I'm curious: who else is still using the Eris as their phone?

While I always thought the Eris was a nice little phone, albeit a little slow, after 2 years it was finally time to upgrade it (got tired of hearing the g/f complain about it). Jumped on the BOGO offer VZW had for the Droid RAZR and couldn't be happier. Battery life kinda sucks, but it's about the same as the Eris was, but with a much much larger screen and far greater performance. Best part is she's finally happy with her phone now.

I'll still hang onto the Eris for a portable music device though as it will work perfectly well for that.

Every Verizon phone I have ever had drops every call in my house (if it rings at all). I deal with it and accept that I have to use my landline, but I don't want to pay a lot of money for a shiny new phone that I can't use at home. Wifi will of course work.

May have to bite the bullet and get one of those network extenders. Honestly, I feel Verizon should just give me one. I pay them a lot of money every month for a service I don't get.

Does the big V offer wifi telephony like t mobile on their galaxy s2? If that is an option on a newer phone for you maybe you wouldn't have to suffer at home.

Try the RAZR over the Nexus if you have signal problems. The reception I get on my RAZR is even better than my Droid 1 was. The Eris we had would only get 1-2 bars inside the house, our new phones get half to full bars pretty much anywhere now.

I thought I've heard a few folks say that they've gotten VZW to provide them with an extender, but I'm sure it helps if you can prove your case (i.e., known bad signal area) and/or how nice a customer service rep is (and probably your history with VZW, etc.). Can't hurt to ask .

Also, regarding signal strength, I've done signal strength comparisons with radio updates (before/after) that I've received for my Galaxy Nexus and previously with the Droid X (and everyone knows that Motorola is famous for the quality of their radios and the DX is no exception):

I've heard on the radio that people have gotten Verizon to supply the repeaters for free. It might take a few calls before you get the right rep. It doesn't hurt to mention that you are going to upgrade and might have to switch providers. Don't waste too much time with the first person you talk to. The call has to be escalated before you get a rep that can help you.

i am and i still use the Htc Vogue touch with hacked android rom . I am Dumping Verizion because of their outragious price 160 dollars a month for a moto razr no text or data and this stinking eris . GOT GREAT NEWS FOR THE RIPP OFFS .. i AN PORTING TO vIRGIN MOBILE just bought two Lg optimious v's for 20 bucks and Virgin mobile has unlimited text and data and 300 voice mins for 35 bucks period a month .. i will save 90 dollars and get ten times as much service . alsi i use GROOVE ip so all calls are FREE using wif or data and no mins will be used . plus you can get all this unlimited voice for 55 a month . great deal and the Lg is rootable and comes stock with 2.2 and wifi tether .And one more thing there is a Sense Rom with the cool animted weather home screen just like HTC's

Well, I'm finally on my last month with my Eris. I will be pretty sad to see it go. Well, at least not use it everyday. Its been a pretty good run. Then again, I still use my Nokia phone from 2 years ago, so I'll probably find a use for it.

Nice to know I'm still welcome around here. I sort of stopped coming regularly once the Eris forums started dying down. I still miss summer of '10. That was a really exciting time around here, with all the "this phone is terrible threads" alongside the new root discoveries. That was back when my new post counter would reach into the hundreds, rather than barely make it into the double digits. *ah nostalgia*

I'm still not sold on what phone to get. I've been heavily looking at the Galaxy Nexus, but I'm not limiting myself to any one phone. Why hurry? I still have a month to think about it. And anything will be an improvement performance wise over my Eris.

I vote Nexus. I can't imagine a better phone. Obviously, they will keep getting better but I'm super pleased with it at this point. Just my 2 cents.

Just how much of a pain is it to re-activate the Eris?

I have been using it as an mp3/robot chicken player at the gym, and have been having the urge to run it as my phone again.

I am VERY happy with my DInc2, as many have stated it is like it is a "perfected Eris", but I miss the little guy still.

I just want to use it for a couple weeks or so, then go back to my DInc2.

Is it as easy as it should be? Call vz and BAM, switched?

Just call and in 10 -15 minutes your done.

I might get my girlfriend the Rhyme when she is ready to upgrade, so we can use that as a test base and see what she thinks. Then I can set it up as a Wifi-only device. I would like to have my Eris at work to use as a tiny spreadsheet-based calculator, so if anyone knows how to get it going again without having to activate it as a phone, let me know.

Usually you can let it start the activation dial and then immediately disconnect it. It will try two more times, and then give up and proceed with a WiFi setup.

Wow, how about that, another reply on this old thread! I've been using my Eris continually since I got it in January 2010. I rather like the size, I find the DInc2 to be oversized (never mind that outrageous Thunderbolt). I also rather like the Sense interface. The only new phone that really made me look twice is the Rhyme. Laugh if you want, it's a nice size, and the included dock thingy is kinda cool. Aside from my current problems with the Market (see other thread in the Root forum), I'm still perfectly happy with my Eris and with xtrSense. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And my Eris does all the things I want it to. I find myself wondering just how long one of these phones will last, if put to the test. A decade? We'll see...

I activated my Eris a while ago to email myself something off the sdcard. It was surprisingly snappy. I do prefer the bigger screen and memory on the Incredible 2.

I am still using a rooted Eris and it has been a good phone BUT, I miss a keyboard and I want to be able to connect to an external GPS so I have ordered a Motorola Droid 2 Global (about 90.00). I am not looking forward to the increased size and weight.

Remember constantly warning people not to flash the 2.1 leak or else it made their phones "un-rootable"? And discovering in horror that Verizon flashed the "un-rootable" bootloaders to their refurbs? Good times. Very experimental times. Going to sort of miss the root drama, since its a non-issue on a Nexus.
