I was asked to do this, so here ya go :D

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU SCREW YOUR PHONE UP, IT RUNS AWAY, CHEATS ON YOUR MOM OR DAD, BLOWS UP OR KISSES YOUR BOYFRIEND/GIRLFRIEND.

THESE ARE THE STEPS I USED TO PUT THIS ON MY PHONE, I DIDN’T CARE MUCH FOR IT PERSONALLY AND WENT BACK TO A GB ROM. YOUR EXPERIENCE MAY VERY, USE COMMON SENSE.

THERE ARE QUITE A FEW ICS ROMS OUT THERE, I CHOSE THIS ONE BECAUSE IT IS THE EASIEST TO INSTALL IN MY OPINION. I AM NOT GOING TO DO A GUIDE FOR EVERY ONE OF THEM.

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT’S HOLY BACK YOUR STUFF UP!!!! YOU WILL LOSE IT!!!

READ THIS WHOLE GUIDE, EVERY WORD, OVER AND OVER TILL YOU UNDERSTAND!!!

ICS 4.0.3 IS STABLE ENOUGH BUT NOT COMPLETE AND HAS BUGS, YOUR BATTERY LIFE MAY DECLINE OR IMPROVE. THIS WILL NOT GIVE YOU MORE RAM, MORE CORES OR TURN YOUR PHONE INTO AN SGSII. YOU STILL HAVE A CAPPY!!!

MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON GB BOOTLODERS, THIS ROM CAN BE FLASHED OVER ANY OTHER ROM!!!

I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS ROM, THE CREDIT GOES TO:
SGS CyanogenTeam, Onecosmic, TK-GlitchTeam, kevin@TeslaCoil, denverg, mahdispecial, djdarkknight96, rujelus22, arifhn, jrummy16, storm717, marosige, alter0001, galnet, barome, scrizz, caulton. ALL @XDA

A BIG THANKS AND CREDIT TO: vibranturk for his/her work on this ROM and posting and his/her team: Dr.House, AHM, hltt, armagann, oseyto also @XDA!!!!!!!

IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS ABOUT THE GUIDE POST THEM HERE!

FOR QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ROM OR TROUBLE WITH IT (GO HERE AND READ WHAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE EXPERIANCING AND HOW THEY ARE FIXING IT):

Now the guide:
First we need to put CWM on the phone (if you have it already, skip this step), to do that we are going to flash the corn kernel using Odin. Here are the instructions for that:

http://androidforums.com/captivate-...ng-adding-cwm-recovery-2-3-5-corn-kernel.html

If you are rooted already you can skip the rooting part of the guide. By flashing this kernel you have already installed CWM as it is part of the Kernel :)

*It has been recommended by the Dev to remove your external SD card before flashing this rom.*

Once you have CWM installed and are ready to begin, let’s download the files. Here are the links:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/47939503/CM9-captivatemtd-Glitch-V14-B3.zip

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/47939503/Doc%27s_Master_ICS_Rom_V3.1_by_VibranTurk-Cappy.zip

Once they are downloaded KEEP THEM AS .ZIP, you will want to put them on the root of the internal SD. To do that, plug your phone in to your PC and select Mass storage on the phone. Copy the files to your phone from your PC.

Not to any folders just straight to the phone. (by this I mean when you plug it in and are looking at the files on the phone from the PC, you see the folders DCIM, Android, Media, external_sd , etc.) drop it there or CWM won’t see them at all.

*If you don’t know how to move files from your PC to your phone, you have no business flashing ROMs*

*I didn’t make screen shots due to the fact that my set up and screens are different than yours because I am ROMed and I didn’t want to confuse anyone*

Once they are moved over we need to boot into CWM Recovery:
Shut the phone down completely, to enter recovery you will need to hold both volume + and - as well as the power button. When the AT&T screen comes up release the power button but Do not release the volume buttons! The corn boot screen will show next, keep holding. The screen will flash and you are now looking at the recovery screen. you can now release the volume buttons.

At the top it should read SystemCorps CwM-based Recovery v5.1.0.7

Your options are:

Reboot system now
Apply update from sdcard
Wipe data/ factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Install zip from sdcard

This first boot can take a long time!!! At the very LEAST 5 Minutes, could be more. Just wait for it (smoke a cig, drink a beer/coffee/pop/water, whatever it is you do)

Once it has booted up, let the phone sit for another 10 minutes or so, don’t touch it, just let it sit and settle!!

After that, reboot the phone again and let it boot back up and enjoy!!

If you get boot looped, pull the battery and go into recovery and redo it all again, you had a bad flash!!

If you want to flash another ROM you will have to go back to stock first, you cannot flash any ROM over this. You can go back to stock from here:

Post #3 for AT&T Post #4 for Rogers!!!! THIS IS STOCK KK4, NO ROOT AND ALL THE BLOATWARE.

Thanks for this. I've been following the ICS threads for some time now. Mostly the Slim ICS and Turks new one V5 based off AOKP 26 build. I was waiting for it to be more stable than this 3.1 version and seems to be. Im still running GB and works so far except every 7-8 days I have to reboot bc of freezing. Have you tried any of the new (I think they are more stable) ICS roms? Again, thanks for the guide.

Quick question, I know factory reset wont wipe your SD card, but will the mount storage part will????

Thanks

(I gave the same answer on the other ICS thread)

I am loving Slim with removed apps flashed back on. I haven't even thought of going to anything else, and I love to flash roms!!

Keep in mind that Slim is bare bones, straight Google nexus code that has been ported. So it is waaaaay faster than GB, Faster than any rom I have ever flashed anyway. Battery life is not bad, I had to calibrate my battery to get the most out of it for sure. I am at 78% right now, that's 8H 38M 22S on the battery, quite a few phone calls, quite a few texts, a quick game at lunch. I also have Beautiful Widgets updating every 30 Minutes and two email accounts updating every 15. So I would say not bad at all on battery. I have never had a crash on it, seems really stable. Has some minor bugs, but not a big deal to me at all.

Thanks for the response. I don't mind charging every day so I guess its good. Just a quick clarification. I am on a GB ROM with CWM :

- factory reset/wipe cache/ dalvik
- flash captivate essentials v2.8
- reboot in recovery
- flash Slim 2.8
- flash 2.8 removed apps
- reboot

would that be it? did you have to flash the wifi toggle fix?

Thanks for your help. Im leaning toward this one over turks v5 .

I charge every night regardless, so like you it isn't a deal breaker. I will say though, that I am at 56% @ 13H 41M 0S and I have almost beat the whole first set of worlds on Heaven & Hell LOL, plus some calls, texts, net surfing, email, facebook, and general forum surfing.

Your steps are right on, that shoud get ya. there is detailed install instructions here

[ROM][AOSP][4-Mar]Slim ICS[2.8] - 70MB Clean, Simple and Fast - The Google Way - xda-developers

should something go wrong.

The other thing I like about this ROM is the Dev is very helpful and doesn't like rude people in his threads. Very noob friendly (As long as you don't ask what has been answered)

I personally have nor had any trouble with the WiFi toggle. Removed apps is your call, I like the email client, youtube and gallery so I went for it.

the screen res will take some getting used to, but I really like it. You can change it though in the settings if you can't handle the small look of things.

Enjoy it, it's a great ROM!! Be sure to Thank the Dev!!

This saved my phone, I was getting atrocious battery life before flashing ICS.
Thanks again man. How do you adjust the vibration levels on this ROM?

You were getting bad battery life on Gingerbread? Performance has improved? I am deciding to flash this but so far I have no big issue with gingerbread. I "think" I recall just reading in xda that ICS roms dont have the vibration thingy. i THINK....

Yeah shortly after rooting, I started getting terrible battery life; to be fair it was probably something I did but anyhow I get much better Batterylife on ICS. I only just flashed it yesterday so I'll report back after a few days with the general consensus.
So far I quite enjoy it; I was thinking I might have to bite the bullet and buy a new phone at full price but this saved my phone.

ive got this rom running great however is there any way to change the backround color on the gmail app? My bank emails me daily and for some reason none of their text shows up its all black in the email. Im wondering if you can easily maybe revert to stock ?

I think in the xda pages for the rom there was a flashable zip to un-do the reverted colors. Check it out or maybe check if the newer versions have this disabled (I know yesterday he was up to V8 or V9).
I myself flashed Slim ICS and couldn't be happier. My phone is 10x smoother and seems faster. Everything is working fine. Coulnt be happier, completely extended my cappys life.

Second day on Android Forums and I've managed to complete two tasks (root, flash my first rom) in two days. I've been reading XDA for at least a month and still haven't gotten straight to a how to guide for beginners.

THANK YOU!!!!

Not to knock XDA at all but there is alot of forums and alot of development that had me all over the place. I was looking for Doc's ICS and was having trouble finding the main page. One google search and this thread comes up instantly, what a relief.

So I feel like I have done everything right on this rom install...

I did all of the erasing steps

Then I picked the .zip to install and then it auto restarted with the new Glitch Kernal screen. Decided that I needed to now install the rom so I choose the .zip again and it did its magic and I got to the end where it says restart and wait ten minutes and restart again. when I restart everything seems normal and I hear the ICS sound at the boot but then it just sits there with all the cubes spinning around and never completes into the actual os.....I have re-installed like 5 times and same thing....i have been spending hours on this and finally came accoss this turorial page and hoping someone can tell me what is wrong because I am so close but so frustrated ...thanks

I did have this happen to me to be stuck in the bootloop. What I would do is flash TeamHacksung first and let it reboot normally. then install the other rom you want. I first got bootloop, so I decided to flash TeamHacksung and then jumped to another one.

Followed your guide step by step. Well done I must say. I'm not sure if the CM9-captiatemtd-G zip installed on it's own buy after the Doc's Master completed, I never got a chance to scroll down and to the kernal file? It just rebooted and fired right up. When I moved the files from the pc to internal sd, I had them both highlighted and right clicked and 'send to' ..... Bad Flash? . Anyway, wanted to say thank you. Everything seems to be working fine so far. Good stuff!:)
