My story...
I have 3 kids and only married to the mother of my youngest...but we were married for 5 years before the pregnancy. The day she found out she was pregnant she packed her stuff and left. That was 6 years ago. And after trying for 6 months to reconcile...I realized it was over and chose to move on. At the time I was more interested in finding someone to date, a rebound of sorts, and having no luck. Mind, heart and soul searching later I realized that I needed to concentrate on ME and my kids, and not on finding someone else....so I gave up. No dates, no trying to find someone, resigned to being a single dad with custody of kids ages 12, 5 and newborn....and so I moved us. I moved 60 miles away from family and friends and started over. Just me and kids....found a new job, home, and just kept to myself for over a year....
Until my birthday, that "fateful day"....I asked a couple of coworkers to go have a happy hour drink after work. The only person who could go was the one girl that I secretly liked, but thought she was a little too normal for me....we had drinks, talked and had a walk on the beach....called her the next night...and for 3 months we talked on the phone every night, had more walks on the beach, and got to know each other....all outside of work. But at work...just co workers...well we have now been dating for 3.5 years, living together for 3 years, engaged for about a year, getting married in September....and we still work in the same department, (we work in an office with cubes...) and literally work in cubes right next to each other....and love each other more everyday.
I am sorry, you are right....yup, that is a key phrase. But for us, telling and showing our love for each other, regardless of what else is going on in our lives...work, kids, custody(she was there for me when my ex wife tried to take my youngest from me) and all the little things....I feel like I gave up and would never find the right person for me.....and she has shown me everyday....there is one person out there for each of us. Call them a soul mate or your best friend...but she and I fit together like we are supposed to. Balance in life and love is key.
Will let you all know in 10 years or so how it is still working!!!!

Good Morning GNexers! Thanks to everyone for the TV talk the other day. We decided on the Sharp 70 inch Aquos Quattron: Full 1080p resolution with 8 million dots, Ultra Brilliant LED system, 240 Refresh rate, Quad Pixel Plus (Red, Blue, Green and Yellow; most tv's don't have yellow), built in wifi, 6,000,000:1 contrast ratio. It is an amazing set! Pictures are so vivid and so dynamic, it almost looks 3D. We were able to look around locally (lol, that's 45 miles away) and once we decided on this one we were able to get a local store to give it to us for the best price, even over the internet. Our Nexie was great here for showing the salesman all the prices on this bad boy . It just fit in the bed of our truck and home we brought it. Now getting it up the stairs , a series of parallellagrams, to the third story was shall we say...fun? But we got it there and with a few adjustments to the entertainment wall cabinet size, it was up and running in no time. We did see a few Plasma's (the largest being 65) for about 600 less, but we were worried about the reflections off the screen because the set is in our great room with lots of windows and lots of glare off the water. So thanks again friends for all your input, yall's opinions were more valuable than the ones I read in TV forums!

Man, sounds like quite the set you got! It's definitely not something we need to invest in anytime soon. Our 3 year old 32" LG with a crappy Insignia blu-ray/surround set is plenty adequate for our tiny apartment.
When we get a bigger place, though, I'd love to have something that big!

WOW! I can't help but wonder what she expected to happen? Was she just gonna hire a stand-in for when you DID meet? Or have plastic surgery to match the picture?? That would scar me for life, dude. Glad you survived...and look....you ended up meeting your perfect match anyway. It all works out in the end.

That was my thought! I don't understand why people would do that.I can understand putting up the best picture of yourself as a profile picture but to pretend to be someone completely different is insane.

Yeah, it was sad. I ran a background check on her a few months later, out of curiosity, and it wasn't pretty. Lots of stuff for fraud and things. I don't think she was playing me in order to steal, she probably just posted some pictures of a different girl in order to flirt with guys, and before she knew it, we'd gotten pretty deep and she probably just rode the train until it derailed.

As far as my wife is concerned, I met her when I was visiting Nicaragua for two months with some friends. She was there volunteering and building some housing for poor people. I tried flirting with her at first, but she was dating someone at the time and put a stop to that right away, lol.

Over the next few weeks we eventually settled into an easy friendship. Eventually she moved on to Ecuador and I came back home, but we kept in touch with goofy emails about once a week and just a general friendship. We never spoke on the phone. We both dated a few other people, and lost touch. A couple of years after we met, I went back to Nicaragua because a friend of ours was going to marry a girl he met in Granada (a BEAUTIFUL city), and she was at the wedding! We reconnected, danced all night, and the rest, as they say, is history. Now we return to Nicaragua to volunteer and visit with friends about once a year.

Not a psycho story or a love epic, but we like it.

I went back to Nicaragua because a friend of ours was going to marry a girl he met in Granada (a BEAUTIFUL city), and she was at the wedding! We reconnected, danced all night, and the rest, as they say, is history. Now we return to Nicaragua to volunteer and visit with friends about once a year.

Not a psycho story or a love epic, but we like it.

Maybe not a love EPIC, but certainly counts for a pure ROMANCE!

Seriously though, what a neat story! Sometimes it takes two people in the right place AND the right time!

Thanks for sharing that, and for volunteering! It's something I miss doing myself (used to do HFH in college and @ work)!

Then last night, a pair of new shoes for my youngest arrived, my wife took them out of the box, set them on the nightstand in the kids room, and gave him a bath. By the time she got out, a shoe was missing, and sure enough, destroyed. Less than an hour after taking it out of the box, and never worn. $100 worth of shoes in 5 days. (Don't get me started on my wife's insistence on buying $50 pairs of shoes for young children... )

The only solution we've come up with is putting our shoes on a shelf in the foyer closet (we just laid down some wallpaper strips on the shelf in case shoes are dirty, which we change out if they get too bad).

Another dog of ours is a thief (not a chewer). He even has a stash of his loot, which he hides under our bed. Every couple months we will go in there and clean it out, last time there was over 60 different items (mostly small toys, socks, food wrappers, etc.). He will just start over, grabbing little things and building his stash again.

Ha ha! That is hilarious. Our older dog will do something similar, but she chooses to "hide" things in a corner of the house and kick imaginary dirt over it. Then she'll watch it for a while to make sure it stays there and then walks away.

One thing that is really funny, though, is she'll take a treat from us but won't eat it right away. She will put it somewhere, like at the end of a hallway, and then hide around the corner. When she hears the other dog walk up to it, she'll spring on her and attack. I think she only relishes treats if it goes hand in hand with scaring the crap out of the other dog.

We had a cat before that was similar. He'd jump up on top of the fridge and knock things off of it on top of the dogs while they ate below.

My dog loves paper in all its forms (except newspapers). She will eat tissues, paper towels, toilet paper, regular pieces of paper and has eaten two scrapbooking projects of mine. Cardboard boxes are not safe either.

And bread. She will steal entire loaves if given the chance.

I always get a little concerned if they actually eat anything they shouldn't. One of ours loves to pull the stuffing from toys, but she doesn't swallow it, although I always have to watch her.
