Telus Galaxy S2 (T989D) Ultimate Root and Optimization Guide with Steps

Hey Blue1k

I have real problem :( .. I exactly do what you warn about the rebooting after new ROM, I used "MIUI_v1.7.29_XXKG6.zip" ROM with my T989D phone, but after the steps you wrote my phone late on rebooting I felt that time that is something happened in my mobile - as a natural reaction I removed the battery and till now my phone is dead .. It is not booting at all !.. Even when I charge it is not responding

What should I do to solve this problem?

God bless you

I'm sorry to tell you this but you bricked your phone. You installed a rom for the International Galaxy S2 (i9100) NOT the T989. That is why it is not working. Flashing something not made for your phone will cause it to brick. Hope you have warranty :(

No, the phone won't be unlocked. Unfortunately the unlocking tool used on the i9100 doesn't work on our model. Only way I know of is to pay for a sim unlock. :(

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I'm so screwed. I was so relying on that Samsung Galaxy S Unlock app to unlock this phone for me. It worked for my android i9100, but I will be selling that one.

Oh well do you know which is the cheapest and most reliable way to unlock the phone? Which is a trusted site online to pay them for the unlock code?

I have found a root of my problem why I couldn't flash from SD. It was formatting issue. Now that I have flashed my phone with Mr.X ROM I must say that it solved my only complain I had about this phone- battery life. Before I was always looking for a usb port to charge up my phone or I was risking of being without a phone. Currently I can go for couple of days no problem!!!

Thanks for the fantastic guide :)

Hi - I am t-mobile usa customer but have the telus S2 but have a few questions.

1. I just need to follow steps 1 to 13 to root, right?

2. I don't need to mess around with the modem install/etc.?

3. My main purpose of rooting would be to get the T-mobile Wifi Calling app, does the Mr. X rom have that included, anyone know?

Thanks!

No Mr.X rom does not have Wi-Fi calling. Install the latest Juggernaut rom after rooting and you will have wifi calling :)

Pm me if you need any help with this. :)

I installed Juggernaut 5.0 but have run into an Issue with Wifi Calling.

The icon is red and it says Error: ER05 "Invalid SIM card"

Important Notice: Your SIM card needs to be updated for Wi-Fi calling service compatibility.

Note: I had a HTC International Sensation before and had no issue with Wifi calling with the same SIM

help would be appreciated

I just bought a Telus phone and paid to unlock it to Bell. I've spent three days searching for a guide like yours and I finally found yours!! Yes!!! As a complete and total newbie to this stuff, your guide worked like a charm, you had ALL the steps in there, screenshots to reassure, wow!!!!! :D

Hats off to you and I'm definitely donating to you in a minute. None of the other guides on how to root your phone explained it as well as you did and I got lost on ALL of them. :(

Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D

EDIT: Is there a way to choose something other than the digital clock as an unlock screen?

The T989D is a phone assigned to Telus. The T989 is the phone from TMobile.

You'd have to do a bunch of reading to see what ROMs do what and what people say about them and make your own decision. There isn't a "best" ROM for this phone. It's personal taste.

Thanks for your respond myminpins,

my story:

I bought (telus t989d phone) and i crashed then fixed with somebody by (tmobil t989).

Now my mobile model number is: t989.
My baseban version is: t989dtlkj3.

When i want to change the ROM which one i should to find out t989 or t989d?
