how do I stop being obsessed with my phone battery?

I'm always guilty everytime I turn on my phone whether it's checking time, getting a text or a phone call. I just want to get the most out my battery. This has become such an obsession that I end up turning off my wifi and 3g manually when it's not needed. Today I got through 28 hours of battery life but then I noticed the only reason my phone lasted that long is because I'm guilty to turn it on. How do I stop this obsession and just use it regulary without worrying about battery? I don't know why I'm obsessed when I'm always at home having a charger next to me at all time.

If you find out how? Please clue me in! The biggest issue I have with today's smartphone's is battery life. The manufacturers seem to use up any power advancement with bigger-brighter-more powerful. We end up with the same battery life that they consider (but I do not) acceptable. The Razrmaxx points in the right direction, I hope all the other manufacturers are taking notice.

Power consumption control is good, however the flip side of switching off options on a feature smartphone is you end up with something that is anything but. Sure it lasts longer but it's rather useless and a bit boring. If you get the day use out of it then don't worry or carry a spare battery if you really can't get past the need to squeeze every last drop out of things.
Sadly battery tech seems to lag behind each modular feature upgrade thus the cycle of not quite enough juice continues. Eventually something has to give.

I do that to some extent but it doesn't bother me, yet. :D For me, it's really a carry over from going several days in a row without charging flip phones. Heck, even when I put Opera Mini on my Boost Sanyo Mirro and started putzing around all the time on the internet I still got a solid 2-3 days.

I keep my data, wifi, and GPS off via Quick Settings unless I'm actually using them. I've also started screwing around with just putting my V in airplane mode with the power button. If I'm out running, at work/drill and purposely not using my phone,... why would they need to be on? It's also faster that way than turning the phone on and off. :D

I once went through 4 days on my OV with 3x% left. I wasn't googling and browsing very often but I was texting frequently and checking my email occasionally (another thing that can be come a bad habit!).

Charge it whenever you have the ability to do so. I carry a back pack to work so I always have my charger with me (also my spare battery) and use it when needed. I used to worry about battery life, I dimmed the screen etc... but I found that I wasn't enjoying my phone at all. Now I really don't care. I have found over time that when I am using my phone a lot I am usually by an outlet because I am sitting down, when I use my phone less it's usually because I am moving around doing stuff and the phone last a lot longer.

Tips:
-Charge it whenever you can, 15 minute charge is better then nothing.
-Leave 3G on
-Leave the screen on auto brightness. I once kept my N1's screen so dim that one day I was playing around with the phone and turned up the brightness, I was shocked to see how much I was missing.
-poll emails and facebook less.
-You paid good money for this device, use it! A smartphone is useless if you are afraid to turn it on.

I have been the same since I got my One X. I could get 2 full days out of my iPhone with 20-30% to spare and I am finding it hard to get used to the fact that this phones battery wont last that long.

You can't compare a device with a large HD display running over LTE to a device with a tiny screen with less resolution only running on 3G. Its night and day.

i bought a razr maxx... i can easily not care about usage because i have yet to kill the battery in 1 day

For some reason I feel like I could easily find a way to destroy a battery in a RAZR Maxx in easily less than a day. Granted it would last wayyy longer than my Gnexus, but I've killed the 3800 mAh (since its aftermarket it might be more around 3000 mAh) battery on my Eris fairly easily. Just needs lots of 3G, Bluetooth, and no screen timeout lovin'.

actually, best way is to use good inner 'core', like 'cm'
second is about the ROM, there are lots choices.

personally i am using MIUI ROM with CM9 inner core

this is the best way without changing your use habit

if you dont mind the speed and fluency or you never play CPU high required games
you should consider lower your CPU frequency by using some apps or ROM with built-in changing frequency function

- spare battery when I had my Nexus One
- charger at home, work and in the car!
- 2G when I am out and about and I don't need fast internet and I just want my push notifications.
- GPS Off unless I need it.
- WIFI on when I am at home or at a friend's place. Off otherwise.
Lol, way too much hassle for me. This is one thing I appreciate about the iPhone 4 (iPhone 4S, not so much). It has decent battery life without me having to micromanage everything. Unfortunately, my obsession with battery life has turned out to be fairly expensive. I've already bought several phones trying to see if any would give me battery life as good as the iPhone's at stock settings. So far, the Xperia Ray seems to be working pretty well on that front (probably due to being able to dim the screen really low). :p

Wish something like the RAZR Maxx would be released on AT&T.

What do you mean by "inner core?"

CM9 is a ROM (a great one!)

inner core and ROM are not the same thing...
forgive my poor english if i type any wrong words...

i dont know what that's called in English
inner core is like the bottom and drive sections, can be upgrade separately
it's the core system file

CM is a ROM, but it has its own inner core, you can change your ROM without change its inner core................

maybe i could say, regardless of hardware, the performance of your phone depends on the inner core, including the level of saving battery

haha :p Sad to say...but I'm use to my battery obsession.

I can't wait till they come out with a solar charger.

There's already a few out there on the market. An example is the Samsung Replenish
As with a handful of other energy-conscious handsets, the Replenish has an optional back cover that uses solar panels to help charge the phone. That variation is a separate purchase that will cost you an additional $29.99.
