Hero looks sweet, but...

Don't let WinMo get your down. I had my hands on one of these yesterday and the only thing negative I have to say is that it is really big. That's the first thing you think of when you pick this phone up, is "damn, this is big". It actually has a lot of the UI implementions that the Hero has as HTC wants TouchFlo to be their "Trademark".

This really is a great phone, and probably the only phone that could get me to leave Android.

I have a HTC Diamond which like this phone has the whole TouchFLO thing. Its nice but it's really just a cover up. For a little while it seems great but you'll end up finding yourself going into the windows mobile menus which are ugly and not optimised for use with your finger at all. Hardware wise it looks like an awesome phone, if it ran Android it would be perfect.

If you get the right software you can avoid seeing virtually all the windows stuff.

I have:

Mobile shell 3.1 = interface that goes over the top, has android like screen you can flick between with a finger swipe.you can store icons and a few wigets there. Has weather, a really cool picture contact screen with crop edit mode for pictures or pictures from facebook contacts, a flashy carousel that shows all its screens. I wont go into all the features just do a google or youtube search for it, but it almost give you a new phone.

SMS - CHAT = similar to iphone sms, also has notification so it can pop up on your screen when a message comes through and you can go straight to the program.

ThumbCal = i'd say a nail friendly calendar with some cool features.

S2U = for iphone like phone locking feature.

And theres more out there, if you look around for software you can literally avoid going near the WinMo OS stuff and make your phone a cooler experience to use. People with more up to date phones have been well impressed with what my old TYTN II can do now. which proves the point, its more about software than anything else, get the right software and your userabilty of your phone changes dramatically.
