Alright Guys,

Now i'm another iPhone convert so please be patient with me.
I thought that it might be useful to start a specific One X thread for the many iPhone converts to list any questions they may have.

I got the new phone on friday and am really pleased that I made the decision so far, however i will add that i think its going to take some getting used to. With that I would like to thank all the members, posters and modds here who have helped me on my new Android journey!

My first query that i cannot seem to find the answer to is when I receive a text message from anyone in my phone book, the home screen only displays the number of the sender and not the name. Is this a normal thing or can it be changed?

I have just come over from having an iPhone 4S, my 3rd iPhone so this is a great idea.
I've never owned an Android phone so it's all very new to me too and I have a lot to learn.
I have solved my wi-fi issues and apart from that, have no other issues but I'm sure I will have plenty of queries in the near furture.

As for your query, names are showing up in my messages so I'm sure it's possible to have them show up. Whether you have to c'hange something in your setting's I dont know but hopefully someone else will know for sure. Are you missing not having an iphone at all??

Not a bad idea for a thread actually, I've seen a few iPhone converts joining up over the past couple of days.

Are the numbers you refer too definitely in your phone book? Were they transfered over to your new phone from your previous SIM?

If you head to the People app, are the numbers there?

Thanks gents, not missing my iPhone at all to be honest. Other than I knew exactly what I was doing with it, but all will come good i'm sure. Just a matter of time.

Checked the numbers again, they are all definitely in the phone and are in the People App. I did transfer them via bluetooth from my iPhone originally. When they originally pop up on the home screen they are displayed with the +44 number, even if they are saved normally.

Not sure why they would come up with that. I just imported all my contacts from iTunes to google contacts and imported them to the phone from there. They all came through fine without +44 in front of them.

I have some that have +44 in front, and from experience it is a pain to change and often changes back. Though never had an issue calling them on my old HTC.
It likes to link these things to facebook, so if you log into that it will sync a lot of people and give you the little pics as well as names.

Is there a chance that you have the number(s) saved twice? Going back to old Nokia days, if a number was saved twice then the system would not know what name to display so didn't display any.

I upgraded to the GSII the week that it came out here in the states and the transition did not go so well. The main issue was with sending and receiving text messages between the GSII and people with iPhones. Also I just wasn't having a good experience with the phone itself. Apps seemed to be crashing all the time and I never got comfortable with it. I ended up returning the phone and going back to my iPhone within the return period. Do you think I will have a better experience if I try the One X? It looks great and I've heard nothing but great things about it. But then again that's how the Galaxy S II was.

Both of your issues have explanations, and one of which is solvable.

1. The texting issue stems from iMessages refusing to believe that your new phone is not an iPhone, and so requires a removal of the sim from the android/WP7/BB/etc. device, replacement into the original iphone on your account, then sign out of imessage, then turn off the iphone and put the sim back into the new device, and lastly your friends/family with iPhones need to delete the imessage threads with you prior to the change, and send future messages as SMS not as imessages. (escaping the walled garden gets tougher all the time) This works for most people, so hoepfully it would help you as well.
2. The apps crashing issue is a pain, but is not limited to just Android- iOS apps crash all the time as well, they just do not always tell the user with a handy-dandy popup. A lot of the little stutters/momentary freezes/ or "false launches" where an app opens then kicks you right back to the home screen are actually iOS running into the same fault/memory exceptions, iOS just moves on whereas Android notifies the user that something has happened...

So to answer your question, I think you would find the HTC One X to be a far superior device to both the 3GS and the SGS II, but you will still see/have the same complaints you ran into before.

Of course (we're all here to help- yourself included)! Samsung struggles with that sometimes, I skipped the GS II line but the original Galaxy S was like that quite often. I am seeing some scattered reports of sense crashing on the One X, but no "unexpected reboots" (battery pulls) (which we wouldn't be able to do anyways ). [For general info, apparently to force a shutdown/reboot on the One X one must simply hold down the power button for ten seconds.] At any rate, those flubs USUALLY (except the GS I ) get sorted out in the first couple of OTA's; but they are aggravating, I'll give you that...

Little did I know that I was not receiving texts from my iPhone-wielding sister, because her phone had linked my ML iMessage account with her contact profile for me, and thereby my number as well... It was a pain but ultimately I had to delete the iMessage stuff I had on my iMac, she had to delete her threads of texts with me, and she had to delete my contact profile from her phone, macbook, and icloud, before it would work properly. And there was/is a slew of people having this issue in a couple of other forums, so without thinking too much about it I assumed that was your issue as well.
I remember there was an issue with mms and emoticons from iphones to android devices, were your issues with mms or emoticon-toting texts?

Thanks for the info. I'll make sure and take all the right steps when I upgrade! It happened with regular messages but it happened A LOT with mms. I could rarely send or receive pictures. When I did receive pictures they were in a video format for some reason. This only happened when receiving pictures from iPhones.

Sure! I have this MMS issue with my sister as well. I haven't found a good fix for it yet, but I know it happens when she tries to send more than one image in the same message, or tries to send audio with the picture

anyways.
here are my converting experiences so far to share, hopefully more to add as we go on and may help others.

(free) itune sync
so far i havent come across any good free solution that will let you sync with itune to an adequate level.. >.<. maybe some of the paid app can do but that'll be later.

MUSIC sync
the generic music sync (HTC SYNC) is actually ok as it let you sync your itune playlist. music quality is fine and the interface is pleasant.
Of course, if you cares about your music then you'll feel like some elements are missing. preliminary things for me that were important such as matching song & album art & rating (stars) sync are either mismatching or not available.

initially i resorted to other (free) music players and apps and the closest thing was Double Twist, but its still buggy and requires installation of pc program itself.

So in the end i went back to generic music player, but instead of using sync i just drag my music files to my storage/music folder manually as HTC sync wont make a different in this case for my needs.

at the moment i m still researching solutions for this and will update again later.

fyi, the following are the list of the apps that i tried, so you may think twice before you install them:

-doubletwist
-winamp
-mymusicon
-tuneagent/notpod
-astro
-cube
-mixzing (good for video stuff tho)
-poweramp (best alternative music player (not itune sync stuff tho), but needs pay version for more functions)

have you tried downloading google music, the icon is a pair of headphones, and then on your computer downloading google media manager? they can upload most of your itunes library into the clouds and then sync it to the device, and it works great except some of the d r m locked content. Especially early on the drm content was encoded using apple copyrighted code, and so google or no other programs touch that. The only solution that I know of that works 100 percent of the time is to burn the music that does not show up in google media manager onto a cd and then reading that cd back into your library, then upload it.

Ah! sorry about that, in the app it doesn't show poster's location like in a browser... and I forgot it is US only...

Years ago some were having success migrating from iTunes with an PC application called "Media Monkey," if it is still around it might be worth a look. I used to use Double Twist, but it was never good at the DRM content stuff...

You can actually get Music working in the UK too so you can upload your own tracks but, you can't buy any from the Play Store. I've been using it a few months now and it is brilliant, I can access all of my music from anywhere, as long as there is a signal of course! but, I just make my most popular tracks available offline so I've always got something to listen too even in no signal areas.

I know a lot of people put Google music down a lot for some reason but, from everything I've used in the past this has got to be the biggest step up so far.
I despise iTunes as it just doesn't work that well (never has for me anyway) but the tracks I did download from iTunes a long time ago, I just de-drm'd them so the tracks could be used anywhere. This is one good thing about google music, the tracks you buy off the store (when it's available!) are DRM free.
