Bluetooth Tethering

Just thought I would put this out there. For anyone that want's to do WiFi tethering but don't want to spend the extra money a month you can use Bluetooth tethering and it works great I using a rooted Droid X and these to apps. You can find both apps on Google play, the first app that you need to install on your phone is called FoxFi. After installing that get your tablet and install PdaNet Tablet. Ok now turn your Bluetooth on your phone and your tablet, next on your phone make sure that it is set to discoverable, next on your tablet launch the Pda app and tap configure. Once it's done you should see your phone model at the top like the pic. Ok now just tap the connect button and your live on the internet. Hope this helps

I don't understand why US service providers go to so much trouble to stop people tethering and then users try to work out ways around it. Are these unlimited data plans?

Here it's simple. There is a limit on the data allowed and then whether you have 1 device or 10 doesn't matter and you can use the native Android wi-fi mobile Access Point for tethering.

Still, you guys have Netflix and Hulu which we can't get so it's only fair that you have some hassles.

At least for me with my Samsung Captivate, I just have the tethering manager frozen with Titanium so the built-in wifi hotspot works great. I just turn it on and my tablet automatically picks it up.

I use it only for browsing or when I have an app that really needs to have internet connection and I am not at a spot where I can get wifi. My church has wifi, but only for the privileged. Unfortunately it doesn't work everywhere and yesterday I needed to look up something on the other side of the building.

I think bluetooth tethering is great, but with the mobile AP availability in Android, it seems a waste of power to turn that part of the device on.

I am running:



phone- Motorola flipside, android 2.2.2, foxfi 1.81.3



tablet- acer iconia a500 android 4.0.3, pdanet tablet 2.20



I have been able to use the bluetooth connection to tether my phone to my tablet, however when I do this only some of the apps can see the connection (web browsers, facebook app etc) other apps can not (weather channel app, log me in ignition etc) I have rootded the phone, not the tablet and I have tried the wifi hot spot feature and it says wifi mode has failed on your phone please use bluetooth mode instead. How may I be able to get all apps on my tablet to see the data connection?

I use FoxFi to tether my phone to my tablet but I bypass the whole Bluetooth step. Like was said above, seems like a waste of precious power to turn that one when not necessary. The a200 finds the signal just fine as an AP.

this works fine with only 2 apps that i have figured out so far
