ZTE warp and Icecream sandwich...

So i just got a ZTE warp and im not expecting first day support when icecream sandwich is released update wise to "older" phones(because well, i have boost/prepaid? we are not a priority but what i am wondering are these few questions

Seeing as the Samsung(Prevail) got the update to 2.3 , How likely is it that the ZTE warp will get the ICS update officialy? As i know its in the phone developers hands and not boosts and well, i dont know ZTE so i dont know how much faith i should have in them update wise?

I just watched the video for ICS on cnet and it looks like its ALOT more taxing on the hardware than say 2.3(with all the extra bells and whistles) will the ZTE warp be able to handle it from a basic functioning stanpoint(no lag on basic activities such as texting/web browsing etc) using the 1ghz proc and 512 of ram?

I sure it would. They are working on a Galaxy S port of ICS. The galaxy S has piratically the same specs as our Warp.

Honestly, I really don't see ICS coming to the 'Warp' or any other no-contract phones anytime soon, if at all. I currently have the LG OpV (with a 'Warp' on the way) and I have been waiting for that to be updated to Gingerbread for almost a year now.

To take it a step further, I don't see Boost, VM, or any of the other no-contract companies offering a ICS phone anytime in the near future. That is, at least, a year or more away, IMO.

That sounds about right. Personally, I'm predicting the beginning of 2013 for prepaid (no-contract) phones.

I don't know. It might be sooner than late 2012. The Warp is a newer phone. Originally it was supposed to be used by Sprint until it was delegated to Boost. The phone is essentially a newer phone that can handle 4.0. It really is up to ZTE to see this through. The best thing to do is have all the Warp owners contact ZTE concerning this. I mean it couldn't hurt. Just sayin'

I asked about Ice creme sandwich, so it seems like we need to contact boost about this. Someone with the warp must do this since you have to have a phone account to get any customer service..

You can contact them until the cows come home, but ics coming to boost or any other prepaid service anytime soon (or if at all) just ain't gonna happen.

I'm with Kamau. I wouldn't be holding my breath.

It'll show up on a future phone offering from Boost, but their "game' is to get the subscriber(ie: you) to purchase newer ones as they're released. As such, I just don't see Boost themselves pushing ICS to our Warps.

ZTE seems upfront and cool in how they treat their phones. ICS may, I say may, come from them in the form of an update.

Well, I got bored and decided to give ZTE customer support a call inquiring about ICS and after working thru some language barriers with the rep I was told that "The ZTE Warp does not support Android 4.1. It only supports Android 2.2. That is what it shipped with. There will be no upgrade to 4.1" Given how painful and long the whole Q&A was I'm not too sure how credible her answer was. I guess I'll just keep waiting and guessing.

I believe virgin mobile has a HTC phone that is running ICS, no its not rumors its actually true i forgot the release date but i think its the end of the phone or early next month.
Boost mobile has been getting some great phones recently and with acceptable prices, the samsung transform ultra and the ZTE Warp are the big ones, then we got the replenish. Virgin mobile has been getting sh*t phones lately compared to what boost is getting so i guess its fair that they get ICS first. ZTE doesnt have many phones there not well known in the USA. They are still tryin to get their name out there so i honestly wouldnt be surprised if the Warp got ICS. Its all a money making bussiness, Think about it if you were a new guy trying to get your name out there your gonna do the best am i right? You wanna be known not a loser and i think thats where ZTE is heading in the US.
Now im not saying that the Warp is deffinitely gonna see ICS next week or whatever but i wouldnt be surprised if they did. Another reason why i wouldnt be surprised is because if you look at motorola and Samsung they have hundreds of phones out and when you compare them to ZTE they only have a couple, atleast in the US they do. Anyway motorola and samsung arnt gonna update there hundreds of phone even if they have more than good enough specs to run it, as ZTE only have a couple. The warp is obviously capable of running ICS, but ZTE makes the deision, then ask the carrier if they want it or not.

Yeah the One V has a 1Ghz processor and 512MB of RAM, which are in the Warp's neighborhood. Chances are that it would be the very same Snapdragon MSM8655 chipset that resides in the Warp as well (just speculation on my part). It seems that all of these new pre-paid 1Ghz proc. phones have the MSM8655, since its very reliable.

The One V hasn't been confirmed yet, but Sprint and HTC have an April 4th event to talk about (probably) the One series, so it might be announced officially then.

While it's possible the Warp could get ICS, wouldn't the Marquee get it first probably? It's really more of the flagship phone of Boost right now.

I believe they will go ahead and do that too, its all a money making business. They want people to buy the best android phones "warp" & "Ultra" then soon they will release a new phone with ICS for customer like us who are crazy and want the new OS version.

It is 100% possible, but very unlikely.

XDA devs already have working ports of ICS for the original LG Optimus One (but hasn't yet been ported to the US variants which are SIGHTLY different in the way of display drivers) which only has a 600mhz processor w Adreno 205 GPU and 512 ram, and about 300mb user-accessable memory the betas seem to run fine (I own the ATT gophone LG Thrive)

1ghz Qualcomm MSM8655 Snapdragon
Adreno 205, 480 x 800 resolution
4 GB storage, 512 MB RAM

but we simply don't have the dev support on this forum
the awesome part is that there are HTC phones getting ICS with these specs (Thunderbolt, Evo Design 4G, and Droid Incredible 2). So technically if we could get the ICS source code, and then get someone to rebuild it and port HTC-made drivers then we could get a full working port, we already have CWM to test flash. We just need help.
