My old NES has been exhibiting odd behavior... sometimes when i turn it on the power button and the screen blink on and off. I think one of Dr. Mario's viruses might have gotten into the hard drive.

Also, Avast for Android is what I use on my phone. Its consistently been rated one of the top AV apps for android, plus i use the computer version on all my comps, and i've never gotten anything serious.

Plus, it's got the anti-theft system stuff on it, where if someone steals your phone, you can remotely lock and wipe it.

See for yourself. I'm running Dr.Web Light right now.

The Best (and Worst) Antivirus Apps for Android

No need for me to buy the paid version for that . I've got SeekDroid.

Avast is above Dr. Web on the article you listed ;)

And Avast for android is free, 100%, including the anti-theft stuff. They also offer a free computer antivirus that's really good, and updated several times a day. I used it for a few years, but then bought the full version since it was on sale.

The only slowdown i've seen with Avast for Android is when installing a new app, it scans it before it lets you open it, so like an extra five second delay.

Yes, I know it's above Dr. Web but after running them both, I prefer Dr.Web over Avast. There isn't much difference in the specs and DR. Webs interface is easier to use. Also, I scan 99.% of the stuff I install on my phone with Kaspersky first, then I put it on my sd card.

EDIT: after trying many of the theft location apps out there, SeekDroid is by far the best at pinpointing your location. Most of the others are off by a pretty good ways. SeekDroid shows me in my living room.;)

I've always read and seen articles saying that Avast is one if not the best antivirus/malware protection you can get on the Android. Has one of the highest detection ratios too.

It does . One thing that I don't like about the app is that it lists every apps permissions and will also give false positives if an app has to much access . Take for instance the app screenshot which everyone has been using for a while. It told me that it was a virus and I believed it until Kouma pointed out that it was Avast and not the screenshot app. I did some more research and that was the case. Avast was giving me a false positive. I like to run an anti-virus but when I compared Avast to Dr.Web, I chose Dr.Web. Both are good apps though.

Like I mentioned earlier, I scan 99% of my apps with Kaspersky before they even hit my phone. I'll probably end up buying Kaspersky for Android once it's been tested a while longer and the bugs are worked out of it. Til then, I'll scan them on my computer before I install them and use Dr.Web as my old trust backup.:D

As long as you are diligent with what you install, I find that antivirus are a waste of precious resources.

I'm speaking on android phones in particular.

I'd agree with you there, with the few apps i use i doubt i'd ever get any unfriendly stuff on it. But at least with mine, theres not too much of a performance hit with AV. Plus if i lose my phone, i can text it to make it alarm

After running Dr. Web for a couple of days, I can't even tell that the app is installed and running except for the icon in the status bar. It did not affect my phones performance one bit which is awesome. Wouldn't it be nice if all anti-virus apps were like that? :D

Until the day your phone spontaneously bursts in to flames and sets your hands on fire. :D

try out cerberus, you get a free 7 day trial. its all web managed, they offer flashable zips (because if you didnt flash it then its install in /data... where someone can just wipe it ;) )

remote locking, alarms. displaying a custom message, recording 300 seconds of audio discreetly, take photos/videos from yoru camera (to get an idea on where it is). call logs/sms logs, remotly wiping it and the list goes on... its 1.99 for lifetime membership and you can add 5 devices on it ;)

www.cerberusapp.com i dont own an android device that isnt protected

P.S for anyone wanting to test it out id suggest the hidden flable zip one :) it make it so should you hide the app via the web, there is no way of telling its running on a phone :)

If I've helped you out buy me a beer :)

That advice is worth a beer to me. Let me know next time you're in town.

EDIT: Whoa nelly, this application has made my Prevail VERY unstable. I attempted to flash the disguised version directly from cerberus' website. Said it installed correctly from recovery but nothing like a 'System Framework' every showed up under any of the Applications tabs. Also, nothing to uninstall. Pinged their customer support who instructed me to 'uninstall' and then download and install an APK, but by then I had already installed directly from Google Play market. When I say VERY unstable, I mean complete rebooting every few minutes of use or soft reboot every few minutes of use or backing out of the middle of a Gmail or message composition or anything, really. Now I'm not saying this is 100% the result of cerberus, but my last known stable point was certainly just before attempting to install it. Was able to get cerberus to work via their website on my phone to send myself a msg and get system info and battery % remaining but connection status was spotty (to be fair I stayed in one location so that may be due to poor reception here) and I never once saw it properly show up on a map - I think there may be issues with our GPS on CTMod 3.4? Maybe I'm dreaming that, I can't recall. Bottom line: maybe I had a bad download of the zip and/or cerberus conflicts with other apks I have installed and/or doesn't play well with this particular Mod, but I'm going to wipe everything and give it another go later. In its current form my phone is like a schizophrenic zombie.

HOT DAMN DOUBLE EDIT: Scratch remarks about GPS - working fine all of a sudden via console at cerberusapp.com. Which implies no issues with GPS in CTMod 3.4, I think.

FINAL EDIT: Dev of the app is very responsive and helpful. Walked me through manual install via terminal emulator since I couldn't get the disguised zip to install properly (even though I got a confirmation message of successful install in recovery mode). I recommend this app and think we need more devs like this guy.

Just an FYI android virus' have gone from only 4000 to over 12,000 since Nov. 2011. Android is not virus proof and the only thing that makes linux or something linux based less likely to get a virus is lack of interest from crackers due to those OS's not being mainstream and popular. I personally use Avast after reading the article that lifehacker was based on... and have used it for a little over a week.. I am very happy with the results.
