It is working reasonably well for me now. There seem to be two primary issues (for me at least) with the JB2 firmware:

1. Battery life - by installing setCPU (320max/245min for sleep/stand by) and limiting data to 2G unless I am actively utilizing the connection, battery seems to have improved in JB2. Ex: after 9 hours normal daily use today I am at 62% battery (according to battery widget). I cannot compare my battery life with other users (3 days!?!), but it does seem comparable to IK4 to me. With IK4, I did not need setCPU and I had 3G connected full-time. I believe these settings are providing a balance to the drain caused by the phone not sleeping.

2. No sleep - this issue appears to be directly related to syncing. Yesterday I kept autosync and background data off and observed normal Running:Screen-on ratios. Today, with autosync and background data on, I have Running (79%) and Screen-on (15%).

I got the sleep thing under control in 1.6. I uninstalled Taskiller, and unchecked background data, gps location, wireless location etc. Wifi, gps, gprs, syncing are also all off, I only switch them on if I need them. Battery is 76% now, with 30 hours on. (Few calls, 10 texts, some gps, wifi, gprs and a few games.
So the sleep issue is manageable and the battery is ok now.

No offense meant, but you could as well tie your phone to the foot of a pigeon
and communicate that way ;)

In my opinion, if you turn off background data, you don't really need a smartphone,
a dumbphone would suffice.

Anyway, I'm on 1.6, the no-sleep issue is driving me nuts and I'm about 30 minutes
away from flashing back IK5 or IL3.

So after two weaks, I think it would be good to restart a poll and to make sure if there is still some people that use JB2 for more than 10 days without sleeping issue. What do you think?

Those guys were using 1.6 ten days ago, any news regarding the issues? :)

I found a neat bug bug where the home screen goes into landscape mode. Its impossible to get out of, and the touchscreen coordinates don't rotate with it, so its not very useful. There are so many bugs in the 1.6 image and the battery life sucks, but I'm too lazy to reflash back to a 1.5 image.

Still using it here. Some days it sleeps just fine, and some days it never sleeps. Even without sleeping, with data limited to 2G the battery lasts all day (>14 hours) with normal use. When it sleeps, the battery life seems vastly improved over previous firmwares (I went 4 hours from 100% to 94%, including listening to music for an hour, web browsing briefly, and gtalk messaging).

What works and/or fixed with my 1.6 install
- Dialpad locking during call FIXED AWESOME!
- Google Maps 4.0 - Awesome, traffic works great and never any memory errors that I got with 1.5
- Battery life seems a lot better but could be because I now disable background data unless needed. My TouchDown email client uses active sync so I still get my mail immediately.
- Generally menus are faster and more responsive.
- Built in browser is faster. I have not put Dolphin back on as I found it was getting cumbersome.
- 1.6 applications now available to me

What does not work with my 1.6 install
- Low Volume on media playback. This sucks as a heavy commuter I need my playback to be perfect.
- Google Voice Search only works one in ten attempts. Again this sucks as I really like this app.

I've noticed lower battery life with 1.6, but not in any sort of tangible way. Ie, I've run out in the middle of the day, but I've also been hitting the GPS a lot harder than I used to so it could just be me. I've put no effort at all into narrowing this down yet, other than looking at *#*#info#*#* and not noticing any glaring problems.

Other negatives, I've still got the issue I mentioned in another thread where a paid app (Record It) has disappeared; also, I was using the free version of aHome to get extra home screens, and the lite version doesn't exist for 1.6. This is a bit of a bind because that's the only functionality I wanted or was using, so the free version was ideal for me, but in honesty I never really made use of the extra screens once I'd got bored of the pageful of widgets I had originally so it's not the end of the world.

Most other issues people have reported I've not seen personally, sleep issues, language bugs and the like. I don't use Google Voice, and haven't yet tried media playback, so can't comment on these.

Positives, the lock button being fixed is a huge plus for me, that was driving me round the bend. The phone seems more responsive, on all the 1.5s I was getting occasional pregnant pauses (especially right after unlocking. Bluetooth address book works! Again this is massive for me; previously syncing with my car kit gave me a big long list of numbers and no names, now it lists correct names along with /H, /M for home, mobile etc numbers. Awesomesauce.

I'm sticking with 1.6, anyway. I think the pros outweigh the cons for me, plus I've got this overriding feeling that newer is "better" even if it isn't. TBH, the biggest bug-bear for me is the missing Record It, which no-one else seems to be bothered about / affected by.

As i allready stated in the other Thread. The Sleep Bug is the most annyoing thing. Apart from that, the Rom is working pretty good. It's stable. I have about 100 App's installed (yes, 100) and testing a lot (since this phone is my dev/test phone anyways)

- Battery is better than any 1.5 roms before
- New Market is nice but it lags like hell if you try to install more than one app. Even with just one process its pain in the ass.
New Google Maps is nice, but street view is way to slow on the galaxy.
Dunno, i have 2 Android device to compare against and the galaxy is the worst while using the new maps.

Well, to make it short: the JB2 Rom is a good start in the right direction. I seriously hope that Samsung is working on the performance issues with the market and more important the removal of the sleeping bug.

That said: I like it.

I just went back to IK5. No-sleep issue was driving me crazy and battery couldn't last 'till the end of the day! With IK5 it works for 2 days and a half.

I tried to figure out the problem by using adb logcat when the phone was supposed to be sleeping and I got a lot of:

Code:
E/NotificationService( 97): enqueueNotification :: useDefaultSound = false, notification.sound = null

... again, again and again. Every 5 seconds it does that thing. I tried reinstalling, wiping with and without recovery, wiping before and after the flash, and in any other way possibile. It just seems to be happening randomly. If you're lucky, you don't get it. If you're not lucky, you get the sleeping issue.
It seems to be an useless notification problem which attempts to play a sound but is not able to.

Im using 1.6 though i have battery problems. No way i make it last for 48 hours, its usualy dead in about 35+ h. Using it for business though, about 30+ mails/day and 20 min more or less of conversation in a days period.

Like i said before, im dissapointed in Android, not so much Samsung, as the system is beyond crap if u ask me. Very very limited functions, lost of stuff not working, force crashes everywhere. As it is, WinMo 6.5 EATS this operating system any day.
I won't be buying an Android device ever again. Google failed with Android and the same is gonna happen with their Chrome OS.

I would go so far to say that even 2.x Android is still in BETA phase and nowhere near a normal, functioning and reliable software.

I did some experiments with IK5 in the last hours. I'm pretty sure that NotificationSound issue is related to "Battery Status"! I got the same problem in logcat and, worried, I started thinking of having damaged the hardware. Instead I uninstalled "Battery Status" and the error sopped appearing from the log! Now I get only some dalvikvm once in a while and the phone sleeps!

Is there any chance that who's getting the sleeping issue in 1.6 is also using "Battery Status"? Could somebody try deleting it and testing the battery duration?

I've been using 1.6 for nearly 10 days now. The following is what I've found:
1. I've had to shut down most "background" functions to maintain use through a normal day.
2. Marketplace is annoying as whilst there's a download, everything slows to a stop.
3. Alarm and contact ringtones change by themselves as well as one ringtone being deleted 3 times off the sdcard by itself. weird! This REALLY bugs me as i've been using ringtones for different people for years now.
4. Wifi take a long time to connect. Veryy annoying.
5. Both Wifi and 3G reception are very weak. Much weaker than equivalent HTC's (WinMo6.1) and Sony Ericssons (Symbian).
6. Android use of only .ogg files for notifications and alerts is annoying. Most other o/s allow for mp3 and wav.
7. Have only tried GPS with IGO, and this is very slow going. I'll see if I can get a copy of copilot as I was using it successfully on HTC and can gauge response times in comparison.
8. On a positive, the syncing of gmail, calender and contacts is painless and quick. Given Androids Google origins, that should be the case.

Btw, GDE is great but conflicts with some std 1.6 as well as 3rd party applications, so BEWARE.

I recommend AdvancedLauncher if you just want extra home screens... AdvancedLauncher - Donut - Cyrket
