Google Wallet now Available through the Market**

Buried here somewhere is a video that shows EXACTLY how to do it step by step. I was having the same problems as you until I saw the video. I'm not sure if its in this thread or the other wallet thread. Shouldn't be hard to find.

I watched the video and followed the steps exactly. Like I said, it got to the end to install it like it should, but the install button was missing from above the permissions list. I'm following the steps correctly, and I've done it several times with the exact same result each time.

Hmm, interesting. Can you take a screenshot of this and post it here?

So, tried to make a purchase at McDonalds today with no luck. Could have been some error on the cashier's side as she didn't speak English all that well and it definitely confused the heck out of her when I put it up to the card/NFC reader. I'll have to try again here shortly.

Its very possible the pay pass reader at that McDonalds wasn't working. Before the security issues came up, I had used mine at one McDs and one 7-11, but at another McDs it didn't work.

Unfortunately, it seems like even though they have the pay pass, not all locations have ones that work, and they don't seem interested in maintaining them. Hopefully as NFC becomes more popular more places will not just have them but make sure they actually work.

So. I just got my Gnex this afternoon. Loving it. Haven't experienced any problems with it (knock on wood) but I know it's early. Already in love. Anyway, after finding an .apk on XDA (I'm not rooted nor unlocked yet) I installed Google Wallet. The market keeps telling me it's not up to date, but oh well....it would be IF YOU'D ALLOW ME TO UPDATE IT BIG RED! I used it once, at 7-11. I bought a six pack of beer and a couple of hotdogs. Best freeeeeee beer and hotdogs ever eaten/drank. The cashier, the people behind me, everybody was all, 'Wow! What the heck?!,'. It was great!

See, you have never seen iPhone saying "Thanks for buying our flagship phone, here is a free $10, please, have a beer (or 6) on me."

It's interesting that you posted this this morning. I was coming to say that I used mine at McDonalds for the first time last night in the drive thru. When I came to the window to pay, I handed the girl my Nexus and to say she was confused is an understatement. She asked me how to use it, I told her to hold it near the Paypass. As I said that it said "Sent!" and it was over.

Very cool.

So i just started using my nexus again after a couple of weeks, updated my apps and now Google wallet says my device is not supported because of root :(

I was getting warning at the top that says the device is not supported by my carrier and a warning about root access at one time, but not since I was able to update the app through Google play, now no warning and it works. I am rooted and on AOKP B30. Ever since the update that Google put out to fix the prepaid card issue and root access, I have not seen those warnings.
Are you able to update the app in Google play at all? Or clear the cache in Settings>apps and then go back into and try again?
Good luck!!

I didn't have the warning before today when i updated the app. It showed up in the market. I created cache and same warning. I'll try to reinstall later and see if that fixes it.

Edit: Ok that fixed it :)

Edit2: the rooted warning is back again. Does this mean that it just won't work? I almost used it this morning too but their thing didn't work haha

Edit 3: so i never tested it out because i didn't much feel like making an a of myself when the payment didnt work. Anyway, i sold my nexus and I'm just wondering if the $10 from google will still be there if i get a nexus down the line or another nfc enabled phone.

I hope you didn't sell the phone because of this because it would have worked just fine.

Just to throw this in the mix: Google Checkout has now merged with Google Wallet. I know this, because someone, somehow, tried to make an unauthorized purchase through my Google Wallet account for Google Voice Credit. However, this was very strange to me, since I had never linked any cards WITH my Wallet Account. Upon logging into my Gmail to review the notices they sent, I found that when they merged, it automatically associated the past debit cards I had used for apps, into my Wallet Account. This subsequently caused my account to go over the limit (since I had nothing IN it).

Google had even flagged my account 17 hours previous to the charge, due to a suspicious login activity, yet still allowed the charge to then be made (a little annoying, I must say). They have since refunded me the $10 charge that came out, and suspended my wallet account. It aggravates me though, because this means that I'll probably no longer purchase apps. Seriously, I had a decent password. And I purposely didn't have my card on my Wallet account. Then Google merges them, and bam.

So just curious I shouldnt be concerned that my phone is rooted? I had the unsupported device warning and I got scared and uninstalled it. I also heard that using it while rooted can destroy your "secure element", is this true?

Thank you :)
I wouldn't worry about it. Mine has been rooted the whole time I've been using Google Wallet; nothing has happened.

The "unsupported device" warning is just for Google to cover their ass, and I'm still not clear on if it refers to the root or being on Verizon since we don't officially have Wallet.

There is a security hole if your phone is rooted, but it also has to be out of your hands (someone taking advantage of this has to physically have your phone) and not be screen locked. So its still more secure than having a credit card in the wallet in your pocket.
