Hello. I am a long time iOS users and jailbreaker. I was recently given an HTC Evo 4g for a work phone and am completely confused by it.
** For reference, the device is on 2.3.5 firmware and I have a Mac.
I tried to root the device with Unrevoked, but got the error about having to new of firmware. Its suggestion was to delete some apps and try again. I don't understand what having certain apps has to do with the firmware being to new. I read a few posts about a manual way to root the device, but they all seem to be for Windows. Any hints on how to do this on a Mac? I'm assuming that it was updated OTA before I received it, if that makes a difference.
I was also looking to update the software to ICS. Can anyone suggest a good ROM for this? I would like it as stock as possible (no sense) and as many features working as possible (obviously!).
From what I read, when I update to a new ROM, the phone gets wiped. If this is the case, am I best off to wipe the phone now. Use Unrevoked (I'm thinking it wouldn't get the error since there would be no apps installed). And then upgrade to the ICS ROM?
I know Google is my friend, but there is so much info and a lot of it is pretty old, since this is an older device. Any help on this process would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!
