Am I missing something? Isn't the Desire almost identical to N1 except that it wears the Sense UI and it doesn't have the noise cancellation mic. It wouldn't make any sense at all for VZW to offer this phone since N1 is supposedly coming yesterday (or something).

I think I'm spending way too much time on this thread.

AT&T and possibly T-Mobile are getting the Desire. One has the N1 and the other has a compatible version of the N1 that has gone through FCC approval. If these two carriers get both, why couldn't Verizon? Don't forget the optical trackpad vs trackball and hard buttons vs capacitive buttons along the bottom. Also, the Desire is said to have HD capabilities in video recording that will be available in future software updates. I'd say there's enough to differentiate the two.

If I had to guess, I don't think Apple wouldn't announce anything at CTIA, but rather on their own stage, at their own developer's conference, in their own city where they have control. Funny how the 1984 Super Bowl ad was about Apple being the sledgehammer that defies Big Brother, and now...they are Big Brother.

While I'm playing with my Ouija board, Apple would bother because this way, they could get you to buy two instead of one. Remember when the first iphone came out? 3G was just starting to gain momentum around the country and that phone didn't work on 3G. The one next year did, and does anyone know of someone who bought the original iphone and the 3G? If there's a way to get a consumer to buy the same thing twice, who wouldn't exploit that?

In a way, this is sort of what's happening a little with the Android fragmentation debate as of late. Entelligence: Will Android fragmentation destroy the platform? -- Engadget
Since this is the Incredible thread, let's think about that for an example. Maybe someone bought the Droid or Eris within the last few months. That's nice, but now, how about a phone more powerful than either? And we'll take the UI from the little one and use the same screen size as the one from all those commercials? Great! We all buy that one, and then four months later we hear about the NEXT VZW Android wet dream. 4,3" screen, full HD, dual-core processor, 6 GB RAM, 3D Holigraphic UI, Lightsaber, and it makes a killer Ruben for you when you need to eat :D. A bit much, I know, but the point is, Apple, HTC, Google, Motorola, Verizon, At&t, Sprint, T-Mobile, etc... none of them want us to be happy for too long; just happy enough to throw more money their way every time they release something new.

Whenever the Incredible gets released (or whatever they end up calling it) I think that it will be good enough with respects to hardware and 2.1 that it has the strong possibility of remaining on the higher tier for a good while, but only time will tell when all of the next crop of large screen, snapdragon and beyond, super AMOLED, with more and more advanced versions of Android handsets come into our hands.

This makes sense. First and foremost, these are business people. They are always going to try to top their last product in hopes of getting more people to buy more things. After all, we are a generation of technology and convenience. If they can continue to meet those demands better and better with more products and people are still wanting and buying them...

Just curious, would the fact that the Legend and the Incredible sharing the same battery put any implications that it MIGHT be a mid-level phone?(as opposed to the N1's 1400mAh) Not saying it is, as i'm sure it isnt that big of a deal.. just throwing ideas around.

Okay, I'm far from a battery expert, and I can't remember where I saw it (looking for a link), but I seem to recall that CDMA phones are inherently more power efficient than GSM phones (something to do with the radio operating at 1.25GHz rather than 5GHz). If that's true, then I think the answer to your question is: not necessarily.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the difference between 1300mAh and 1400mAh is not staggering. Maybe the fact that Incredible is CDMA and N1 is GSM means that Incredible can get similar performance out of a 1300mAh battery to the N1 with a 1400mAh battery.

Can anyone with some more knowledge about these batteries weigh in on this?

Actually, I believe you have it backwards. GSM lasts MUCH longer on standby than CDMA. A CDMA phone uses more power by trying to boost a weak signal. In the right environment (my school:(), a CDMA phone barely makes it through the school day, even with very little use.

Keep in mind you have two options to remove the DRM. You can pay a small fee per song (you shouldn't have to re-purchase), or you can actually find software that will do it for free. You're looking for anything that will convert from Apple's m4p format to, well, whatever you want (like mp3). I still haven't gotten around to doing this, though I only have a handful of purchased songs. Most I downloaded years ago (you know what I'm talking about ;)), or just imported from CDs.

It may have already been noted, and it's tedious if you have a ton of music, but you can burn an audio cd on a RW disc, and then reimport it as mp3s. Then erase and do it again... It was a practical option for me because I bought very little music from itunes...

If thats the case, then a smaller battery on the Incredible than the N1 = not good news for us!

Obviously, environmental variables can cause different results, as can different model phones (comparing a GSM Blackberry with a CDMA Omnia, for example). I'm still looking for the link, but I'm pretty sure that if you compare a similarly spec'd CDMA and GSM devices, all with similar signal reception, you will find that CDMA uses less power.

Edit: Of course, I'm talking about transmit power; any phone, whether CDMA or GSM, that is stuck looking for a signal/fighting with a weak signal most of the time will have a battery life that is substantially shorter than intended by the manufacturer.

Those are good points and I do agree with you to an extent, but until a VZW capable iPhone is released I ain't believing *hit lol. You forgot 1 factor.. The Stevie Han*jobs factor. I honestly think he feels like dropping a big duece right on VZW (since they turned him down the first time and whatnot). Until he feels Apple "needs" to open up to other carriers in the US he is going to wait. Apple wants 1 phone that works worldwide. They have that. Making a CDMA iPhone wouldn't work in Europe without a dual-mode chip or a separate GSM chip. That isn't in any of the current iPhones. The next logical time to add that would be with a re-design (which could be this summer). So we will see if that arrives with the next generation (re-designed iPhone). I will be surprised if Apple does it though. I think if Apple is going to do it, they will do it when LTE is deployed as much as VZWs 3g.

BUT VZW will have LTE out and expanded more before ATT so hmmm did I just *hit on myself? Maybe so haha

I DO NOT think Apple is going to wait for 2-3 years to release an LTE iPhone, soo hmm the saga continues....

Well I don't think it will be too bad really, the N1 has a 1400 mAh battery and the Incredible looks to have a 1300 mAh battery not sure how much of a difference that would mean, the HD2 has a 1250 mAh battery and that has a 4.3" screen and a snapdragon processor.

Hypothetical statement. I refering to the post I quoted. Don't mind me. haha

Ok, guys - I guess my question to you is what's to keep the Incredible's 1300mAh battery from being as sh*tty as the Eris' 1300mAh one is? Of everything I have come across regarding the Eris, the biggest single complaint by far is that damn battery. And with the Incredible having a bigger, brighter more power-hungry screen and a faster processor what's to keep it from meeting the same fate?

Ok people talk me out of this. I am very close to giving in and just getting a droid through amazonwireless for $49. The main reason is $$$. I plan on spending some major bucks for an ipad for our family (please don't flame!). The more I think about the incredible and the nexus one, I know they are gonna probably be $200 or more after a 2yr contract. I currently use an env2 and never had a smartphone before, so a droid would be a step up. I have been reading through the posts in the droid forums about rooting and the custom roms and its pretty exciting to me. I know if I do wait and get the latest and greatest, it won't be long until something better comes along anyway. Shouldn't the droid be able to run anything that the incredible/nexus one can in the foreseeable future? I need help... my head hurts

Hell, $49 is a kick-ass price for the Droid no matter how ya slice it. And if it didn't have that stupid, useless QWERTY slide-out keyboard, I'd have gotten it myself! But if that doesn't deter you and you're the primary name on your VZW account and have the ability to upgrade in a year - I say go for it, buddy! :)

Light Reading Mobile - 4G/LTE - LTE Watch: Verizon Promises Big Footprint - Telecom News Analysis

Ready for more Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone rumors? We know we are... Well, here's the latest: Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) is going to use the LTE chipset from startup Beceem Communications Inc. for the iPhone 4G, which was expected to be ready in the second quarter of 2011, delaying the launch of the mythical beast until, ooh, at least the third quarter. Bwahahahahahahahaha. Design cycles? Yeah, we've heard of them.

Agree with Montana Man. I had the Storm (1), got a droid from craigslist and will probably sell it to get the N1 or Incredible only for the form factor BUT, if your comfortqable with the Droid, it should fill ALL you needs. I can't really seeing the N1 or Incredible do anything appreciably different than the Droid, especially after 2.1 is available on the Droid.

I look at my Droid and say to myself that this really does do everyhting and more, that I would want it to

Can't find any info on Beceem's website regarding backwards compatibility with CDMA. Not good. I think LTE is inherently UMTS backward compatible because it's based off of UMTS. I wonder if Apple ever intends to support EVDO or if the day the iPhone comes to Verizon, you'll only be able to use it on the 4G network, meaning you better hope Verizon builds out fast. Oh well. Don't care. :)

That's what I'm hoping will not happen. Even the Droid has a 1400mAh battery IIRC

Guys, I don't mean to offend anyone, but can we please keep the iPhone chatter to another thread? Possibly making a thread in the Verizon forum instead of filling up this one? I just think it doesn't really pertain to the Incredible (if it does, then I apologize for making such a demand).

Is the battery seriously confined to 1300 mAh because of the FFC filing? If they change the battery does HTC have to re-file with the FCC? Are we positive about it being a 1300 mAh that's going to be in there?

This is exactly why I'd think they would want to release the Incredible before that thing gets launched.

According to this..
http://www.fcc.gov/oet/ea/presentat...se_Devices_Recent_Rule_Interpretations-SD.pdf
I'd say yes, that you do have to re-file with the FCC if you want to change the battery since you must document the rated power.

However, I don't think we have any FULL confirmation that the battery that went through the FCC is 100% positive the battery going into the Incredible. I think the model numbers do match up though, so it'd make sense.

People are tarlking like once 4G LTE comes out there will be no more 3G CDMA coverage. That will not be the case. They will roll out 4G and still support 3G for several years until basicly they phase out most everyone useing CDMA. I could see Verizon releasing the Iphone out on there 3G network then releasing a 4G Iphone in a year or two. I can see them doing that with all there phones just no one would make that big of a deal because i doubt there will be an Incredible 4G (Iphone->Iphone3G->Iphone3GS->Iphone4G?) HTC will just come out with a new phone and new name instead of the whole Iphone saga. Now Do i think the Iphone will change much? that answer is no. I doubt they will include multitasking for running simultaneous apps, prob the only thing they will do is a larger better screen and maybe make it a little more customizable UI but nothing huge thats why I am going to say Android will be better
