How to back up contacts

YES I am sure this question gets asked a lot of times so I am sure by now people have come up with a GREAT answer for it instead of just telling me to use google.

Trust me I have used Google. I find Apps like
Backup Contacts
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=no.uia.android.backupcontacts&hl=en

which gets bad reviews and doesn't really seem to work.

I find a guide on how to save your contacts to your SIM card but it only seems to work on the Nexus S.

So here is what I want to do:

I use a Galaxy S (i-9000) and I want to save my contacts to my SIM card or a file I can copy on my PC and copy it on other android devices OR save all my PHONE contacts to my google account if that is somehow possible because I want to buy a NEW android phone (that's why I guess Samsung's Kies with the option to back up contacts won't do the trick)

I am looking forward to any help.

Thanks a lot!

The easiest way is to backup your contacts using your google account.
To do it just go to Settings -> Accounts and Sync -> Your Email
and check Sync Contacs. Then in your new device just do the same thing to get your contacts back.

You can also do it with Kies, just connect your device in Kies, backup your contacts and then transfer them in your new device using Kies.

Sync Contacts is enabled. How can I tell those contacts are in my google account now? I thought I could find them inside gmail or something. How do I check that with my PC/where can I see a list with all my contacts to make sure it's saved somewhere?

Login here: https://www.google.com/contacts/
Your contacts will be listed there.

Another way to transfer your contacts to your Google account is to connect your device to Kies transfer your contacts there, then export your contacts either in csv or in vcard format, and then login in google contacts website and choose to import contacts from your pc.

What I needed when I got to this forum was an app that allows me to save an individual contact as a vcf on the sd card and also restore it. I found an app that saves all contacts in a single vcf or csv, but not one that can backup just one contact. Also I do not trust google to store my contacts (I am not that dumb) so syncing with gmail is out of the question.
