Root Root Evo 4G and Upgrade to ICS

Hello. I am a long time iOS users and jailbreaker. I was recently given an HTC Evo 4g for a work phone and am completely confused by it.

** For reference, the device is on 2.3.5 firmware and I have a Mac.

I tried to root the device with Unrevoked, but got the error about having to new of firmware. Its suggestion was to delete some apps and try again. I don't understand what having certain apps has to do with the firmware being to new. I read a few posts about a manual way to root the device, but they all seem to be for Windows. Any hints on how to do this on a Mac? I'm assuming that it was updated OTA before I received it, if that makes a difference.

I was also looking to update the software to ICS. Can anyone suggest a good ROM for this? I would like it as stock as possible (no sense) and as many features working as possible (obviously!).

From what I read, when I update to a new ROM, the phone gets wiped. If this is the case, am I best off to wipe the phone now. Use Unrevoked (I'm thinking it wouldn't get the error since there would be no apps installed). And then upgrade to the ICS ROM?

I know Google is my friend, but there is so much info and a lot of it is pretty old, since this is an older device. Any help on this process would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!

Just a heads up there isn't an pics from out that's fully functional. I'm using gummyworks pics now and there is still some stuff that needs to be worker on but I use it as daily for tuekost part. O could recommend CM7 and just put an ics theme on the theme Chooser app and adw theme as well... comes very close to ics and I can't ready think of any flaws cm7 has... and about your root issue when your phone is off hold power and volume down and let us know exqctly what you see so we can hep out

The guide you need is this one:

I'm not sure how having a Mac affects the drivers & software, however. I think you may need to find a PC to do this, unfortunately.

As far as ICS goes, we've just gotten to the point of hardware acceleration on most builds, and none of them have working 4G or Front-Facing Camera. Camera is typically buggy, and causes some force close errors, and you'll get some random reboots here and there. At this point ICS on the EVO isn't ready for prime time, imo.

with the info from the picture..unrevoked is not working because your hboot is too new. If installing a custom ROM is all you want, then use the above link and unlock the bootloader via htcdev.com (very easy). at that time, just like the guide says, you will have a "watermarked" bootloader..meaning sprint will know it has been touched, even though you may re-lock it. Not sure how your company would handle a broken phone if you needed work done. you will only need a custom recovery

once you have unlocked w/ htcdev, you can roll the bootloader back via the captainthrowback method and remove the watermark and achieve a full "s-off" status. once you do this, you can unroot and no one will know what happenend if you need a repair...long story short,

just follow the above link..cant go wrong!
