I got my replacement.

I've had 12 total replacements. Yes, 12. I kept having so many problems. After the seventh one, they told me that they'd send me a class A, which is the best of the classes if you didnt know, but I'd get them in the mail and they would all say class C. Every single one of them had a problem, some better and some worse.

I called them once more after sending the problem phones back and they admitted to me they were sending me class C phones, not class A. I asked to talk to a supervisor and he authorized them to FINALLY send me a class A because they kept lying. They finally did. This is my current phone and the only problem it has is the screen flickering. But wow, was it hard to get a working phone. The supervisor told me that he had no idea why they were telling me they'd send a class A, but sent me C instead. Problems with all were .....

- White screen/screen washout and flicker
-GPS not locking no matter how long it was left on.
-Very bad buzzing in ear piece
-Locking up and rebooting
-Charger port not working(it was twisted sideways when I got it)
-Dead pixels all over the screen.
-Camera click when focusing
-Extremely bad signal. (I've had enough to notice that some triumphs actually do get better signal than others. And yes, I've looked at dBm and not signal bars. It varied a lot)
-Light leaking.

I've had mostly all the problems people mentioned. lol. Every phone I had was tested very thoroughly. I tested with stock, Tickers CM7, and MIUI. Some problems went away. However, each phone that had the screen flicker problem stayed with whatever ROM I tested. My current one has that and it bothers me so much. Haven't seen a white screen yet though.

I got a replacement last week. It was not new, unfortunately. It looks more like it fell behind a shelf for the past 6 months. I need some help to confirm a potentially peculiar property of my replacement. Namely, does it have the wrong processor?

Well first off to also report, WiFi doesn't work and the touch screen is finicky. I plan on making a call for those soon. I'm running stock now.

The replacement phone is reporting it has the Build ID:
Version: M7630A-ABBQMAZM-2.0.30
MSM: 2.2B1
Compiled: Apr 29 2011 13:18:23
Released: Dec 08 2010 23:00:00 (Prior to MT release!)
MOB_P_REV: 6
Slot Cycle Index: 2
SCM: 00111010

Even simply connecting to QPST Configuration 2.7.0.366 lists it as "Phone: SURF-MSM7630".

The MSM7630 is architecturally identical to the MSM8655 -which is what I thought was supposed to be in this thing-- so is it possible that it's the right chip but incorrectly showing?

If you can, please confirm what CPU your phone is reporting. You can't use a front-end software like Z-DeviceTest because I believe is will read what the kernel/system says which could be identical for the two chips.

If VM is give out replacements that are MSM7630, I would be peeved, but you know what? I could not find any Motorola or VM official spec sheet specifying a chip. They just all say 1GHz and the 7630 can be clocked to that.

Thoughts?

I know for a fact that mine has a msm8655 since I have taken it apart. I can connect it to QPST later to see what QPST says it is though.

Received my 2nd replacement this week. First phone stopped taking a charge, Im assuming the port broke on the charger. The latest phone was a refurb, it came with dust under the screen that I dealt with for a couple months but this weekend, the screen would not turn on, the phone's red light would turn on when charging, but screen would not turn on. I received a brand new phone this time. So now I have extra back cover, battery, charger and 2gb microsd. All this is great, but I just don't have high expectations of this phone lasting more than 6 months and by that time I will be out of the VM warranty period as I purchased my phone within a couple weeks of initial release around July of 2010

Any root / ROM users return their phone? Did you return it after having restored the original ROM / unrooting it?

Any problems with VM if you didn't restore it back to stock settings?

After the 8th or so phone, i got tired of having to restore it just for them to send me another broken one, so I stopped. Returned at least 4 phones with cyan on it. They don't care, they just put a new image on them and don't even look at em.

Received 2nd replacement phone..used it for about an hour, it went to sleep and would not wake up unless i removed battery and restarted phone.(sleep of death )....called VM and they can't send me another until they get the original phone back...i'm quickly losing my patience, this will be the third replacement phone in less than a week, seems like i'm trading one problem for another.

Just received a brand spankin new phone, still in box, for my wife's replacement. Sweet.I love the fact that they outsource their customer service, it makes it easier to confuse them. My wife's touch screen wasn't working, so I told them I wanted another phone for her... They proceeded to tell me to pull out the battery... like always. So I stopped them there and told them my wife is mute and that's the reason I am calling on her behalf, and that she uses her phone to text and that is the only way she can communicate, so I need a new one. Bam! 2 minutes later a new phone is in the mail, and in her hands in 2 days. P.S. She isn't mute, I just wanted to pressure them into the outcome that I was headed for anyways. Sorry if I offended anybody, but it worked.

If I don't have warranty will they still replace my MT for free ? I've been having charging issues

Why wouldn't you have a warranty? Anyone who buys a motorola triumph has a year warranty when they purchase. They released in june? july? I can't remember but it hasn't been a year yet, so of course you have a warranty. And yup, they'll replace it for free. You just gotta call em and tell them you need a replacement sent to you, or to transfer you over to the replacement department. Some might do it right away, others might try to "troubleshoot" your phone. If they say take out the battery, don't really do it and just say you did. It makes the process a whole lot faster.

Has anyone gotten a Triumph with a cracked screen replaced? Not the original one, but a replacement one? I called and they said they wouldn't replace my phone because it was already a replacement phone. Basically said I'd have to buy a new phone. But I've heard of others getting theirs replaced?
It's still usable though, it's basically just two lines of cracks that aren't really noticeable with the screen on. My first one never cracked, I had it for 6+ months and dropped it waaay too many times.
Also, if I had an entirely separate issue with the phone (say, GPS), could I still replace it even though it has cracks? :/
