I didn't see a thread for Google Navigation. I tested it on the Eris and it's fantastic. I stopped by the VZW store and picked up the Body Glove case for the Eris which works with the Moto Droid Mount/Case combo. The downside is that the Moto Droid mount/case combo is $30 and the Body Glove for the Eris is also $30. If you have a Moto Droid you get both for $30. With the 25% discount I get through my company, it came to $45+tax, which isn't bad at all.

It works like a charm for mounting the Eris like any GPS and it destroys my Tom Tom One 3rd Generation, which I got back in 2007. I haven't tried to voice search for it yet.

I find it kinda weird people like Google Maps the most. Remember the days when you just printed out MapQuest directions? Or cars now come standard with Sat Nav? I just don't see the big deal. I understand not everyone has a car with Nav, but this kills your battery, doesn't it? The whole GPS thing? With a car charger, fine, but still...you gotta like something more than Google Maps.

I don't think a majority of people are using the Google Nav to replace a dedicated PND.

It is VERY nice though to be out somewhere, need directions or your location and be able to pull it up on your phone.

I've found myself doing it more that I would have thought...

Mine was stolen out of my car about a year ago, so I no longer have a dedicated Nav device. Personally I like the fact that the maps are always up to date on my phone. There has been a lot of construction in the metro area here and having the maps updated on regular basis really helps.

The navigation feature was one of the biggest selling points for the Droid (2.0) over the Eris (1.5) when they first came out. Of course people like it ;)

Not to mention, my phone is MUCH smaller than my Garmin, and it cost 1/4 of the price. And best of all, it is more current and doesn't require you to buy map updates.

I'm having trouble with mine. I need to keep installing the Speech Synthesis Data Installer. Everytime I do it loads but when I go back into google maps it says i need to install Speech Synthesis Data Installer again.

Is there another Speech app I can download?

I was out driving around at midnight last night playing with this. It works really well. My girlfriend won't let me update her phone yet, I get to find the bugs first , but she was really excited about the nav when I was showing it to her.

Am I the only one that caught this? OTD has a girlfriend? Can we start a new request forum just for pics of you guys? ;)

But on a serious note, I agree with your better half, Im waiting for you guys to find all the bugs as well before upgrading or waiting for OTA but I really want the Nav feature since my new car no longer has it.

bump for Google Nav Beta!

Used it a few times to test. It's slow to load, but works great afterwards, the only thing I dont like, which is definitely minor is the traffic layer. The Gas station layer, and the restaurants are GREAT! you can load them up hitting, Menu, then layers, select whateve layer you want, and it pops up as you drive. You can click on the restaurant, it asks you if you want to call them, you dial by clicking, order your food, hang up, goes right back to the directions, swing by to pick up your food, it rerouts your directions, and your on the road again.... SWEET!

Now I want to hack the voice and get Homer Simpson, or Snoop dog.. lol hmmm...

I agree, im making (asking) my wife hold off on updating her phone when the OTA comes out, so we can steal the download link, and get the "official" version. Hopefully the official version will have some of the "leak" kinks ironed out. I'll post as soon as I get that OTA download link. hopefully it lets use leakers install it manually. I see no reason why it wont....

Are you saying you have inside access to this stuff? Or did I miss understand this.

droid, don't get too excited. It's just a bunch of "OTD, please be my girlfriend," with the response, "OTD could be a really ugly, fat chick with an attractive avatar...get a life," with the chime in from OTD, "I'm not into guys...and btw, I'm not fat or ugly."

You've missed some threads too, but that is the content of a lot of them. :D
