UPDATE: 06/14/10
I'm back on the forums, FINALLY! I finally got fed-up with dealing with Verizon and their rediculas prices. I had 2 phones on my 700 Family Share plan and it was nearly $160 with NO extra features. Just phone. Not internet, no texts, basic NON3G phone.. Looked into other carrirers and found Sprint... What is that? It's HUGE!... It's the EVO 4G. I'M THERE! I am spending the same each month as I was with verizon, with a Smartphone plan. I love it!

Fallow me on the HTC EVO 4G section! http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/

IMPORTANT UPDATE: 04/03/10
I had to make a choice between my Droid Eris and purchasing a vehicle for the future. Of course, the vehicle won; so I no longer have the Eris *pout*. I hope everyone has fun with the future updates and conversations regarding the Eris and 2.x updates. I thank everyone that has helped me out and the 50+ who thanked for this Thread.

SAVING APPLICATIONS

Is there a way to transfer the file via USB or does the SD card HAVE to be in the computer (I don't have one of those microSD adapters and don't want to buy one).

You can transfer though USB(Cut and paste recommended) but you have to make sure it is formatted using the phone software istelf.

And big thanks smacky, you did a great job writing this out.

Go ahead and request this to be stickied. I don't know how you could have dumbed-down the directions any more.... and that's a good thing. :)

I work in Fast Food and a Majority of my employees are kids... so dumbing instructions to fit their tiny-ass brains comes second nature. lol!

Plus there isn't any point in our case making it so hard to understand that you turn your phone into a paperweight. It's a $99 phone. Thats an expensive brick. lol

Does this method alleviate the low signal issues?

I just did a straight up install though I later did the *228 thing. Have the same issues that most have reported but the signal issue is the real bummer. I have a replacement phone in hand (vibrator failed) and put 2.1 on the old to try it out but if the signal issue is inherent I won't be upgrading the new phone.

Thanks in advance!

Do you really need to do the *228 thing twice, if at all? It worked just fine on mine without.

I recommend it to make sure it fully takes to the phone. That way you don't have a big of a chance of causing a problem before/during/after upgrade.

you should add in a spot mentioning where you don't take credit or responsability for the actions that may be caused by following procedure ;)

don't want anybody gettin crazy on ya now

just a heads up ya know

Lawsuit for what? Someone from China leaking out a device, and someone in the States figuring out how to us it.. and not making a profit from it? lol Unlikely, but better safe than sorry! :p

That's why I'd say to not to cut corners when it comes to an unfinished update. Low signal shound't be an issue unless you just can't get a signal.

Mine did lose signal streangth, but not too much to effect me. The official release should correct this.

Well I upgraded shortly after the leak was announced...before all the nifty tips and such were published lol.

Signal is a major issue. I'm getting significantly lower signal -- 1 or no bars on 3G with frequent drops to 1x -- in places where I typically get 5 full bars of 3G. There's obviously something going on. Just need to figure out if it was an install problem or a(nother) flaw in the ROM itself.

I think I'll try a fresh install following these destructions n see if there's an improvement. If not, well damn...more waiting on 2.1 for me. I've already gotten used to a lot of 2.1 so going back will not be easy lol.

Thanks again! :)

This may be a dumb question but, when the Verizon version rolls out how will I get the update?

When Verizon official releases the OTA for the Eris, it'll be just like a regular update. The phone will download the update, and prompt you that you have a new update. Then, you'll install it.

Now here is the kicker that may **** us in the end. If the versions listed in the leak and the official update are the same, thoes of us that installed the leak, may not get the update if all the version, serial and rom numbers match. It may think we already have it, and not install it. So installing the leak is like a double edged sword. Though, one of the forum memebers (i don't remember of the top of my head who) said she downloaded a leaked update to one of her other android based phones, and when the official OTA update came out, she got it with no problem.

Thanks for the info Matlock, great stuff. I keep hearing about more than one version of the 2.1 Leak for Eris. Is there a way to know which one I got when I installed it last week?

There are only two that were released by the HTC employee in China. A main Rom and a patched version. The patched version is the one I recommend using, and the one I listed. it has less problems with its stability on the Eris than the main version. As far as multiple versions.. there may be. If somone has the knowledge and skill, and time, there may be modified versions floating around. I know people are working on adapting the Eris leak to the Hero.
