Help Hidden Folders showing up in Gallery

I have a folder named .stuff, the "." at the beginning should hide this folder from the applications and it does for the most part, but if I get a pic and move it to that folder the Gallery App still picks up the pic.

Anyone have this problem?

I know its been discussed but everyone just says putting the "." in front of the folder will make it un-viewable from Gallery and it doesn't.

Use a file explorer and create a file in that folder named ".nomedia"

Once that file is in a folder then any contents in that folder will not ever show up in your gallery.

The "." in front is what makes it hidden, the "nomedia" part doesn't matter.

It should ignore any folder with a "." at the beginning. Like .stuff would be hidden.

Anyway I solved it by downloading "OI File Manager" and going to the folder and choosing "Exclude from media scan" then rebooting my phone.

Still not sure why the "." hidden folder trick didn't work.

I never knew that a "." at the front of a folder name was supposed to hide it from the gallery. I just know that if a folder contains a file named ".nomedia" it will not be scanned.

Ahhh!!! I see what you're saying, a file called .nomedia in the folder makes it not scan that folder!

I thought you meant a folder call .nomedia

See folders with a "." in front of them should be automatically hidden. That works on some of my folders but not others. I created the file in that folder call .nomedia and it worked.

Thanks for the help.

Problem here is the folders in question are music folders, so I need to scan for music, but not for pictures. Not fond of the Galaxy S2 gallery feature so far ... scans the whole SD card, including anywhere there's an image of any kind. Cumbersome.

I have no idea how to not scan for music as I don't store any music on my phone (Slacker radio and occasionally Google music is all i use). The ".nomedia" file only works for pictures that I know of.
