Help Help please! Broken power button on Nexus One and can't get phone on :( :(

The power button on my Nexus One is officially dead. I downloaded some apps that let's me wake the phone, but the battery died and I can't get it on. Read a lot of posts saying to use the battery trick... the phone starts to power up when I do get it to work, and it sticks on the animated X screen. It just loops over and over... Any suggestions as to how I can just get past that loop to use my precious phone??

My power button is currently dead too. I was about to suggest the battery trick but it seems like you have other problems. When this phones dies I'm just going to get the Galaxy Nexus. The only thing you can do at this point is to send it in for repairs. Sorry!

Call HTC. I had my power button go out last year, well out of warranty. HTC US repaired it for free as it's a known problem with the phone. The process was a little hincky, took about 10 days and several calls to HTC, but end result was a working phone at no $$ cost to me.

I now use Lock Widget to lock my phone, and just use the power button to wake it up. Hopefully that will be good for a couple more years' work until I buy a replacement.

Forgot to mention, it was free because I hadn't rooted or otherwise modified my phone. Apparently if I had done that, I'd have to pay for the repairs.

i bought 2 Nexus one and my daughter one broke about 1 week after warranty end and mine about 2 months after. i'm very desapointed we pay big $$$ for those phone and HTC doesn't repair for free for a problem that is a manufature issue! well i will never buy a HTC phone anymore.

No secrets. They told me the same thing, that they'd have to look at it to be sure - e.g. no water damage, I hadn't rooted it, etc. - but assuming there wasn't some other factor to blame, they didn't charge me anything. This is assuming it's just the power button. They know they mis-designed the power button. If it's broken some other way, you're out of luck.

So like I said, it took a few calls. Pretty clear their N1 service system was well-designed initially but is suffering from bit-rot and some of the cracks are showing. So it wasn't as smooth a process as it should have been, but end result was a working phone for free.

Since then I've unlocked my phone and flashed it with Cyanogenmod 7.1. It sounds like that would have made me have to pay for the power button repair, but I'm glad I did. My phone on CM7 is what it should have been to begin with, just wish I'd done it sooner.
