Help GT-i9100P wont update to ICS

I decided to make an account here as my provider (o2) has proved unsuccessful in helping solve this issue, hope you guys are smarter than they are!

For some reason when running Kies software my phone will not update to ICS, it claims the latest firmware is already installed (I current have Gingerbread 2.3.5). Ive been on live chat with o2, I told them my CSC number and they told me my phone can update to ICS so I dont know why it wont do it. Ive got the latest Kies software and have tried it on both my PC and Laptop but it just wont work.

Has this happened to anyone else and is there a solution?

Maybe it's because ICS hasn't been launched for the, "P", variant yet. Only the GT-i9100 version.

Hi Serbusfish

I also have purchased a i9100P Galaxy s2 from o2 in the UK, it has arrive today and KIES is saying it has the latest updates, however, like yourself it is still stuck on 2.3.5 and KIES does NOT offer any upgrade to ICS at the moment (Yes my CSC code is O2U, so according to the list, it should be available)

Have you had any joy solving this yet? Could anyone shed further light on this problem please?

Hi all having spoken at length with both Samsung and O2 this week I can confirm that the I9100P will NOT update yet as Samsung have not released the update yet although no date can be given all networks seem to be getting them around April - June so I don't think it'll be long. Basically if you have a GT-I9100P you'll have NFC feature which is the problem as Samsung reported to me and this is the reason why the update is not yet available, but look on the bright side.... you'll have working NFC whilst all the other I9100 users won't, so just hang in there for a month or two.

BY THE WAY DO NOT FLASH YOUR PHONE as suggested above otherwise you'll void your warranty instantly and you could end up with a brick if it goes t*ts up whilst flashing, so be warned !

I agree with andybristol," you'll void your warranty instantly and you could end up with a brick if it goes t*ts up whilst flashing, so be warned ! ". But if you need to take it back to Samsung; you just reflash your original firmware, reset the binary counter back to zero using a USB jig, then your back to square one, Warranty restored.
But if we all did as the post states above, there would be hardly any android development, we would be stuck with network providers bloatware and software upgrades would be a thing of the past.
So while your sat there, in your smart car, stuck in a traffic jam, the rest of us are in the overtaking lane driving a Ferrari.

I will have to disagree with that. Even if you put it back to stock and reset the flash counter you have still flashed something unofficial so your warranty is still void. Doing so is technically a fraudulent warranty claim.

Technically if you flash the I9100XWLP3 ICS firmware from Samfirmware via Odin, you will not be voiding your warranty. It is official firmware albeit for the I9100.
No binary counter increase and no yellow triangle. Download the original firmware for the I9100P I9100PVBKL2 from the same place to revert back to latest gingerbread when needed.

Edit..Sorry pressed return before i was finished..

Yes you will. Odin is not a supported user update method.

It is official firmware albeit for the I9100.

Official only for the locale/handsets it is intended for. Installing (for example) the Nordic v.4.0.3 update on a UK handset will not be viewed by Samsung as official as they never made it available to UK users. The same applies to firmware for a different sub-variant; i9100 firmware cannot be installed on a i9100P under normal circumstances.

Im not an expert on this i only know i got it off a european samsung site ill unzip it and if u tell me what to look for ill try for you but i think it would be easier if i just gave yous the file it is 100 per cent genuine ill stake my membership on it.Just unrared it and u get a GT-9100P_EUR-XX_platform.tar.
And this GT-I9100P-EUR-XX-kernal.tar these are both compressed too.
Like i said i was trying to get to know how to root the i9100p and i came across this site in europe for samsung i could kick myself for not bookmarking it believe me this is the real deal im sure you know some one who would know what to do with this file, let me know.

Can you open the TAR and tell me what files are inside that? My concern is that flashing this on a carrier-branded i9100P will void the user's warranty and may also cause software problems.

i could kick myself for not bookmarking it

It should still be stored in your browser's history.

Thanks for the assist. Please understand that our caution is purely due to wanting to ensure that people don't give themselves unnecessary headaches.
