Only on paper. There are more WiMax markets, than LTE markets, currently.

GSM is also the "world standard" but CDMA is clearly superior.

And Verizon--largest cellphone service provider in the U.S.--is prepping their LTE network. What's your point? Personally, I'll be happy to be able to take my Verizon phone overseas in the future.

The very DISTANT future maybe, as verizon utilizes CDMA and will continue to use CDMA for VOICE CALLS for the next 5 years or so. And by then, Sprint/Clear will have dual WiMax/LTE, best of both worlds. And guess what, all it takes for LTE from WiMax is a few radio and software tweaks, and is inexpensive. So I'll be enjoying my 4G Now, my 4G handsets 1-2 years before you. Sometimes people need to look past the horizon.

That's cool... if Sprint lasts that long. Was it two or three straight years of annual losses? What am I saying? I WANT Sprint to succeed so someone can actually force Verizon to treat their customers better.

Still, do not mistake this whole "I'll get it before you." WiMax is available, but scattered in just around a few places. As for LTE, Verizon has already begun tests on it out in major areas. In theory, LTE will smoke WiMax; in practice it'll probably smoke WiMax if the new standards for WiMax aren't ratified (which should be sometime in 2010, I believe?) And you're right, WiMax can be tweaked to support LTE, but many carriers, figure heads, and entire countries have chosen to bypass the whole WiMax stage and moving directly to LTE.

Lol the Sprint doom sayers amaze me.What people dont realize is there sub-companies (prepaid) are growing the fastest in the nation. And that's exactly where this industry (should) be headed. And "theory" means squat to real world scenarios. Especially since for mobile broadband 2500Mhz is better for carrying large loads.... and 100Million people is hardly scattered.... Sprints 4G network already surpassed ATT AND Tmobiles 3G footprint, something to think about. And in "theory" , LTE will not smoke WiMax, read up on it. Wimax2 is just around the bend, and all it takes is a rather quick software tweak. When is comes down to it, it's all going to boil down to spectrum. Unless the FCC clears up more spectrum, (which they very well might) Sprint definitely has the upper hand here. And while the 700 MHZ band DOES have more range/penetration power, it carries significantly LESS load than 2500 Mhz. So towers will start to get cramped and over loaded like ATT current fiasco. Don't forget the back haul, Clear is supported by several back haul companies, including Comcast. Not that Verizons network is shabby, but Verizon FiOS isn't even available here yet, and I'm in CHICAGO.

When i head off to college I'll probably jump to the Big red if the phone is perfect for me. Currently I'm on T-mobile because verizon is so freaking Expensive.

But hey. At Least I have 2.1.1
Naa I kid. My only issue with the Droid is the keyboard quality. A little more work could have been put into that I think but oh well.
